Porto & Vila Nova de Gaia - Portugal
Porto & Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, 2007.
Porto is the second-largest city in Portugal after Lisbon and one of the major urban areas of the Iberian Peninsula.
Located along the Douro river estuary in Northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centres, and its historical core was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. The western part of its urban area extends to the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. Its settlement dates back many centuries, when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. Its combined Celtic-Latin name, Portus Cale, has been referred to as the origin of the name “Portugal”, based on transliteration and oral evolution from Latin. In Portuguese, the name of the city is spelled with a definite article o Porto; Consequently, its English name evolved from a misinterpretation of the oral pronunciation and referred to as Oporto in modern literature and by many speakers.
One of Portugal’s internationally famous exports, port wine, is named after Porto, since the metropolitan area, and in particular the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, were responsible for the packaging, transport and export of the fortified wine.

PT: As praias situadas mais a norte no concelho de Vila Nova de Gaia são as de Lavadores, Pedras Amarelas e Salgueiros. Situam-se na freguesia de Canidelo, que ocupa o canto Noroeste do concelho.
Outrora com maior areal, viram-no diminuir nas últimas décadas, devido ao avanço gradual do mar. Actualmente, para além dos banhos, são ponto de atracção aos fins de semana para passeios à beira mar e prática de desporto, e à noite, pelos restaurantes e esplanadas com vista para o mar.

Afurada já foi uma freguesia de Vila Nova de Gaia até 2013. É uma povoação na margem esquerda do rio Douro, junto à foz, com um porto de pesca e cuja população vive, na maioria, da pesca no mar. A fixação de pescadores neste lugar, dita o aparecimento desta povoação.
Também na margem esquerda do rio Douro e um pouco mais a jusante, encontra-se a freguesia de Canidelo, onde o rio se alarga e em cujo estuário se fixam sazonalmente muitas espécies de aves. Recentemente inaugurada (em 2012 ) a marina de Canidelo é o porto de abrigo para barcos de recreio no rio Douro (com capacidade para 300 barcos).

[4K] PORTO CITY, PORTUGAL (2019) Gaia walking tour
We're back in Porto Portugal - join us on this Porto City 4K walking tour through Vila Nove de Gaia, along the banks of the Rio Duoro. Keeping us company across the water is Cais da Ribiera and the square known as Praça da Ribeira, and ahead us beckons the Ponte de D. Luís (Ponte Luis I bridge) - the double deck metal bridge that connects Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia across the Rio Duoro.
We start in the backstreets near some of the famous Port wine cellars (Sandeman, Croft, Ramos Pinto and Quinta dos Corvos to name a few.) We head onto Cais de Gaia - cable cars (the Teleférico de Gaia) pass over our heads as they make their way to the station just beneath Jardim do Morro.
Along the banks, most of the large Port wine suppliers offer tastings and tours of their offices, and there's a great selection of restaurants and cafes to stop at and enjoy the view.
We finish this walk on the lower, pedestrian section of the Ponte Luis I bridge, looking west along the winding Rio Douro.
This Porto City 4K, slow TV walk takes you along the waterfront of Vila Nova de Gaia, home to many famous Port wine cellars. Definitely one of the top 10 things to do in Porto, especially if you're stuck on what to see if you visit.

Si te gusta viajar con la caravana a cuestas, Oporto (Porto) es uno de esos viajes que tienes que planificar. El Camping Orbitur Canidelo es una opción interesante por su proximidad al centro histórico. De facil acceso, es un camping más que aceptable, aunque las parcelas eran algo estrechas. Su principal ventaja, es que en apenas 15 minutos en coche, si el tráfico no está complicado, puedes estar paseando por las calles de Oporto. Además, muy cerca del camping, hay un Mercadona donde llenar la nevera de vuestra caravana.
