ERBALUCE WINE TASTING AT MERLO TAPPERO DOMENICO VINEYARD IN PIEMONTE CANAVESE.

We share a visit we made in late spring to a remarkable wine maker in Northern Piedmont. After so many years living in Piedmont and so many wineries it’s not often that we get blown away by one, as we did on this visit to Domenico Tappero Merlo at his Vigna del Belvedere in the Canavese.

MERLO TAPPERO DOMENICO

The Canavese is a remarkable wine area north of Turin, located on a moraine (glacial deposits) emerging from the Val d’Aosta in the Quaternary period (some 900,000 years ago).

The area is famous for its white Erbaluce wines and the late harvest “passito” version.

Please do subscribe and this will keep you notified of all our new videos in this channel including cooking with Rina, many more winery visits and other places, next week we will be going to the big Truffle fair in Alba, and as restrictions are being lifted we will be travelling around Italy again so please stay tuned.

The Italian Alpine Blue Cheese That Doesn't Turn Blue (Castelmagno d'Alpeggio) | Claudia Romeo

Castelmagno cheese is a very special blue cheese because, unlike other blue cheeses, it's not 100% guaranteed that it will turn blue. The reason for that is that, unlike other blue cheeses, it is not inoculated with the fungus, Penicillium Roqueforti, that creates the blue veins, but rather, it is left to age in caves where the fungus is naturally present. So cheesemakers in the area have no say in whether or not the blue veins will actually form. There are some cheeses that never get them and some that get very little. I met Enzo from the Des Martin dairy in Valliera, Piedmont, Italy to see how Castelmagno cheese is made.

[EN] Around the year 1920 is born the Azienda Stella, in Costigliole in Asti, in the heart of the Monferrato. Monferrato is one of the best-known Italian wine regions in the world, especially regards red wines and sparkling wines. Up to a few decades ago, the firm was addressed to the production of genuine wines, already with the idea leading to underline the autochthonous vines, that abound in Piedmont. As a demonstration of this, it can be noted that all the wines produced by the company are produced from native grapes of the Piedmont area.

A day at Summer Camp in Italy!

Summer camp rules!

Road to MicroMegaWines 23: Sustainability and Biodiversity

The sixth of the Talks dedicated to MicroMegaWines. Ian D'Agata introduces the producers participating in the second edition of the highest quality small production area, a unicum in the international panorama of wine fairs.

The protagonists of the talk:

- Tazzelenghe Team: Tazzelenghe is an indigenous grape variety from the Buttrio (Udine) area, with a true, forthright and little cultivated character. Fabio d'Attimis of the Conte d'Attimis Maniago winery, a young generation of the company with an active role on the Tazzelenghe Team, tells us about it.

- Azienda Vitivinicola Mustazza di Mustazza Cristoforo is engaged in the processing and sale of wine made exclusively from its own grapes. The company's goal is to produce quality wines that are able to express the typical characteristics of the territory.

- The Palagio di Panzano of Monia and Franco is a small world apart that amazes for its harmonious blend of contrasts: old and new, traditional and courageously creative, “Panzanese” by heart and cosmopolitan by spirit.

- Giovani Vignaioli Canavesani, a small group of energetic and vital winemakers under 40 who have given new life and value to the wines of their territory, in the name of preserving peasant culture and winemaking traditions. Vittorio Garda, president of the association, tells us about it.

These and other niche wineries of unquestionable quality are waiting for you at Vinitaly from April 2nd to 5th 2023 in Hall H.

Never stop wondering about this incredible Italian wine!

Video Cantina Tenuta Montemagno 2021

The land holds the most precious treasure of the Asti area. A wealth that the Tenuta Montemagno shows through the luxuriance of its crops. From the same municipality of Montemagno the vineyards extend up to Altavilla, Viarigi and Casorzo. Here the eye is lost on the rows of some of the oldest and most famous grapes in Piedmont.

Thanks to the exposure of the vineyards to the South-West, to the particular microclimate enjoyed of this area with its clayey and limestone soil, to the processing managed entirely by hand, to the brilliant intuitions of the Barea family and to the expert advice of the oenologist Gianfranco Cordero, in Tenuta Montemagno bottles of great importance are born, included in the top 100 of the best wines in Italy.

As tradition dictates, the harvesting, vinification and aging operations take place in the ancient painted cellars of Tenuta Montemagno, equipped with cutting-edge technologies. Here traditional wines with a strong character and new wines come to life and rest, such as TM Brut, a classic method obtained by vinifying Barbera grapes.

Attraversando Bergamasco (AL) - Crossing Bergamasco (Alessandria, Piemonte - Italy)

Interessante la presenza di un castello che ospita, al proprio interno, un museo del cinema - Bergamasco is a village of 780 inhabitants in the province of Alessandria (Piemonte, Italy), near Belbo Creek and behind the hills of Monferrato. Interesting is the presence of a castle that houses, internally, a film museum.
