Places to see in ( Rochester - USA )

Places to see in ( Rochester - USA )

Rochester is a city on Lake Ontario, in New York State. Old industrial buildings cluster near the Genesee River’s High Falls. A vast collection of toys and dolls forms the core of the Strong National Museum of Play. The George Eastman Museum, on the early-1900s estate of the Kodak founder, has photography exhibits, film archives and gardens. Rochester Museum & Science Center has hands-on displays and a planetarium.

Big-city culture and small-city charm combine in Rochester, a mid-sized city on the shores of Lake Ontario. The birthplace of amateur photography, Rochester has long been known as Kodak Town, but its fame was established well before George Eastman came on the scene. Today, its historical treasures complement modern family-friendly attractions that rival those found in much larger communities.

In Rochester, you can find the only museum in the world dedicated to play; award-winning music, dance, and acting ensembles; a dense festival calendar covering nearly every weekend of the year; minor-league sports of the highest caliber; and a trio of majestic waterfalls right in the middle of the city. The gateway to the scenic and culinary delights of New York's Finger Lakes region, Rochester is the perfect place to begin your exploration of Western New York.

Rochester, known as The Flower City and The World's Image Center, is the third-largest city in the state of New York, after New York City and Buffalo. Lake Ontario lies to its north, with the Genesee River flowing northward through the city and over a set of three waterfalls. The historic Erie Canal also runs along the city's borders.

Rochester isn't the most popular place for sightseeing, although the Genesee River gorge and its three waterfalls are certainly worth a trip. For nature lovers, the most scenic of the city's parks is probably Highland Park, although Genesee Valley Park has more recreation options.

Rochester does have a good number of cultural attractions, though, especially for a city of its size. The most prominent of these is the Strong National Museum of Play, absolutely a can't-miss attraction if you have young kids with you. History buffs will want to stop by the Susan B. Anthony Museum & House, a mecca for students of the women's rights movement. And fans of photography will be awe-struck by the collections at the George Eastman House.

Rochester is a city of small neighborhoods. Most center on one or two main streets and are no more than 5 to 10 blocks in length. The East End, High Falls and Corn Hill are all considered downtown, though each is at a different end. Most of the rest of the popular neighborhoods are on the southeast side. Neighborhood of the Arts, East Ave, Park Ave, and Monroe Village are fairly well connected to each other, but are separated from Swillburg and South Wedge on the other side of route 490. The Public Market is near Neighborhood of the Arts, but East Main still needs a lot of work to connect the two. Charlotte is northwest about a fifteen minute drive from center city.

The flagship festival is, of course, the Lilac Festival, which has been drawing visitors from out of town to Highland Park for over a century. Newer, but no less popular, is the Rochester International Jazz Festival, which has quickly grown into one of the world's top music festivals. Less well-known outside of Rochester is the Park Ave Fest, but it epitomizes the local festival scene and shouldn't be missed if you're in town that weekend.

( Rochester - USA ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Rochester . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Rochester - USA

Is Rochester New York worth visiting? (Exploring New York's third largest city) ????????

A huge waterfall in the city center? Rochester is definitely one of a kind!

New York State's third largest city is notorious for its crime and rough, gritty exterior (I can't count how many episodes of COPS have been filmed here). However, dig beneath the surface (note: during the daytime) and you'll find a city that exudes a ton of charm. With the stunning High Falls cascading right in the heart of downtown next to one of America's best breweries, you don't have to look far in order to have a great time here. Yes, downtown is sketchy - my experiences can confirm that - but pop into Java's Cafe and you'll barely notice. Does it have its problems? Absolutely. But it's still well worth a visit!

SMALL DOWNTOWNS in Upstate New York PART 2

Here's another couple minutes' worth of randomly selected small towns, villages, and cities in upstate New York.
Here's part 1, uploaded in 2018:

Village of Brockport, New York - Monroe County

Brockport is a village in the Town of Sweden, with two tiny portions in the Town of Clarkson, in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 7,104 at the 2020 U.S. Census. The name is derived from Heil Brockway, an early settler. It is also home to SUNY Brockport.

