If you’re into learning about world religions, you’ll hit the jackpot in Thailand.
In this video we present you with 10 of the most stunning temples in all of Thailand.

Thailand is filled with magnificent Buddhist temples, some dating back centuries, others much, much younger.

There are temples in Thailand made out of wood, stone and even recycled beer bottles, but their grandeur is something to behold.

1. Sanctuary of Truth.
The Sanctuary of Truth in Pattaya gives new meaning to the word “impressive.”
Intricate carvings cover every inch of the wood structure, which is filled with traditional Buddhist and Hindu decorations.
It is a newer temple, a work in progress, as it began in 1981 and is scheduled to be completed in 2050.

2. Wat Phra That Lampang Luang.
Wat Phra That Lampang Luang is one of the most sacred temples in Thailand, home to a strand of Buddha’s hair.
It also is considered one of the best examples of Lanna architecture.

3. Temple of a Million Bottles.
The Temple of a Million Bottles (Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew) isn’t your usual Buddhist temple, indeed, it is one of the more unique temples you’ll find in Thailand.
The complex incorporates about 1.5 million recycled glass bottles in its design. Mainly green Heineken and brown Chang bottles are used
and bottle caps are used to create mosaics.

4. Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
The Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) may be misnamed, because the only thing in common with Buddha and emerald is, the colour green.
The 66-centimeters (26-inch) high Buddha is made of jasper or jade.
Still, it occupies a place of honour in this temple on the Grand Palace grounds.
The Buddha, which is clad in gold, is believed to date back to the 15th century.

5. Wat Mahathat, Sukhothai.
Wat Mahathat, located in northern Thailand’s Sukhothai Historical Park, is an ancient temple that is considered the park’s most important and impressive temple.
There are 168 sculptures of Buddhist disciples with hands clasped which decorate the base of the main stupa, which was built to contain the relics which belonged to Buddha.

6. Wat Arun.
Wat Arun is known as the Temple of Dawn, but it might just as easily be known as the Temple of Magnificence.
This temple, which overlooks the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, is nothing short of spectacular when it’s lit up against the night sky.

7. Wat Chaiwatthanaram.
Wat Chaiwatthanaram is an awesome temple complex in Ayutthaya, which is known as the ancient capital of Thailand.
It was built to honour the king’s mother and this temple is the most visited site in Ayutthaya.
Wat Chaiwatthanaram is situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, but even though the scenic river is beautiful, it is no match for this temple.

8. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is one of the must-sees when you’re visiting Chiang Mai.
It's one of the most sacred temples in Northern Thailand. The temple’s name is often refered to as Doi Suthep, although, this is actually the name of the mountain it’s located on.
The temple, about 15 km (10 miles) from Chiang Mai, and is still a working Buddhist monastery that was built in the 14th century.
The top of the temple is decorated with a golden spire, surrounded by shrines.
9. Temple of the Reclining Buddha.

Bangkok’s Temple of the Reclining Buddha is home the largest collection of Buddhas in Thailand, including a reclining Buddha that is 45 meters (150 feet) long.
It's built on an island next to The Grand Palace, and this temple complex is considered to be the best of the royal temples.
Wat Pho is one of Bangkok’s oldest temples and is considered the birthplace of Thai massage.
An early centre for public education, walls are decorated with inscriptions on various subjects.

10. White Temple.
The White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) is a gorgeous gingerbread creation that is one of the newest temples in Thailand, being built in 1997.
Reminiscent of a fairy tale castle covered with snow, you could imagine this being home to a ferocious ogre.
A highlight of this privately-owned temple is the bridge of the cycle of rebirth, under which outstretched hands reach for the sky.
Across the bridge is the Gate of Heaven where two creatures decide the fate of the dead.

So, there you have it, 10 of the most amazing temples in Thailand.
If you are visiting Thailand, make sure you check them out.

TERRIFIED at Thailand's Most Dangerous Temple - Wat Phu Tok in Bueng Kan - Isan Thailand Travel Vlog

Book a bus to Bueng Kan here then rent a motorbike or taxi:

In this Isan Thailand Travel Vlog, we head to Bueng Kan - the northern most province in Isan, Thailand! After taking a minibus to Bueng Kan from Udon Thani, we were able to rent a motorbike in Bueng Kan to start our adventure to Wat Phu Tok.
Wat Phu Tok is the most dangerous temple in Thailand and probably all of Asia!!! Before arriving we were SO excited to visit this temple! In fact, Wat Phu Tok had been on our list of places we wanted to go for over a year! Wat Phu Tok has 7 levels that wrap up around a mountain. There are 7 levels to represent the 7 factors of enlightenment in Buddhism.
The first couple levels were very easy. Once we started going to the 4th level, there were 2 different paths you could take. We decided to split up so we could see both paths. The left path was really cool and went through part of a cave while the right path was up some very steep stairs. We met at the top and then took the path that went around the right side.....
This is when it started to get sketchy!!! The end of the 5th level of Wat Phu Tok, up to the top, was along crazy wooden paths on the side of a cliff. We thought we were prepared for this, but we were NOT!! We both got vertigo and were terrified at how high it was! Which was made even worse by the fact that we didn't see anyone else the entire way up! We finally reached the top and were able to find the flags at the very top of Wat Phu Tok.
On the way down we realized there was a different way you could take to get to the top which avoided the scary paths on the side of the cliff!! You can take this 'easy' way if you get left where the first path split meets as opposed to right like we did.
Even though this was scary, it's definitely the most unique temple we have ever been to and a MUST SEE if you're in Isan Thailand or especially in Bueng Kan province.

[DRONE] The Navel of the Mekong, Bueng Kan | Thailand | Traveller | Alissa Stehlin

The Navel of the Mekong is where it's believed the mythical Naga resides. It is also apparently the deepest section of the 4,350 km river which runs along China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Thailand's Most DANGEROUS Temple ????????

We drove all the way from Nakhon Phanom to Bueng Kan to visit Wat phu tok, a place i've always wanted to visit!

We drove from Bueng khong long to wat phu tok which took 40 minutes and at 6:30AM was absolutely freezing. I only had shorts and a T shirt in my bag and felt like a right idiot!

On arrival we were given free coffee and fried bread with condensed milk because it was new year. After enjoying these we headed to the start of the trail at the bottom of the mountain.

After only heading up for about 10 minutes the views were crazy beautiful, we knew this was going to be super special.

Essentially wat phu tok is a temple built into a huge monolith here in the bueng kan province of Isan, the monks here built 7 levels of walkways that run around the mountain 360 degrees, the 7 levels stand for the 7 steps to buddhist enlightenment.

As we got to level 5 things got scary! the walkways are super creaky and literally bolted into the side of the cliff, at the same time though the views over the Isan countryside are just stunning so you forget about what your standing on.

We then walked around level 6 which was the most thrilling of them all, this is surely thailand's most dangerous temple this level will really test your fears! Above this was level 7 which we checked out but there is not much going on other than thick jungle and venomous snakes!

At the bottom the freebies were still flowing! There was free water, free lunch and also free thai coffee and tea! This was so nice and everybody was in an amazing mood, the people here were some of the friendliest we have met in thailand.

For me wat phu tok is the ultimate hidden gem of Isan northeast Thailand we absolutely loved it and was well worth driving all the way from nakhon phanom just to visit!

The Three Whales Rock (Hin Sam Wan) is a 75 million-year-old rock formation discovered in 2014 in Bueng Kan Province, which is also the newest province in Thailand. Upon arriving, there will be a photographer taking a photo of you that will be framed and available for purchase.
