Über fast 100 Kilometer verbindet der Nord-Ostsee-Kanal die Nordsee und die Ostsee. Mein liebster Aussichtspunkt am Kanal um Schiffe zu gucken ist FISCHERHÜTTE. Hier gibt es eine Fähre und einen kleinen Imbiss.

Kiel | The Port city of Germany | Schleswig-Holstein

Kiel (German: [kiːl] (About this soundlisten)) is the capital and most populous city in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein, with a population of 249,023 (2016).

Kiel lies approximately 90 kilometres (56 mi) north of Hamburg. Due to its geographic location in the north of Germany, the southeast of the Jutland peninsula and the southwestern shore of the Baltic Sea, Kiel has become one of the major maritime centres of Germany. For instance, the city is known for a variety of international sailing events, including the annual Kiel Week, which is the biggest sailing event in the world. Kiel is also known within modern history for the Kiel Mutiny, where German sailors refused to board Navy vessels in protest against Germany's continued fighting in World War I which led to the abdication of the Kaiser and the formation of the Weimar Republic. The Olympic sailing competitions of the 1936 and the 1972 Summer Olympics were held in the Bay of Kiel.[4]

Kiel has also been one of the traditional homes of the German Navy's Baltic fleet, and continues to be a major high-tech shipbuilding centre. Located in Kiel is the GEOMAR - Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel at the University of Kiel. Kiel is an important sea transport hub, thanks to its location on the Kiel Fjord (Kieler Förde) and the busiest artificial waterway in the world[citation needed], Kiel Canal (Nord-Ostsee-Kanal). A number of passenger ferries to Sweden, Norway, Lithuania and other countries operate from here. Moreover, today Port of Kiel is a popular desination for cruise ships touring the Baltic Sea.

Kiel's recorded history began in the 13th century, but the city was originally a Danish village, in the 8th century. Until 1864 it was administered by Denmark in personal union. In 1866 the city was annexed by Prussia and in 1871 it became part of Germany.

Kiel was one of the founding cities of the original European Green Capital Award in 2006.[5] In 2005 Kiel's GDP per capita was €35,618, which is well above Germany's national average, and 159% of the European Union's average.

The history of the port of Hamburg describes the development of the port from a landing place at the mouth of the Bille to the Alster in Hamburg's old town in the 9th century, with port rights from 1189, to an Alster port in the 16th century; to a port on the Elbe with numerous docks in the 19th century and further downstream to a so-called world port to the west.

In accordance with this development, the port image has repeatedly undergone fundamental changes: as an Alster port, it had continuously expanded over the centuries and with the relocation to the Elbe, its expansion grew many times over within decades. In 1860, the picture was still characterized by densely packed sailing ships and a few steamers on the city side of the North Elbe, the transshipment took place with the ship's own loading gear onto poled port vehicles, dock workers worked on the quays with handcarts and Schottschen carts as well as hand cranes and winches. In 1910, steamships had supplanted freighters, and general cargo was handled in deeper and deeper harbor basins on ever-expanding quays using steam and electric cranes. Since the 1970s, container ships and almost completely automated handling have dominated the scene, and port activity has shifted down the Elbe, where marshland and fishing villages used to be. The port areas close to the city center have become industrial wasteland, for which the city is looking for new uses.

Hier passiert der 205 Meter lange und 26 Meter breite Frachter TIMCA die Nord-Ostsee-Kanal Schleuse in Kiel. Die TIMCA (IMO: 9307358, MMSI: 246521000) ist Ro-Ro Frachtschiff und wurde im Jahr 2006 gebaut. Das Schiff fährt unter niederländischer Flagge.

Was könnte schöner sein, als die meistbefahrene, künstliche Wasserstraße der Welt hautnah zu erleben. Oft hatte ich die Gelegenheit mit einem Schiff eine Kanalpassage zu machen. Meine Eindrücke und Erlebnisse habe ich filmerisch festgehalten. 2:11Minuten aus meinem -26 Minuten- Film.
