Today we explored and learned the history of Carlow and Ireland. What an incredible sight. The mountains looming in the background. Old cobblestone and trees riddle the streets and gardens. What a time to be alive! Woke up a bit late today, tied from staying up over 30+ hours... We ate cookies and drank coffee with tea. That woke me up for sure. Met all of the professors who work at Carlow College during breakfast. I made sure to shake each of their hands for being our hosts for the next 4 weeks. Oh, and the History professor is hilarious. He shares the history of Ireland in very captivating ways.Later, the walk was approximately 2 miles (says our Irish professor/tour guide). What you see is all filmed by me and trust me, I was grinning from ear to ear every moment! Enjoy. Much love. - Mason

Yesterday, Carlow County Museum celebrated its tenth year here in the former Presentation Convent. The Museum was officially opened on April 11th, 2012, by Phil Hogan, TD, then Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government. Since then, the Museum has welcomed nearly 170,000 visitors.
The Museum is operated by Carlow County Council in partnership with the Carlow Historical & Archaeological Society (CHAS). It is twenty years since the County Council took over the operations of the museum and professionalised the staffing and operations.
In total the Museum is forty-eight years old, opened in December 1973 by CHAS, also on College Street before moving to the Town Hall Theatre in 1979.
The Museum was designated in 2003 by the National Museum of Ireland to collect and display archaeological objects from the county. In 2020 the Museum was awarded Interim Accreditation by the Heritage Council under the Museums Standards Programme for Ireland (MSPI).

Who Lives In Huntington Castle?
Huntington Castle, also known as Clonegal Castle, is a castle in Clonegal, County Carlow , Ireland, built in 1625.
The structure was originally a plantation castle, used for defensive purposes during the plantation of the area in the early 17th century. The original tower house, which served as a garrison, was built in the 15th century as a stronghold for the Caviness family, an old Irish clan. Later Baron Esmonde. Due to the strategic importance of the village of Clonegal during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland because of its location on the road between Dublin and Wexford, the castle was captured by Oliver Cromwell as he marched on Kilkenny in 1650.
It is now a private house open to the public for guided tours throughout June, July, August and September. It was the setting for Stanley Kubrick's film Barry Lyndon. Its basement has been the base of a religion, the Fellowship of Isis, since 1976, The castle hosted the Solas Festival in August 2008. co-founded by Olivia Robertson, her brother Lawrence Durdin-Robertson and his wife Pamela. The castle is now owned by Alexander and Claire Durdin Robertson.

The town of Carlow is located in the South East of Ireland, surrounded by farmland and woods.
The River Barrow flows through the town and forms the historic boundary between counties Laois and Carlow.
The settlement of Carlow is thousands of years old and it has played a major role in Irish history, serving as the capital of the country in the 14th century.
The Virtual Drive Tour starts along the N80 road, just outside the town centre and continues along the O'Brien and Carpenters Way roads.
In few minutes we reach the town centre, passing across the old . Here you will find the Liberty Tree monument and local restaurants.
We continue the drive along the busy Kenndy Ave, reaching the Castle Hill road and passing over the River Barrow.
Here a sharp right run will bring us back along the Dublin road, in the northern area of the town.
