The Dark Side of Living in The Netherlands
What are the downsides of living in the Netherlands? There is a wide variety of advantages that come along with relocating to the Netherlands. The Netherlands is a country that has a lot to offer everybody, whether they are searching for a higher standard of life, more work prospects, or a location to live that is cheaper. Let's not sugarcoat things and have an honest conversation about some of the challenges you could face if you decide to relocate to the Netherlands.
1. It’s an expensive country
The Netherlands is well-known for having some of the highest tax rates in the world, and almost everything is subject to taxation. The income tax is particularly high in contrast to those of other countries in Europe. You could also discover that the prices of electronic goods are higher in the Netherlands (here's a pro tip: shop on the German Amazon), and that the prices of some foods are also a little bit more. On the other hand, it is possible to acquire some excellent prices if you have learned how to shop and where to shop. The relationship between supply and demand is to blame for the typically high cost of rent throughout the whole of the United States. Jobs, in general, pay very well here; yet, in the end, it all comes down to how you look at it.
2. You have to learn a new language
Even though most Dutch people are aware of this fact, conversational English is not sufficient. You are going to need to educate yourself in Dutch since the majority of the labels, notices, goods, and parcels are all in Dutch. You are going to have to utilize Google Translate whenever you go to public locations like the grocery or railway stations until you master the local language.
It is well known that the service sector in the Netherlands is notorious for being less helpful and more difficult to navigate than in other nations. Even if someone has been downright impolite to us extremely seldom, the Dutch aren't exactly famed for their ability to provide good customer service.
You are either going to have to wait an eternity to speak to the manager, you are going to be in a line of 25 people on the phone, or you are going to have to wait weeks for a response to an email. Not to mention the level of frustration that a good number of individuals experience whenever they are confronted with tasks such as receiving mail or shipments.
3. Accommodation
Insane housing shortages are plaguing the Netherlands at the moment. As a result, it is essential to do apartment hunting in advance of relocating to this location for permanent residence. There are both furnished and unfurnished apartments available to choose. The furnished homes come with very huge rent prices. When you rent a property that isn't equipped, you may think you're getting a good deal, but in reality, you have to buy everything, even rugs and appliances that are necessary. In addition, property owners are reaping the benefits of the housing shortage by charging their renters unreasonable prices.
Due to the unfortunate state of affairs in the housing market in the Netherlands, it is essential that you begin your search for a new place to call home at the earliest possible date. Bear in mind that there are no assurances that you will locate a location right away; yet, you should not give up hope!
If you want to live in Amsterdam or one of the other cities in the Randstad, you need be extremely patient in your hunt for a new house, and you should prepare for a little bit of more wiggle space in your budget.

Day trip in Cuijk
Cuijk is a town in the northeastern part of the province of North Brabant, Netherlands. It is the successor of a Roman settlement on the west bank of the Meuse, 13 km south of Nijmegen. The name Cuijk seems to be derived from the Celtic Keukja, meaning curve or bend. This refers to a bend in the Meuse near Cuijk. The Romans transformed Keukja to Ceuclum, leading to the later Dutch name Cuijk.

Wij zijn Pieter en Marieke en sinds 2015 varen we met onze motorboot de Canicula door Nederland. Tijdens onze eerste vaartocht door Overijssel vallen we van de ene verbazing in de andere. Over de imposante bebouwing van Vollenhove, de massieve zeesluis van Blokzijl, het dijkdorp Kuinre. Geweldig! Inmiddels zijn we bijna heel Nederland door gevaren. Om iedereen te laten zien hoe mooi Nederland is vanaf het water, maken we video's van onze vaartochten en schrijven we artikelen over wat we allemaal tegenkomen onderweg. De Canicula is een St. Tropez cabincruiser van negen meter lang, tachtig centimeter diep en ruim twee meter hoog.

New Amsterdam Travel Video- De Maasduinen National Park is the longest belt of river dunes in the Netherlands, running north and south of the east side of the Maas River. At 45km2, its dunes, forests and lakes make it a top destination for both nature and sports lovers. There are also meadows of heather which explode in different shades of purple and pink when they bloom between the end of August and the beginning of September. The park lies southeast of Nijmegen in Limburg near the German border. From Amsterdam, it's a 2 hour car ride. Going by train is possible via Nijmegen to towns like Boxmeer or Venray; from there you can take a bus or rent a bike.

Schiphol Airport Railway Station, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. 02/10/22
Schiphol Airport railway station (previously Schiphol Schiphol aircraft silhouette.svg until 12 December 2015) is a major passenger railway station in Haarlemmermeer, Netherlands. It is located directly beneath the terminal complex of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and is operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen. The station's six platforms are accessible via twelve escalators and three elevators located in the main concourse of the airport (Schiphol Plaza). The original station was opened in 1978, and the current station was opened in 1995. It connects the airport to Amsterdam and to various other cities in the Netherlands, as well as to Belgium and France.
The original railway station at Schiphol was partly at street level and opened on 21 December 1978.
Initially passengers could only travel as far as Amsterdam's Zuid WTC and RAI stations, as well as south bound towards Leiden, The Hague and Rotterdam. For travel to Amsterdam Centraal station passenger had to travel to RAI and transfer to a local tram. A direct link was created with the construction of the Amsterdam-Schiphol railway in 1986.
A newly built underground station opened in 1995, the former building was demolished. As Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which surrounds the railway station, is the largest airport within the Netherlands and the primary international gateway, Schiphol railway station changed into a major hub in the Dutch railway network.
The station was renamed Schiphol Airport on 13 December 2015 to make the station more recognizable to international travellers.
Schiphol stations offers several trains per hour to Amsterdam Centraal, and frequent services to the rest of the country as well. These include intercity services to Leiden, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Eindhoven, Amersfoort, Almere, Lelystad, Apeldoorn, Deventer, Enschede, Groningen, Leeuwarden, Nijmegen and Zwolle.
During night-time, an hourly service connects Schiphol with Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam, Delft, Leiden and The Hague between 1am and 5am.
The Thalys, Intercity Direct and Intercity Brussels call at Schiphol railway station. These trains connect the airport to Rotterdam, Breda, Antwerp, Brussels Airport, Brussels and Paris.
Reservations are obligatory to board Thalys. For Intercity direct to Breda a supplement is required for the High Speed stretch to Rotterdam.
There are several types of train series in the Netherlands:
Intercity direct These are Intercity Services using the high speed network.
Intercity These are express trains calling at major stations. The fastest type of regular train in the Netherlands.
Sprinters These are trains calling at all stations and mostly are operated by SGMm, SNG or SLT 'Sprinter' train sets.

For those unfamiliar with with the ferry between Rødby and Puttgarden. It is not necessary to book a ticket before arrival. I just drove up and said I wanted a single trip ticket and that's it. I haven't looked into any price difference in regard to prebooked tickets.
However within a decade these ferries will be a relic of the past due to the construction of the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link.
