Jose Rizal is the National Hero of the Philippines. He was from Calamba, Laguna in the Philippines, the neighboring city from my Mom's hometown, Cabuyao Laguna. In fact, before Rizal was born Calamba used to be considered part of Cabuyao until it was changed to Calamba sometime in the 1800s. We visit which in tagalog is the Museo ni Jose Rizal and explore the history of his family inside the house he grew up in.
We also head to SM City Calamba and find 20 peso Soft Serve Ube Ice Cream and find out about the legend of Mary Makiling and her connection to the volcano Mount Makiling.

The Rizal Shrine (Calamba) (Filipino: Museo ni José Rizal Calamba) is a reproduction of the original two-story, Spanish-Colonial style house in Calamba, Laguna where José Rizalwas born on June 19, 1861. Rizal is regarded as one of the greatest national heroes of the Philippines. The house is designated as a National Shrine (Level 1) by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. It is located along Mercado Street and Rizal Street in Calamba's Poblacion 5 and is in close proximity to St. John the Baptist Parish Church and the City College of Calamba.

Calamba, officially the City of Calamba, is a 1st class component city in the province of Laguna, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 539,671 people.
It is the regional center of the Calabarzon region. It is situated 50 kilometres (31 mi) south of Manila, 37 kilometres (23 mi) west of Santa Cruz, Laguna, 31 kilometres (19 mi) north of San Pablo, Laguna and 23.6 kilometres (14.7 mi) east of Tagaytay. The city is known as the Spring Resort Capital of the Philippines[1] because of its numerous hot spring resorts, which are mostly located in Barangays Pansol, Bucal, Bagong Kalsada, and Lingga.
According to the 2020 census, the city has a population of 539,671 people, making it the most populous local government unit in Laguna. [4] It is the fifth-densest city in the province with more than 2,600 people per square kilometer after San Pedro, Biñan, Cabuyao, and Santa Rosa. Based on the overall rankings of the 2014 Cities and Municipalities Index, the city ranked 18th in the overall competitiveness (cities ranking) and first among cities in the Calabarzon region. The city is known to be the Calabarzon's richest city, followed by Cabuyao City, because of its numerous factories.

88 Hot Spring Resort in Calamba Laguna is probably the best resort in the area. This beautiful resort has a total of 11 swimming pools with naturally heated spring water. 88 Hot Spring Resort was awarded as the best resort in Laguna in year 2007.
88 Hot Spring Resort Review:
- They follow safety and health protocols
- Near Manila. It only took us an hour and 15 minute drive from Taguig. Faster travel time than Tagaytay!
- Pet friendly
- Beautiful landscape and surroundings
- Safe for social distancing as the resort is 7 hectare and has lots of swimming pools to choose from
- Pools have health benefits. Perfect to those who want to destress!
- Restaurant serves Korean food as the resort owner is a Korean. They offer samgyupsal!
- The restaurant's waiters and staff are very friendly friendly and accommodating
- They have facilities such as art building, volleyball court, duck boats...
- Interior of our accommodation (Pension house) needs renovation. The beautiful surroundings of the resort and the beautiful exterior of the Pension House does not match its interior.
- May not be a perfect place to those who want a peaceful and quiet staycation as the resort accepts day tour guests. I highly suggest to book on a weekday.
- Perfect for family or barkada outings. During our visit, most of the guests are families with kids and group of friends. So, if you are wondering if they accept kids.. I think the answer is yes (pwede mga bata).
Would I recommend 88 Hot Spring Resort Laguna? Yes for family outings and barkada staycation.
