This video is a documentation of my final visit to the Carson's store located at the Spring Hill Mall in Carpentersville, IL in its final hours.

2021-11-13: Joliet to Carpentersville via I-55, I-294, I-90

In this trip, I will be driving from Joliet to Carpentersville, IL, which is where Dundee-Crown High School is located. This was one of the longer trips I've ever done, and needless to say, we took the highways to get there. We will utilize significant stretches of I-55, I-294 (against better judgement), and I-90. Yes, I know that I-355 to I-290 would have been faster, but (A) I felt adventurous that day, and (B) I thought I-355 was jammed simply because the ramp was backed up. That was certainly not the case, and one would think that I should know by now that the ramp from I-55 to I-355 is always a choke point and is not necessarily an indicator of the actual highway's condition. But, I digress. Enjoy this hour-long highway trip through the busy Chicago suburbs! This is also my first video showing the stretch of I-294 north of I-88, and any portion of I-90.
Fun fact: in Illinois, one way you can tell that you're on a toll road operated by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (A.K.A. the Illinois Tollway) is that their roads have longer than usual white lines separating each lane. These are very similar to, if not the same as, the lines on the Indiana Toll Road and New Jersey Turnpike. This does NOT apply to the Chicago Skyway, as it is owned by the City of Chicago and leased by the Skyway Concessions Company, and NOT operated by the Illinois Tollway. In this video, you can see the difference between the lines after transitioning from I-55, an IDOT-maintained freeway, to I-294, an ISTHA-operated toll road, and again from I-90 to local roads.

6:35 - Exit to Weber Road - Emergency re-fueling stop (this is why you should ALWAYS DOUBLE-CHECK that you have enough fuel BEFORE leaving!) - work is currently being done to reconfigure this interchange to a diverging diamond to improve safety and efficiency, and ease congestion in the area
7:26 - Merge onto I-55 North
13:23 - Approaching I-355 interchange
14:19 - Cross under I-355 (Veterans Memorial Tollway)
22:20 - Exit to I-294 North
23:22 - Joliet Road Toll Plaza (I-55 to I-294 N)
24:32 - Merge onto I-294 North (Tri-State Tollway); cross under Hinsdale Oasis
30:38 - Cermak Road Toll Plaza (express lanes)
32:00 - Cross over I-88 (Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway)
32:37 - Cross over I-290 (Dwight D. Eisenhower Expressway)
37:17 - Grand Avenue Curve - Chicago O'Hare International Airport is located directly to the left of the tollway but cannot be seen easily due to construction barriers, buildings, and geographical land features
39:42 - Begin Bensenville Bridge
40:07 - End Bensenville Bridge
40:17 - O'Hare Oasis (fuel only - building over highway was removed to allow for highway expansion)
42:48 - Exit I-294 (Tri-State Tollway)
43:00 - Keep left for I-90 (ramp to I-190/Kennedy Expressway Extension for O'Hare Airport terminals splits to the right)
43:25 - Keep left for I-90 West/Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (ramp to I-90 East/Kennedy Expressway for Chicago splits to the right)
44:08 - Merge with I-90 West (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway)
44:35 - Devon Avenue Toll Plaza (express lanes); begin active traffic management zone (see overhead gantries spaced at 0.5-mile intervals)

46:10 - O'Hare Airport radar tower is visible on left

Our journey takes us to our favorite place to pick pumpkins, Goebbert's Pumpkin Patch (Pingree Grove, IL). We also like the one in South Barrington, which is very similar. We love to be able to see the pig races, magician, animals, horse rides, camel rides, and best of all, being able to pick a pumpkin from it's vine. Very affordable and approved by the family. The pumpkin eating dinosaur was one of the highlights.

The Belvidere Mansion
The Belvidere Mansion located in Claremore, Oklahoma. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Construction of this beautiful three story mansion started in 1902 by John M. Bayless. Bayless died however six months before the building was completed in 1907. Some believe the home is haunted by the spirits of the family.
