Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK

Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:

If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.

If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).

Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.

European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.

If you have any further visa questions visit the official UK government website.

10 Poorest Places in The UK

What are the poorest places in the UK? The last thing that’ll come to mind when the UK is mentioned is poverty. It’s not among the countries you’ll associate poverty with. This should be clearly noted as we begin. Yet, not every part of Great Britain has the affluence of London, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Some places in the UK are poor. We’re here to show you the 10 poorest places in the UK.
These places are the same neighborhood with the biggest shortages of basic social infrastructure and facilities such as playgrounds, parks, pubs, shops, and sports centers. You’ll find some of them among the areas left behind in England, Wales, and Scotland. Authorities have to do something about these 10 poorest places in the UK.
10. Newport, Wales
We’re starting in Wales. One of the poorest places in the UK is a city and county borough in Gwent in Wales. We are referring to Newport which is situated on the River Usk close to the river’s confluence with the Severn Estuary. It is 19 kilometers northeast of Cardiff. Newport’s population of 145,700 at the 2011 census notwithstanding, all is not going on fine with the city. It can’t get past its nagging poverty.
Imagine this: of Newport’s 95 neighborhoods in Newport, 23 currently rank among the most deprived in Wales. Do the math, and you will find out that this is about 24 percent of the authority. That’s the biggest percentage of deprivation in the country.
9. Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland
Wales doesn’t have a monopoly on poor places. Scotland has, at least, one of the 10 poorest places in the UK. You’ll find the ninth on our list in Inverclyde. This is Greenock, a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area. The town with a population of 44,248 is located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland.
As proof of how gripping the poverty state of this town is, its population reduced by almost 3,000 within 10 years. In a report that shows how poor some parts of the nations are, Greenock tops the list. In the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020, Greenock has the highest number of deprived areas in Scotland.
8. Halton, England
England too has some of the poorest places in the UK and the first of these on this list is the eighth poorest place in the UK, Halton. The district and unitary authority that registers its name on this list has a borough status in Cheshire.
When you consider its ranking as one of the worst areas in England and Wales by a global children's charity that also ranks Halton as one of the worst areas in England and Wales to be a girl, you will understand why Halton slipped into the rank of the 20 most deprived areas in England. Other indices like life expectancy, children poverty which is 25 percent, health inequality, and unemployment rates are not in a positive light for this district.
7. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
We’re back in Wales to find Merthyr Tydfil, the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, as the seventh of the 10 poorest places in the UK. The town administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is about 37 kilometers north of Cardiff. Often called Merthyr, the town believed to be named after Tydfil, daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, has a population of 43,820.
This town seems to be hitting above its weight as the go-to place for those looking for gloomy job news. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. Even though it's an iron producer, poor transportation service is the bane of this town that makes it so poor.
6. South Elmsall, England
South Elmsall is a small town and a civil parish lying to the east of Hemsworth with a population of 6,519. When it comes to safety, this town is among the most dangerous of small towns, villages, and cities in West Yorkshire. It’s faring badly in income deprivation, employment deprivation, education, skills and training deprivation, health deprivation, and disability. The 2021 overall crime rate in South Elmsall was 111 crimes per 1,000 people Living in this small town, you will be on a downward spiral of ill health and at the risk of premature death or the impairment of quality of life caused by poor physical or mental health.

The 7 Must Go Lakes in the North Georgia Mountains 4K (DJI Mavic Air 2 Footage) North of Atlanta!!

Hope you enjoy the video collection of the 7 Must Go Lakes in the North Georgia Mountains! Please let me know which one is your favorite & Why? The North Georgia Mountains & their lakes are just breath taking.

Lake Chatuge is a man-made reservoir created by the Chatuge Dam which finished construction in 1942. The lake is relatively shallow with depths of 30 feet (9.1 m) and reaches 144 feet (44 m) by the dam. Lake Chatuge is the highest major lake in the state of Georgia.

