Wilderness Expedition: Exploring Woodland Caribou Provincial Park | Documentary
Woodland Caribou Provincial Park has to be one of the world’s premier canoe-tripping destinations. A few years ago, I (Keenan) had the pleasure of paddling through this park with my brother on an ice-off fly-in trip. It was one of the best canoe trips I've ever experienced.
For the past few years my wife Ashley and I have been trying to plan a canoe trip to this unique destination but there always seemed to be something that got in our way, which was usually forest fires!
Over 50% of Woodland Caribou burnt in 2021 and that is on top of all the multiple, previous fires that have taken place over the years.
In the summer of 2022, we were finally able to make our dream a reality by visiting Woodland Caribou provincial park for the better part of two weeks.
This was one of the best canoe trips Ashley and I have ever been on. We were fortunate to experience some truly special and unique moments, including viewing the northern lights and incredible sunsets, witnessing a huge bull moose, and seeing an endangered Woodland Caribou.
This film was done in a slightly different style for us and we really hope you enjoy it. It was a lot of fun to put together. Revisiting the footage from this trip really makes us want to go back. After 28 days the trip comes to an early end as the park is now officially closed due to all the wildfires. I paddle away from the fire I found through Telescope Lake, Hjalmar Lake, Onnie Lake and then at last to Johnson to my road access pick up point.
This being my first solo, I enjoyed every second of this trip. I've learned lots about solo travel, about the area and about myself. I came out of this trip feeling better then ever before! physically as well as mentally.
I hope you all enjoyed the series. It was just the first of many solo trips.
