Prambanan is a Hindu temple compound from the 10th century, dedicated to Shiva and located on the Java island of Indonesia. The central building of Prambanan is 47 m/154 ft. A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also in the video: the nearby Candi Sewu (Buddhist temple from the 8th century), Ratu Boko (large archeological site from around the 8th century), and Candi Plaosan (Buddhist temple from the 9th century).

Java is one of Indonesia’s most diverse and beautiful islands. In this travel video, I show you 10 of my favorite places to visit. From surreal mountain landscapes and volcanoes to bustling cities, from tranquil fishing villages to historic temples set among green lush rice fields.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video (which can be used as a travel guide):
We begin this journey in Jakarta, the nation’s capital, and one of Asia’s largest cities. The city can feel overwhelming at first sight, but there are some great areas to visit, including museums, historic neighborhoods, and modern shopping malls.
After Jakarta, we travel to Yogyakarta, the cultural heartland of Java. It’s a much more relaxed place to walk around, and provides a more traditional perspective of Indonesia, with music performances (gamelan songs) and shadow puppet theatre. I also visit local farmers in the countryside around the city. Most are growing rice in green paddy fields, and are happy to show you around.
Around Yogyakarta you will find two of Indonesia’s most stunning temples. Borobudur is a Buddhist temple, and easily one of the most impressive historic structures in Asia. Prambanan is of Hindu origin, and its architecture is very different from Borobudur.
Mount Bromo is arguably one of Indonesia’s most famous volcanoes, and it’s actually possible to get up on the ridge, to get a peek into its crater. The next destination is Pangandaran, a peaceful seaside town with some beautiful beaches and powerful waves, and a popular holiday destination.
Semarang is a busy city with some beautiful historic architecture, including the church which was built in Dutch colonial times. The Christian minority still uses this church. After Semarang, we travel to Kawah Ijen, a surreal volcanic crater where miners are collecting blocks of sulfur. In some moments, this place felt apocalyptic.
In the fishing port of Banyuwangi (also the gateway to Bali) you will find some spectacular fishing boats, with bright colors and classic design. The town’s atmosphere is friendly, and it’s nice to walk around visiting some of the markets. The region around Banyuwangi is well suited for agriculture, and is used for cacao, rubber, and coffee production.
In the lush green mountains around Wonosobo, you will find some beautiful tea plantations, that are open to visit. We finish the journey in Surabaya, an important business and trading hub in Indonesia. It might not boast a lot of ‘tourist attractions’, but it’s a nice place to visit. The main mosque is a highlight, where the local Muslim population comes to pray. It provides an interesting view into the main religion in Indonesia, Islam. On Fridays, this area turns into an ‘open air restaurant’, with street food sellers offering their finest dishes.

We keep visiting temples in Java, Indonesia! In this vlog, Prambanan, the largest Hindu temple (or 'candi' ????????????????) in the country and second-largest in Southeast Asia, as well as a beautiful sunset at Ratu Boko, a former palace nearby. We're on a day-trip from Yogyakarta to Central Java, seeing 3 main tourist attractions on the same day: Prambanan, Ratu Boko, and Borodubur, which was in the previous video: - Prambanan and Borobudur are Unesco World Heritage Sites.
The main temples in Prambanan are dedicated to the Trimurti in Hinduism: Brahma, the Creator,
Vishnu, the Preserver, and Shiva, the Destroyer.
This trip to Indonesia was before the lockdown.

Prambanan Temple in Wonderful Indonesia
Prambanan Temple compound is located on the central Indonesian Island of Java. Built in the 10th century, these structures are decorated with intricate reliefs dedicated to the great Hindu divinities of Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.
The main temples of Prambanan are surrounded by hundreds of shrines and show off the high levels of stone building technology and architecture that took place in Java from the 8th century. With over 500 temples, the Prambanan Temple Compound represents an architectural and cultural treasure for visitors to explore.

Borobudur, Indonesia [Amazing Places 4K]
Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple/stupa in the world. It is located in Java, Indonesia and was built in the 9th century. The monument is UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The monument consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. The temple is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa. (Wikipedia)

Prambanan Temple Yogyakarta 2019 - A Must See on Java Island Indonesia (in 4k)
Of all the things to do and see when visiting Java Indonesia, Prambanan Temple, along with Borobudur, is one of the not to be missed sites on your Indonesia sightseeing tour. Than main Prambanan temple complex and the nearby smaller Ratu Boko complex can be visited in one day from Yogyakarta, and you can buy a day ticket which includes entrance to both temple complexes and a return coach transfer from Prambanan to Batu Roko.
Prambanan is an ancient Hindu temple which was once destroyed by eruptions from nearby Mount Morepi, but is now being slowly restored and raised from the ruins. In this video I will show you how and where to buy your ticket, and give you an insight into the history of Prambanan.
When I visited in 2019 the combined ticket price for Prambanan and Rotu Bako was US$45, although you will pay in Indonesian Rupiah. At the time of my visit this worked out at Rp 75,000. For local visitors from Indonesia the price was Rp 35,000.