Carters Lake is a man-made reservoir located on the Coosawattee River in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Gilmer and Murray counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is the state's deepest lake. The reservoir was named after Farrish Carter who lived in the 19th century. It has a surface area of 3,200 acres (13 km2) and has 62 miles (100 km) of shoreline. Carters Lake has an average depth of 200 feet (61 m) and a maximum depth of 450 feet . The lake served as inspiration for the wild river that was tamed by a dam in the novel and film Deliverance by James Dickey.

Lake Burton is a 2,775 acre reservoir with 62 miles (100 km) of shoreline located in the northeastern corner of Georgia in Rabun County. The lake is owned and administered by the Georgia Power/Southern Company, but it is a public lake. Noted for the remarkable clarity of its water and surrounded by the biodiverse ecosystem of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the lake celebrated its centennial in 2020.

Lake Allatoona is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Etowah River in northwestern part of the State of Georgia. This reservoir is mostly in southeastern Bartow County and southwestern Cherokee County. A small portion is located in Cobb County near Acworth.

Cartersville is the nearest city to Allatoona Dam. Also, Red Top Mountain State Park is located on its shores, on the peninsula between the two arms of the lake. Most of the north side of the lake remains protected from land development because of its isolated location, mostly blocked by the lake.

Lake Rabun is a twisty 835-acre (3.4 km2) reservoir with 25 miles (40 km) of shoreline located in the Northeastern corner of the U.S. state of Georgia in Rabun County. It is the third lake in a six-lake series that follows the original course of the Tallulah River. The series begins with Lake Burton as the northernmost lake, followed by Lake Seed, Lake Rabun, Lake Tallulah Falls, Lake Tugalo, and Lake Yonah. Lake Rabun was built in a deep valley located along a 10-mile (16 km) section of the Tallulah River.

The lakes are owned and operated by the Georgia Power Company to generate hydroelectric energy for Georgia's largest city, Atlanta.

Blue Ridge Lake is a reservoir in Fannin County, in the northern portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. The reservoir encompasses 3,300-acre (1,300 ha) of water, and a full summer pool of approximately 1,686 feet (514 m) above mean sea level. It is managed by the Tennessee Valley Authority and is primarily fed by the Toccoa River.

Blue Ridge Lake was created by the completion of Blue Ridge Dam and has approximately 60 miles (97 km) of shoreline and a flood storage capacity of 68,550 acre-feet (84,560,000 m3). The lake's levels fluctuate by about 20 feet (6.1 m) in a typical year. Blue Ridge Dam was completed in 1930. It stands 175 feet high and is 1,553 feet wide across the Toccoa river. The dam provides up to 13 megawatts of power via a single generator.

Lake Nottely (also called Nottely Reservoir) is one of many reservoirs of the Tennessee Valley Authority. It is located entirely in Union County, Georgia in the United States and within the Chatahoochee-Oconee National Forests. Formed in 1942 by the damming of the Nottely River, Nottely Reservoir extends 20 miles (30 km) upstream to the town of Blairsville.

Construction of Nottely Dam began in 1941 and was completed in 1942. The dam is 184 feet (56 m) high and stretches 2,300 feet (701 m) across the Nottely River. Lake Nottely is approximately 20 miles (32 km) long and 102 feet (31 m) wide as well as an average depth of 10.6 metres (35 ft), a max depth of 98 feet (30 m) at the dam, and has a flood-storage capacity of 61,588 acre-feet (75,968,000 m3).

Approximately 70% of the shoreline is under the jurisdiction of the United States Forest Service and undeveloped. Its proximity to Atlanta (2 hours) is resulting in increased use of this reservoir.

About the Park:

Burton Island is a 253-acre park off the southwestern tip of St. Albans Point in Lake Champlain’s 'Inland Sea'. The park is accessible only by boat, with the state’s passenger ferry making the 10-minute trip from Kamp Kill Kare State Park.

