South Australia: From Oceans to Outback

From the rugged Outback to the glittering Southern Ocean, South Australia is known for its wildlife, food, wine and beauty.

South Australia is vast, spanning nearly half a million square miles. With a population of around one point six million people, that’s just four people per square mile.

Kangaroo Island is Australia’s third largest, and home to a remarkable range of wildlife. With over 800 native species of plants and rare sights like the endangered glossy black cockatoo, Kangaroo Island is typified by unspoiled wilderness and a magnificent selection of flora and fauna, including the kangaroos that give it its name.

Just over a thousand sea lions live and breed in the Seal Bay Conservation Park, one of the most popular tourist attractions of Kangaroo Island. Marine life thrives all across the shores of South Australia. The state’s coastline stretches for more than 3,000 miles, and after a flight of just 40 minutes from Adelaide the mighty Eyre Peninsula awaits.

Baird Bay is a small fishing village situated on the west of the peninsula. Snorkelling here isn’t a typical experience, as the the coastal waters are home to Australian sea lions and pods of dolphins.

Adelaide, the state capital city, was founded in 1836 as a planned, freely settled colony. It was a place where immigrants could settle free from religious persecution. Nowadays the city remains a vibrant, bustling cultural centre, home to thriving markets, a lively night scene and dozens of festivals a year.

From Adelaide’s beautiful architecture to a wealth of museums detailing its immigrant settlers, Adelaide does not shy away from its multicultural history. For example, the South Australian Museum houses the largest collection of Aboriginal ethnographic material in the world.

Climbing away from the coast and the bustle of the city are the quiet, rural hills of the Barossa Valley. The Barossa is world-renowned for its red wine, and over 150 wineries lie within an hour’s drive from Adelaide. But the Barossa is not only home to wine. It’s one of the world’s top culinary destinations.

The vibrancy of South Australia doesn’t end in Barossa. Follow the Stuart Highway north, beyond the hills and the vineyards of the Clare Valley to where green turns to red and the Outback begins.

For many the jewel in the crown of this region is the dramatic stretch of rock known fondly as the ‘Organ Pipes’. Gawler Range. Enormous, solid volcanic rhyolite is stacked in the cliff face here, ranging in size from stony grinning teeth to the elongated pillars that remind so many people of magnificent organs.

The rugged landscape of the Flinders Ranges epitomises the romanticism of outback Australia: big skies, incredible sunsets, and sun-baked desert as far as the eye can see.

In the summer it’s a hot, dry landscape. It might seem daunting at first, but look a bit closer and you’ll find the place teeming with life. The Flinders Ranges have also been inhabited by humans for thousands of years. Aborigines have walked in these hills since long before European settlers arrived, using the plants and the rocks for food and creating art.

The Flinders Ranges are now home to numerous towns and villages scattered along the highway. The area is accessible as a destination for hiking, cycling, camping and wildlife watching, giving visitors a taste of the iconic outback.

Rawnsley Park Station is a working farm that has managed to find a way to blend sheep farming and tourism. The owners provide scenic flights over the spectacular geological formation, Wilpena Pound.

Wilpena Pound is an ancient valley floor amidst mountains that have been eroded over hundreds of millions of years. Its golden walls are formed of highly resistant quartzite and sandstone. The area is protected from mining and most human impact other than tourism. Nowadays, 4x4s can be seen roaming along the ridgetops that command spectacular views of the timeless landscape.

Life can nevertheless be found all over the northern reaches of South Australia. The emu is a large, flightless bird, endemic to Australia and a close relation of the ostrich. Its long legs allow it to reach speeds of up to 30 miles an hour. It has become an iconic image of Australia.

Continuing up the spine of the country, we reach the northern regions of South Australia.

This is opal mining country, and the Painted Desert may seem barren, but can be extremely lucrative for those willing to work. The town of Coober Pedy is the opal mining capital of the world, known for the way its people live underground in dugouts to escape the fierce desert heat.

We’ve travelled from the crystal waters of the Southern Ocean to the dry beauty of the outback, covering one of the most magnificent states in Australia.

The Explorers’ Way crosses the state border, slicing the country in half as it continues into the Northern Territory.

Government House serves as the official residence of the Governor of New South Wales, who is the representative of the Australian monarch. The Governor-General carries out various constitutional and ceremonial functions at the state level.
The building is designed in the Gothic Revival architectural style and features sandstone construction, turrets, and intricate detailing. It is considered an important example of colonial architecture.
The residence is surrounded by well-maintained grounds and gardens, which are part of the Royal Botanic Garden. The gardens are open to the public, providing a peaceful setting with views of Sydney Harbour.

