Cabramatta ('Cabra') is a suburb in south-western Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Cabramatta is located 30 kilometres (19 mi) south-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Fairfield.
Freedom Plaza is located within the Cabramatta CBD and forms the pedestrian mall between John Street and Arthur Street. The Pai Lau or gateway forms the main ornamental feature of Freedom Plaza and symbolises harmony and multiculturalism. It was opened in 1991 by Nick Greiner, the Premier of New South Wales at the time, as part of Lunar New Year celebrations.

TOUR of CABRAMATTA - Little Vietnam Australia | Asian Tour of Sydney
Part 6 - this time round I'm going to visit Cabramatta in NSW. It is the largest area for Vietnamese in Sydney, and it definitely has a rich history which set the trend for the wave of multiculturalism in Sydney and Australia. Cabramatta ('Cabra') is a suburb in south-western Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Cabramatta is located 30 kilometres (19 mi) south-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Fairfield.
Films set in the suburb
Once Upon a Time in Cabramatta, a 3 Part Documentary filmed by SBS simulcasted on SBS One and SBS Two.
Little Fish (2005) was filmed in the Cabramatta area. It starred Cate Blanchett, Sam Neill, Hugo Weaving and Martin Henderson.
Prior to Little Fish, a film named The Finished People by Khoa Do, who grew up in a nearby suburb, was filmed/shot in the Cabramatta area.
Taking Charge of Cabramatta, a documentary by Markus Lambert and Dai Le was filmed in 1998. The documentary starring former convicted murderer of Cabramatta MP John Newman and former Fairfield Councillor Phuong Canh Ngo was funded by SBS and screened by ABC TV.
Change of Our Lives (2013) is a film by Maria Tran about the Vietnamese community and hepatitis B, which was set in Cabramatta. The movie was commissioned by Cancer Council and Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE).

Cabramatta has been a melting pot for all manner of Asian and European peoples in the latter half of the 20th century. Since the 1980s, Cabramatta has been a centre for the Vietnamese, as well as many residents from other Asian and European origins. At least as many as a quarter of Vietnamese speakers in Australia had some form of Chinese ancestry.

In this week’s food tour we went to Cabramatta to eat some of the best Vietnamese food in Sydney, Australia. To get the full authenticity of things John from JohnMalieTv will be showing us around some of his favourite Vietnamese spots including making your own rice paper roll Banh Hoi Dac Biet
Cabramatta is around 35-40 minutes by train from Sydney central station and its one of the one of the highest concentrated Vietnamese people living in the area which sees many people flocking to cabramatta to get the best authentic Vietnamese cuisine.

This restaurant first opened in 1980 as Cabramatta's first Pho restaurant and still going strong, they are famous for their Pho Bo or Pho Beef Combination. This is John’s favourite place to eat Pho in Cabramatta

Just next door from Pho Tau Bay is this shop and interestingly I’ve always eaten Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls premade, but today we have one of the best experience a DIY – do it yourself Vietnamese Rice Paper Roll experience with all the toppings otherwise known as Banh Hoi Dac Biet.
Tan Viet Noodle House
We absolutely love this place for its crispy chicken with egg noodle (mi ga da don) its an absolute treat – with garlic oil for the noodle, tender and succulent juicy chicken meat and the as the name says it’s the skin is extra crispy that almost instantly gives it the biggest crunchy texture.
