Madeira Places Vacation Travel Guide , TOP Places you must see . Madeira is a Portuguese island located in the Atlantic Ocean 580 km west of Morocco. The capital is Funchal. The whole island is mountainous, and therefore the interior is sparsely populated. There is a plateau Paul da Serra (1500 m above sea level), which passes in a place called Rabaçal into a deep valley. The highest peaks of the island are Pico Ruivo (1862 m) and Pico do Arieiro (1818 m) and offer magnificent views.

Madeira Island a bucket list place for so many in Portugal! Funny enough we didn't even know about this beautiful island until our flight happened to stop here on the way to Turkey and immediately I knew it was special! So special that when we came back to Madeira we ended up living here for 5 months! Spent one month living on Ponta Do Sol and then Calheta and then the rest of the time in Canico but adventured a ton during those 5 months so ask us anything!

Camacha, Madeira
Camacha is a beautiful small village a few kilometres in the hills east of Funchal. It is famous for its 'Apple Festival' and its very active folklore dance groups.
Camacha is also called 'the village of basket makers'.
