The Fattoria di Vibio in Montecastello di Vibio
The scenic approach to the Fattoria di Vibio passes through lush green hills, by picturesque farms, and is highlighted by a romantic view of the quaint town of Todi, 20 kilometers away.
The houses sit side by side and share between them 14 double rooms with private baths.
Common areas for guests include a cozy, country-style living room with fireplace, games room, and country kitchen.
The accommodations are enhanced by preserved architectural features such as terracotta floors and exposed-beam ceilings, and typical Umbrian handicrafts such as wrought-iron beds, renovated antiques, and Deruta ceramics.

The town is 45 minutes from Siena, about 2 hours from Florence, and a little less than 2.5 hours from Pisa. Montalcino sits on a hill which was probably settled by the Etruscans. Its first mention in historical documents in 814 AD suggests there was a church here in the 9th century, most likely built by monks associated with the nearby Abbey of Sant'Antimo. The town takes its name from a variety of oak tree that once covered the terrain. The very high site of the town offers stunning views over the Asso, Ombrone and Arbia valleys of Tuscany, dotted with silvery olive orchards, vineyards, fields and villages. Staying at B&B in Sienna (Hotel Santa Caterina) just outside the Sienna city wall and taking day trips via Hertz rental car for two days to several nearby hill towns. 4/30/14 we stroll some in Sienna and then went by rental car to Montalcino and Pienza. We ended our day back in Sienna at Hotel Caterina and then out for dinner in Sienna. [ 29 images in 4 min]
