BOONVILLE - Cycling USA (Ep9) - Bicycle Touring Across America Documentary - Western Missouri
Steep hills on the south side of the Missouri River test my climbing ability. Once again I get caught up in mid western storms as I ride my way into Boonville, Missouri. The Katy Trail treats me to more magical riding time but I eventually decide to leave it and get myself into trouble/adventure with Interstate 70. Getting detoured in farm roads makes me end up with my longest day of riding yet. Nestled high in the Appalachian Mountains you'll find a small mountain town rife with outdoor adventure; Boone, NC.
This episode hits a bit different.
Boone was our home town before we left on the road in 2019 to travel full time in an RV. So naturally, we were elated to be able to spend two weeks hitting our favorite hiking spots, while also bidding a final farewell to our mountain cabin.

Boonville, MO | A 4K City Walking Tour
Boonville, MO is a great place to wander around. A Missouri river city full of charm and beauty, it is home to beautiful parks and well-preserved historic landmarks. In the early 1800’s Daniel Boone’s sons, Nathan and Daniel Morgan, came upon the salt lick in present-day Howard County, just across the river from today’s Boonville. Recognizing the value of salt for pioneers, the Boone brothers settled and opened shop, thus the original Boone’s Lick or Boonslick name. In 1810 widow Hannah Cole and her nine children homesteaded the Boonslick area. The town was formally platted in 1817 and prospered in the late 1820’s. Throughout the 1820’s and 30’s the town was home to river trade and a jumping-off point for the Santa Fe Trail. On February 10, 1839, the city was officially incorporated.

Boonville is a city in Boon Township, Warrick County, Indiana, United States. The population was 6,246 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Warrick County. History Boonville was founded in 1818 and named for Jesse Boon, father of Ratliff Boon. A post office has been in operation at Boonville since 1820. President Abraham Lincoln studied law in Boonville.

Join me at the Rivers & Rails museum in Boonville Missouri. It's at the Boonville vistor center. They had lots of interesting historic items from Boonville history. While I was there I made reservations to see the Mitchell car museum, another video. ???? But I had a couple hours to kill so I decided to walk around the old town, another video ???? I hope you enjoyed the tour. The train layout at the end was pretty cool.

Katy Trail Day Three Boonville to Rocheport (April 10, 2021) Wet and Wild
After 2-3 years of talking about riding the Katy Trail, we looked at the long-range forecast and decided that sunny weather in the 60's and 70's looked like a good window of opportunity. Accommodations were booked, bikes readied, gear packed, and we headed to Clinton Missouri to start our ride over a planned 6 days with a rest day. The weather shifted slightly on us and we had 2 days of rain, one light, and one heavy. This made us shift our ride a bit and we ended up riding the trail from Clinton to St Charles in 7 days. Glad we did it the week we did as a week later they are experiencing snow in Missouri!
Our third day of riding was from Boonville to Rocheport (18 miles). We had planned to ride 58 miles from Boonville to Jefferson City but the forecast was for steady rain starting the evening of April 9 and going through the evening of April 10. We knew that would be a slog, but we did not want to spend another night at our hotel location in Boonville. Looking on the Internet, we were able to get a room at the Katy Trail B&B (highly recommended), shift our Jefferson City hotel to the following night, and trim our Herman stay to one night. Our ride was through very steady rain and westerly winds and had an on-road detour that was famous for being nerve-wracking. The detour lived up to its reputation and we had a truck try and hit us (there was no other traffic on the road at the time and he came within inches of hitting Julie's pannier before speeding off). Very happy we cut the ride short as we were pretty emotionally spent after that, not to mention wet dogs when we rolled into our B&B. Also, Rocheport is a great little town and we would have been able to enjoy the beautiful scenery between Rocheport and Jefferson City.
