10 Best place to visit in Braunfels Germany

Day Trip to New Braunfels ???? (FULL EPISODE) S7 E10

Many know this town for the slip and slides of Schlitterbahn, but that’s just one slice of this German town. A passion for the past mixed with many new adventures await you in a town that will make your day trip truly das beste. (P.S. - It's pronounced New BRAUN-FULS)

One can’t mention New Braunfels without mentioning the famous Comal River. At 2 miles long, it’s the shortest river in Texas and perfect for an afternoon float. The most popular place to start your float is Prince Solms Park. Grab your tube, your beverage of choice, and hop in. While most of this river is slow moving, the city tube shoot near the beginning will give you all the whitewater you can handle and has been known to flip many a floater. You might want to hold onto your stuff, or else be prepared to make an involuntary donation to the river depths.

For a more adrenaline-pumping experience, head to the Texas Ski Ranch, where you can learn to wakeboard without a boat. Just grab a board and hold on tight as a cable-system pulls you around a circular lake. My advice for first timers: watch out for the turns, and be prepared to spend more time under the water than on top of it!

To start your day, visit Naegelin’s Bakery, the oldest bakery in Texas dating back to 1868. The fresh baked goods are made with age-old German recipes. The apple strudel is amazing and the old-fashioned German cookies like “spingerles” and “Pfeffernusses” will have you thinking you’re back in the motherland.

If you’re looking to add a little spice to your day, then stop by the Phoenix Saloon, a chili parlor housed in the building where chili powder was invented in 1894. They serve it the Texan way (read: the right way), as every bowl of chili is served bean-free with chunks of sirloin and lots of spice. Be warned, the “ring of fire” bowl requires a waiver. They’ve also got burgers and sandwiches for all those who don’t like chili (if that’s even possible…)

The best way to learn about the German roots of New Braunfels and Prince Carl, the German Prince who settled the area, is to visit the Sophienburg Museum. Here, you’ll see tons of German artifacts like a life-size model of the ship that families took to arrive in Texas.

Another place that is historic in its own right, and one of America’s most iconic roadside attractions, is Snake Farm (cue the Ray Wiley Hubbard). This zoo sits right on the highway and has been curing snake fears since 1967. They’ve got a wide range of the world’s creepiest snakes from Black Mambas to Rattlers and Cobras. If snakes aren’t your thing, step outside to an incredible zoo with lions, hyenas, and more. Don’t miss the weekly gator feedings. CHOMP!

Top 5 Things to Do in Gruene - 4K Travel Guide

Gruene, Texas has so many fun things to do! This small town lies within New Braunfels and is a hot place for shopping, live music, great restaurants and relaxing times. Come see why so many people travel to this great town!

I'm Michael Johnson with Film Compass, and I grew up very near Gruene. Whether it's dancing at Gruene Hall, eating at the Gristmill River Restaurant, sipping on wine or relaxing on the Guadalupe River - this town will keep you busy no matter the time of year. If a trip to New Braunfels is already on your agenda then you have to come see the Gruene Historic District.

Chapters

00:00 Intro
00:31 Shopping
02:51 Restaurants
04:17 Live Music
04:57 Wine
05:25 Tubing

1. Shopping
There’s many things to do in Gruene but the first on my list is touring the town to see all the shops like the Gruene General Store. This store is home to so many interesting gifts, delectable treats and tasty ice cream. As soon as you leave the store you’ll see Gruene Antique Company right across the street. This store is full of unique items from all over the world.

For the avid outdoorsmen there’s Gruene Outfitters that’ll get you set up with fashionable outdoor wear and amazing fly fishing gear. Right behind the Gruene Antique Company is a pottery shop called The Barn. This shop has an amazing inventory of homemade pottery.

2. Restaurants
Once you’ve shopped around it might be time to grab a bite to eat in one of Gruene’s restaurants like the Gristmill River Restaurant and Bar. This restaurant used to be an old cotton gin but it now serves up amazing hamburgers and award winning chicken fried steak. Just feet away from the Gristmill is Cantina Del Rio which serves up award winning margaritas.

3. Live Music
One of the funnest things to do in New Braunfels and this small town is see the live music at Gruene Hall. People come from all over Texas to see the famous country singers that frequent this hall. George Strait and Willie Nelson are just a few of the famous singers that have sung at Gruene Hall many times throughout the years. It’s a great dance hall to check out on your next trip here.

However, it isn’t the only place in this historic town to see live music. You’ll frequently see pop up bands all over Gruene on a Saturday or Sunday strumming away at their guitars.

4. Wine
Another notable mention on the list of things to do in Gruene, Texas is relaxing on the porch of The Grapevine or chilling on the garden of Winery on the Gruene as you sip on fruit infused wine. Each of these wineries are home to amazing wines. The Grapevine features new wines every week while the fruit infused wine at Winery on the Gruen will keep you coming back after satisfying those taste buds.

5. Tubing
Last but certainly not least is enjoying an amazing time tubing the Guadalupe River that runs right through Gruene. Many frequent this small town not to just stay dry and shop but for this river tubing adventure. Experience small rapids and a chill atmosphere as you gaze upon the tall cypress trees that line the banks of the Guadalupe.

That’s everything - I hope you enjoyed this Gruene Travel Guide and that you’ll come see this amazing small town that resides in New Braunfels some day.

New Braunfels, Texas | 28 Fantastic Facts

Enjoying German Food and Culture at Wurstfest in New Braunfels Texas!

On a whim Tina and I decided to head down to New Braunfels Texas and get in on some German Food and culture. It did not disappoint! Parking was a little difficult and costed me 20 bucks, but it was worth it! Pretty much you can get anything on a stick and fried at Wurstfest. I had never seen so many sausages and turkey legs in one place. Not only did the look good but they tasted delicious. Tina and fried chicken on a stick and I gobbled down a jalapeño and cheese sausage. I followed that up with probably the best fried pickles I have had in a long time and some bread pudding. The music added to the German theme and guest were dressed in Germanic clothes. I will say we and a pretty dang good time and Wurstfest and look forward to visiting it again next year! Thanks for watching and ENJOY!!! :)
