Nature Trail and Sibyl Temple in Vestavia Hills, AL
We shot the first part of this video while hiking the nature trail behind Vestavia Hills Public Library. The second part was shot at the Sibyl Temple also in Vestavia Hills. This is not my usual hiking type video, but I hope you find it interesting anyway. We just wanted to check out some local places we had never been to. It was quite a trip to go out and basically play tourist in my own home and get to look at some local places with fresh eyes.

Closer to the inn is the Magnolia River, where guests can take a boat trip, kayak the river, parasail, visit the wildlife reserves, rent a bike and traverse backcountry trails, fish and hike.

Alabama's First Capitals
As a separate territory and state since 1817, Alabama has had five capitals. Saint Stephens, in southwest Alabama, was designated in the Congressional act creating the territory as the temporary seat of government.
The territorial legislature, however, had chosen Cahaba (also spelled Cahawba), at the confluence of the Cahaba and Alabama Rivers, as the site for the capital of the state, so the second session of the legislature met there in 1820.
Tuscaloosa was a thriving community located on the shoals of the Black Warrior River and had been a strong candidate for the capital site when Cahaba had been chosen for the honor in 1819.
Andrew Dexter, one of the founders of the town, had held on to a prime piece of property in long anticipation of the capital's eventual move to Montgomery.
Is Miss Myra's Pit BBQ the Best Barbecue in Alabama?
Miss Myra's BBQ is in the Cahaba Heights neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama. This BBQ joint has an excellent reputation for consistency. They are known for their barbecued chicken with Alabama white sauce, but also have very good pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and smoked sausage. They've been smoking meat on the same hickory pit since 1984.
Andrew Zimmern (Bizarre Foods, The Zimmern List) literally lost his mind over Miss Myra's banana pudding and was quoted to say, Without question, the banana pudding is the best banana pudding in the world.
Myra's has the history, consistency, and skillful pit masters to be one of the best barbecue joints in Alabama. How did Sam and Jacky score them?