Walking around CRONULLA BEACH in Sydney Australia | Beach Ambience

Walking around Cronulla beach in Cronulla, Sydney Australia. Walk started from the corner of Surf Road & Gerrale Street to Cronulla beach then walked to Cronulla station via Beach Park Avenue.

Cronulla Beach (sometimes referred to as South Cronulla Beach), is a patrolled beach on Bate Bay, in Cronulla, New South Wales, Australia. The Cronulla Pavilion and the Cronulla Life Saving Club are two prominent buildings located close to the sand. Cronulla Park sits behind the beach. The Cronulla Rock Pools are between Cronulla Beach and North Cronulla beach. The Alley is the local name given to the area between Cronulla Beach and North Cronulla Beach. Shark Island is a dangerous reef break, located off Cronulla Beach.

The Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club, was one of the first surf clubs established in Australia in 1907. The club started out in a tram carriage and today it is housed in an art deco building on the beachfront, that was built in 1940.

Cronulla is one of the largest and strongest clubs in the surf life saving movement with 1,200 members, including 620 in its nipper ranks. Many lifesavers volunteer their time to patrol the beaches during the season from late September to late April. Cronulla has won three World Championships encompassing all rescue and Surf Life Saving competition and has consistently placed in the top 10 clubs at the Australian championships over the past 20 years.

Cronulla beach came to international prominence with the novel and film Puberty Blues. Subsequently there Puberty Blues was made into a television serial also produced in the area as was The Principal.

Glebe is an inner-western suburb of Sydney. Glebe is located 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) southwest of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of the City of Sydney, in the Inner West region.

Glebe is surrounded by Blackwattle Bay and Rozelle Bay, inlets of Sydney Harbour, in the north. The suburb of Ultimo lies to the east and the suburbs of Annandale and Forest Lodge lie to the west. The southern boundary is formed by Parramatta Road and Broadway. Broadway is a locality sited along the road of the same name, which is located on the border of Glebe, Chippendale and Ultimo.

Glebe Point Road is the main road through the suburb, featuring a shopping strip, known for its specialty shops and cafés and for its variety of ethnic restaurants – Indian, Thai, Italian, Nepalese, Dutch-Indonesian, and other minority ethnic tastes.

Broadway Shopping Centre was built on the landmark site of the former Grace Brothers department store. The shopping centre includes a food court and cinema complex, and completed a renovation in July 2007 which added a fourth floor.

Glebe has a popular market which is held on Saturdays in the grounds of Glebe Primary School. Arts, crafts, clothing and edibles are sold. They are known as the alternative markets for the alternative lifestyle goods that are offered. New and second-hand goods are sold there.

GoBoat Sydney Experience | Electric Picnic Boating | GoBoat Australia

Yo Waddup friends!

We hired a private electric boat in Cabarita (GoBoat) and sailed the waters of Sydney with our friends who were visiting from the Philippines.

It was a fun and a first for us driving a boat. We booked the two-hour session as we thought that was enough time for us to relax and enjoy the scenery and the picnic!

If you're thinking of doing this too, I’d recommend bringing lot's food and drinks (of course) but just beware of the birds, and warm clothing for the windy days and also a bluetooth speaker for your music.

Overall, it was a refreshing experience. It was a great way to spend time and do catch up with friends and family in a very different way.

With all of this, just watch the vid.

And...

See you in the next one!

Peace!

Bird watchers Lake , Play equipment and BBQ area, Spiral Lookout - Wentworth Common - Olympic Park

Just across from the Ring Walk frog pond, you would easily drive past it's small entrance, only one entrance in and out of the Wentworth Common Park and lookout.
The name itself gives you no clue to what is in there. You can park either side, we just parked where the large Wentworth vertical sign was on Marjorie Jackson Parkway.

There are 3 things you should check out, close to the entrance
A large lake of marsh and water birds, great for for birdwatchers and nature photographers, you will also find toilets and bubbler there.

The Playground seems to be broken up into 2 sections, the first
has a large sandpit with sandstone carved statues of a lizard and a frog, this section also has a swing. The second section Is larger and has most of the play equipment: flying fox, web` and a slide. There are quite a few unusual decks where you can sit and relax taking in the nature. There are many types of stepping stones and stepping platforms, the kids will have a great time there. This area is fantastic if you want to picnic it has sheltered tables and chairs, bike rack BBQ’s and a small duck pond.

The last place to check out is the bay marker, a cone shape
mound with a gentle sloping footpath that spirals to the top.
When you get to the top lookout, views of the wetlands, Haslams Creek, Homebush Bay and the city skyline can be seen. Wentworth can be done on foot or by bike, we did it with scooters and it was fun spiraling down slowly down the Marker.

No shops inside so bring your own lunch. Enjoy your day.