The Village of Brockport is roughly 20 miles (32 km) west of the City of Rochester, in the western end of Monroe County. The village is north of the junction of New York State Route 19 (north-south) and New York State Route 31 (east-west) on the Town of Sweden's northern line.

Brockport calls itself The Victorian Village on the Erie Canal. Brockport recently remodeled the village portion of the Erie Canal, providing a bricked walkway, a brand new canal visitor's center, and several pieces of art.

Introduction: Hello, Rochester! - Day Trips Around Rochester, New York

Introduction: Hello, Rochester!
Find a bookseller at

As the founder and creative director of Day Trips Around Rochester, New York, I am excited to share with you some of the most memorable places to explore in Rochester and the Finger Lakes region. These are places that have made a lasting impression on me, and I hope they will do the same for you. Whether you’re a local looking for something new to do, or a visitor looking to make the most of your time in the area, I’m confident that you’ll find something here that will enhance your experience and create lasting memories. So come along with me and discover the hidden gems of Rochester and the surrounding area.

While much of the information provided here can also be found on my website, daytrippingroc.com, I created the book for those who prefer spending more time offline or reading books to browsing websites. Whether you are new to Rochester or a lifelong resident looking to discover more about the city, this book is for you.

I hope to inspire exploration, appreciation, preservation, and conservation of our natural and human communities. By making a deeper connection with Rochester, you will gain more curiosity and empathy for the diverse people, cultures, and perspectives that make our city remarkable.

I am in no way affiliated with the places I recommend, but based on personal experience, input from the Day Trips Around Rochester community, and trusted sources for ratings and reviews, I genuinely believe you will find something to enjoy at each place mentioned in the pages that follow.

General Ideas

If you want to change your perspective to inspire creative thoughts and ideas, try taking a leisurely walk or drive without a specific destination. Here are some suggestions:

Change your usual commute and explore a different route.

Walk through a historic district or vibrant neighborhood, such as South Wedge, Corn Hill, Four Corners, or Neighborhood of the Arts.

Wander through a walkable village, such as Fairport or Brockport, and spend a few hours exploring the local history, shops, parks, and restaurants.

Admire the beautiful mansions along East Avenue and learn about their early beginnings.

Bring a chair or find a bench to sit on and observe your surroundings, or sit in a bar or café and enjoy a casual conversation with others.

Find a roadside waterfall, such as Honeoye Falls or the Churchville Dam, and listen to the soothing sound of rushing water.

Visit all 31 libraries in the Monroe County Library System. Each one offers unique amenities and is in a different neighborhood, providing plenty of opportunities for exploration.

Stroll along Park Avenue and ask yourself questions about what you observe, such as “Why is the road curved between Vick Park A and Vick Park B?”

Fun fact: Park Avenue curves between Vick Park A and B because they were initially the straightaways of a horse-racing track, with this section of Park Avenue serving as the bend.

Helpful Tips

Visit daytrippingroc.com/resources for additional information, including maps, photos, and links to each location’s website.

Borrow an Empire Pass or a Very Important Places (VIP) Pass from any Monroe County Library with your library card, free for Monroe County residents. The Empire Pass offers free admission and parking at most state parks in New York. Alternatively, you can purchase an Empire Pass at parks.ny.gov. The VIP Pass offers reduced admission fees at many of our local museums. And look for museums that offer reduced prices on special nights, like half-price Thursday evenings at the Memorial Art Gallery.

Before you go, know the hours of operation for any specific activities or places you’d like to visit. Keep in mind that small businesses, restaurants, and bakeries may be closed on Sundays and Mondays, and some shops close by 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Personal safety is paramount. Don’t let other people’s fears stop you from exploring, but do your research and make sure you feel comfortable. Only explore remote or less popular destinations alone if you are intentional about solo venturing and trekking. Be aware of your surroundings and listen to your instincts.

How to Use This Guide

Assuming you’re standing at State and Main in downtown Rochester, the following is a breakdown of rough drive times from that location:

City of Rochester: under 10 minutes

Monroe County: under 30 minutes

Greater Rochester: within 30–90 minutes, includes Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates Counties

Surrounding Counties: within two hours, a select few within three hours, includes Allegany, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Erie, Niagara, Onondaga, Oswego, and Tompkins Counties, to name a few