18th century maps refer to this as the “Isle of White.” Jesse Welden, an early St. Albans settler and agent for Ethan and Ira Allen, is attributed with clearing and farming the island. As recently as 1874, Lake Champlain navigation charts label it “Potter’s Island,” though C.C. Burton, a farmer on the mainland, was using the island for pasture by the 1840’s. Sidney Burton owned the island through the early 1900’s and leased it to tenant farmers who raised cows, pigs, sheep and chickens. Crops included beans and peas. Remnants of the island’s agricultural past such as fence lines and stone piles, rusted farm implements and the foundation of the old barn are still visible.

Sidney Burton built a hunting and fishing camp on the eastern point in 1902. Ida Lashway inherited the island and continued leasing to tenant farmers, selling it to Randall Dimon in the 1950’s. The Dimon’s summered in the cottage for many years after selling the island to the State of Vermont in 1962.

Burton Island State Park opened in 1964. Original plans to build a causeway was abandoned for the unique appeal of an island campground without cars. A marina was built to accommodate boats. Ferry service was implemented in the 1980’s. The marina is a lively stopover for people cruising the lake. The campground is popular with those who enjoy relaxing on a semi-remote island away from cars.

Early logistical problems posed by the lack of a nearby mainland access to Burton Island led to the acquisition of Kamp Kill Kare, a former boy's camp at the tip of St. Albans Point, in 1967. Kamp Kill Kare State Park provides support facilities for Burton Island, including parking lots, a boat ramp and the ferry dock and breakwater. Kamp Kill Kare is a day use park with a swimming beach, picnic area and group shelter. Renovated in 1982, the 1870’s-era railroad resort hotel on the grounds now includes staff housing and public rest rooms. The first floor lobby includes historic photos of both parks.

There are 17 tent sites and 26 lean-to sites plus 15 boat moorings and a 100-slip marina with Wi-Fi (wireless internet) connection, dockside electricity, fuel service, and a marine holding-tank pumpout facility. This, with ferry service to the island (no vehicles) from Kamp Kill Kare, makes Burton Island one of the most unique parks in Vermont. Rest rooms have running water and hot showers ($). There are 3 miles of shoreline, hiking trails, a nature center/museum, park store and food service, rowboat and canoe rentals, and places to swim and picnic. Gear delivery to your site can be arranged for $10/each way.

Burton Island camping reservations:

Unlike other parks, reservations for Burton Island campsites open up eleven months in advance on the 15th of the month or the first business day thereafter. We do this so that we can devote all our energies to serving Burton customers on these busy days.

Kill Kare State Park, St. Albans Bay, Burton Island- Stunning 4K Video Drone Flyover: Summer in VT

Kill Kare is a hidden gem. Nestled where St. Alban's Bay joins Lake Champlain, Kill Kare has spectacular views of Burton Island, North Hero, Grand Isle, and more in the distance.

My sister was up for a visit and we decided to chase this sunset. It was fun driving with her and being able to spend precious time together. We stayed in the park past closing time and the guard was very upset with us. I feel really bad but can you blame us? We got swept away with the beauty of this majestic sunset. Please accept this video as our apology! This video is for you.

I flew my Mavic 2 Pro for this shoot. I'm getting better controlling it manually. The weather was perfect and we were treated to a gorgeous sunset. I also used a GoPro 10 Hero Black for the ground shots. The two time lapses were the first I've ever shot. I'm pleased with the outcome and will make more.

I loved how crisp the 4K video came out. Come visit this area as it truly is a unique and beautiful place. I love seeing it from a different perspective! Don't forget to like and subscribe below to help support this channel. Thanks for watching!