Join us on this visit to the incredible Candi Prambanan temple in Java, Indonesia. This is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia, which is regarded as the biggest muslim country in the world by population. About a thousand years ago, Java was predominantly Hindu - which is when the temple was built. The Prambanan temple is actually an ancient temple built in honor of Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva (being the main deity) here. The tickets to visit Prambanan temple are very expensive - its about IDR 375k per person for a one day ticket and we spent nearly all day from 11 am to closing time at 5 pm.

INDONESIA - INCREDIBLE PRAMBANAN TEMPLE - Yogyakarta
You MUST visit the Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta.
Prambanan is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia, and one of the biggest in Southeast Asia. The temple structures have distinctive pointed architecture with the tallest being the Shiva shrine at 47 meters high.
If visiting Prambanan make sure you spend some time at Candi Sewu. It is in the same complex and is just 800 meters from Prambanan Temple. The buses will only stop at the Sewu temple for just 10 minutes before heading back to Prambanan. Don’t make the same mistake we nearly did and get back on the bus straight away. As soon as the bus started heading back we immediately regretted leaving. We decided it would be a huge mistake not to explore the temple, so we did a full circle and came straight back. We were so glad we did. Exploring Candi Sewu was a highlight for us and it really had that feeling that it was part of a ruin with most of the surrounding smaller temples still yet to be reconstructed. And the biggest thing of all was we couldn’t believe we were pretty much the only ones there.
Candi Sewu is actually a buddhist temple. Not Hindu. It was originally built in the 8th century before both Prambanan and Borobudur.
We were also very happy with our driver Yudi from Yogyakarta Driver. We highly recommend using their services if you are in Yogyakarta.

With three main temples for the Trimurti; Shiva the destroyer of the universe, Vishnu the keeper of the universe, and Brahma the creator of the universe. Prambanan is used as a Candi Agung for various royal and religious ceremonies.’

Prambanan is a 9th-century Hindu temple located approximately 17 kilometres northeast of Yogyakarta. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia and the second-largest in Southeast Asia after Angkor Wat!

Borobudur temple sits majestically on the top of a hill overlooking the lush green fields and distant hills. Covering an enormous area. This monument is an architectural wonder, decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The architecture and stonework of this temple cannot be compared with any other. And it was built without using any kind of cement or mortar!
The whole structure is in the form of a lotus flower floating on the lake. Besides being the highest symbol of Buddhism, the Borobodur stupa is also a replica of theuniverse.In total, it represents the ten levels of a Bodhisattva’s life which he or she must develop to become a Buddha or an awakened one. These ten levels of the temple symbolize the three divisions of the cosmic system. As visitors begin their journey at the base of the temple, they make their way to the top of the monument through the three levels , Kamadhatu (the world of desire),This is the the lowest level which represents man’s world of desire is influenced by negative impulses.Thislevel has 160 reliefs depicting cause and effect:
Rupadhatu (the world of forms) the middle level, the world in which man has control of his negative impulses and uses his positive impulses. This level has various stories of the Buddha’s life..and Arupadhatu (the world of formlessness) the highest level, in which the world of man is no longer bounded by physical and worldly desires. This level has no reliefs or decorations whatsoever but has a balcony, square in shape with round walls: a circle without beginning or end. Here is the place of the seventy-two Vajrasattvas or Dhyani Buddhas tucked into small stupas.
Each of these statues has a mudra (hand gesture) indicating one of the five directions: east, with the mudra of calling the earth to witness; south, with the hand position of blessing; west, with the gesture of meditation; north, the mudra of fearlessness; and the centre with the gesture of teaching. It is a devotional practice to circumambulate around the galleries and terraces always turning to the left and keeping the edifice to the right while either chanting or meditating.
The temple has remained strong even through ten centuries of neglect. It was rediscovered in 1815, buried under volcanic ash. In the 1970’s the Indonesian Government and UNESCO worked together to restore Borobudur to its former majesty The restoration took eight years to complete and today Borobudur is one of Indonesia and the world’s most valuable treasures.