York, England walking tour with Warwick Burton

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
We had the privilege and honor of taking a walk through the little alleys of York, England with a truly great tour guide, Warwick Burton of YORKWALK. His native knowledge and sense of humor made this an wonderful experience. We walked through tiny lanes that most visitors would miss, but this became the highlight of the city for us. Thank you Warwick.
After strolling through countless little lanes, we have a look at the Shambles in the narrow, quaint shopping lane becomes crowded during the day but was nearly empty when we walked through in late afternoon. The Shambles is so narrow they say it's possible for neighbors to reach out across the street from their second-story homes and shake hands. You'll probably come back to it several times as you wander through the town, but you will find the best time to enjoy the Shambles and get an uncluttered photo is early morning or evening, when the shops are closed and the crowd is absent.
Warwick will be greatly missed by his many friends and former travellers, but the company he founded 30 years ago, YORKWALKS, will continue providing a rich variety of walking and coach tours in York and the surroundings.

Lake Burton, Rabun County, Clayton, Georgia, United States, North America

Lake Burton is a 2,775 acre (11.23 km²) reservoir with 62 miles (100 km) of shoreline located in the northeastern corner of Georgia in Rabun County. It is the first lake in a six-lake series called the Tallulah River Watershed that follows the original course of the Tallulah River. The chain begins with Lake Burton as the northernmost lake followed by Lake Seed, Lake Rabun, Lake Tallulah Falls, Lake Tugalo, and Lake Yonah. The lakes are owned and operated by the Georgia Power Company to generate hydroelectric energy for Georgia's largest city, Atlanta. At one time these lakes were the largest producers of electricity in the state of Georgia. At present the lakes provide power only during periods of peak electricity consumption. The lake was built in a deep valley located along a 10 mile (16 km) section of the Tallulah River. The Lake Burton Dam was closed on December 22, 1919 and the lake started to fill. The dam is a gravity concrete dam, with a height of 128 feet (39 m) and a span of 1,100 feet (340 m). The spillway is equipped with eight gates 22 feet (6.7 m) wide by 6.6 feet (2.0 m) high. The total capacity at an elevation of 1,866.6 feet (568.9 m) is 108,000 acre·ft (133,000,000 m3), of which 106,000 acre·ft (131,000,000 m3) is usable storage. The generating capacity of the dam is 6,120 kilowatts (two units). Lake Burton is the highest Georgia Power lake in Georgia. Lake Burton's name was derived from the town of Burton, which was the second largest town in Rabun County with a population of approximately 200. The former town now lies below the lake's surface. The town (and the lake) was named after local prominent citizen Jeremiah Burton and was situated along the road from Clayton, Georgia to the Nacoochee Valley. Andrew Jackson Ritchie served as the postmaster for the area for several years. Gold was first discovered in Rabun County where Dicks Creek and the Tallulah River come together and was the reason for the town's founding in the early 19th century. The Lake Burton Fish Hatchery and Moccasin Creek State Park are located on the lake's west side. The lake is home to several species of fish, including spotted bass, largemouth bass, white bass, black crappie, bluegill, redear sunfish, white catfish, walleye, brown trout, rainbow trout, and yellow perch. The residents of Lake Burton are a mix of permanent residents and seasonal vacationers who together make-up the Lake Burton Civic Association, a local organization who goal is to maintain the lake through volunteer clean-ups and other such events. Fourth of July fireworks at Lake Burton have been an annual tradition for more than 25 years. The fireworks display was begun and continues to be run by a lifelong Lake Burton resident, Hal Rhoad. Though not a Lake Burton Civic Association sponsored event, the July 4th fireworks display is funded by donations from Lake Burton area residents and visitors. The fireworks are set off the Saturday before July 4 from Billy Goat Island, an island on the south side of the lake. Most people view the fireworks from boats driven near the island. As Lake Burton is set in the Appalachian Mountains the fireworks echo off the surrounding mountains, providing another auditory level to the visual feast of the fireworks. The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta operates its primary campus of Camp High Harbour near the headwaters of Lake Burton. This facility is the site of summer residential camps, leadership programs and youth retreats. A severe tornado struck Lake Burton on April 28, 2011. Among those killed was the Atlanta businessman E. Earl Patton, a former member of the Georgia State Senate.
