Tawang, naam toh suna hoga? When we plan a Tawang trip, we just stay over Bomdila and Dirang for a halt without realizing that there are so many places to visit, especially offbeat. So I decided to take a ride and visit all the offbeat places near Tawang. You will be surprised there are so many beautiful corners and lush greenery everywhere. Even though you might not have a smooth ride all the time due to changing weather conditions like we did. In this video, I will be showing you everything from a hanging bridge to the famous GRL Monastery in Bomdila.
Towards the end, I will give you a tour of the beautiful homestay that I stayed in at Bomdila.

Ep 1 Guwahati to Shergaon to Bomdila | Tawang Tour, Arunachal Pradesh, North East India
In this tour we will be covering Tawang Circuit of Arunachal pradesh. There are two routes from Guwahati, one via Bhalukpong and other one via Shergaon, we decided to start the journey via Shergaon route and end it via Bhalukpong route.
Bomdila doesn’t have much to see, it is basically a halt point for the travelers, it is better to start the journey as early as you will enjoy few hours of your time at Shergaon.

We had breakfast at Khar khua restaurant, near Mangaldoi. This is a decent, neat and clean restaurant on the highway that takes you to Bomdila.
Journey after Rowta - You can travel via Orang or via Bharab kunda. We took the Orang route.
When you are traveling to Arunachal pradesh, one needs to have ILP certificate which is a permit to enter Arunachal pradesh. You can get the ILP either online or offline directly from the office. Here is the link where you can apply ILP online -
ILP fee is Rs 100 per person, usually you get ILP within 24 hours if you apply online but better to keep space of 2 days for this.
Arunachal Pradesh check post at Balemu - At this place our ILP got checked and there is a similar check post at Bhalukpong.
We had lunch at a local restaurant Green view restaurant in chain, After that we proceeded towards bomdila, halt at Shergaon - their we had Thukpa - price Rs 70 per bowl.
Dinner at Bomdila - Sunshine restaurant - This was good and decent eatery,
Overnight stay at Bomdila - we stayed at Circuit house and paid Rs 2500 for the same, we got this accommodation through some reference.

Ep 1 | Exploring BOMDILA - Tribe, Culture, Monastery & Market | 2nd Time In Arunachal | Travel Vlog
Welcome to Bomdila - a small town in West Kemang district also the headquarters of the district. Bomdila has a past with major Buddhist and Tibetan influences. There is not much history available about this place. However, if stories are to be believed, Bomdila was part of Tibet during the medieval period. The Chinese had tried to claim this land in the 1960’s but later withdrew. This is my second visit to Arunachal and first time visiting the buddhist circuit. There's not much to do in Bomdila unlike the famous Tawang and Dirang in the same belt. Though, you need an eye to find stories even in the places where we do not have much to see :) . I got a chance to visit the famous Bomdila Monastery, saw a Mandala in making, visited the Craft Centre, Mandala Top and many more yet-to-be-popular places. Mandala Top is newly built site on the way to Dirang from Bomdila. It is a series of 108 Buddhist stupas built in a circle on top of a mountain. Built in 2017-2018, this place is of religious importance to the locals but it makes a beautiful and unique tourist site too.

We started our journey from Guwahati and reached Bomdila via Shergaon, next Day we explored Bomdila market and monastery and proceeded towards Dirang.

This video is about exploring Bomdila market , monastery and homestay, During second half of the day we proceeded towards Dirang.
Date of journey -Bomdila to Dirang - Arunachal Pradesh - 10th April 2022
9th April we started the tour from Guwahati and reached back to Guwahati after 12 day tour.

We stayed at Circuit house in Bomdila, this was booked through some reference, though we paid Rs 2500 for stay over night.

Hotel Tsepal Yangjom - 8729881887 price is around Rs 3100 for deluxe room & suite Rs 4500. It is one of the good hotel in the market.
GRL Monastery which is also known as GONTSE GARDEN RABGYE LING Monastery. It is one of the major monasteries built by 12th reincarnate of TsonaGontse Rinpoche in 1965–66.
If anyone wants to stay near the monastery. DOE-GU-KHIL Guest House cost is around Rs 1000 t0 2000 depending upon accommodation type. Contact number - 03782-223232 / 07085160806
Bomdila war memorial - It was built in memory of sikh troops and other soldiers of of Indian army, subedar pritam singh and fellow soldiers fought against chinese army in 1962. This is located at 9000 ft height.
Bomdila market There are many shops in market that sell Ghee and other local products.
Choden Restaurant We had Churpi Sabji - Rs 300 along with chicken Thukpa - Rs 100 , this is a famous restaurant for Churpi sabji.
Then we proceeded towards Dirang, we also visited Dirang Boutique Cottages ( near Miyong river), this is near Dirang Dzong.- Rs 2750 with breakfast double occupancy.
We stayed at Four Seasons homestay in Dirang, tariff around Rs 1800 for double occupancy.

This is Mechuka in Arunachal Pradesh! And I re-visited after 5 long years. And if you're an Indian, you'll need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to get here -
You can get the inner line permit online or at the border on working days.
And if you are a foreigner, you'll need to apply for a Protected Area Permit (PAP)
Mind you, the road journey to this place is really long, and you'll have to take a break at Aalo in between. For which I recommend Reyi Homestay.

Guwahati to Dirang is a distance of 310 km, if you start early from Guwahati and take less breaks then you can reach Dirang on the same day, otherwise its better to do first night stay at Bomdila then next day stay at Dirang.
Dirang is a minimum 2 night destination - we stayed here for 3 nights and explored the beautiful villages around Dirang.

After spending a few hours here we went back to our homestay to have lunch there.

In the evening we reached Sangti Valley where we met with the owner of Lanjom Homestay.
He guided us to the Sangti Valley where we had a great time with a local family of Sangti Village. We got to know about their tradition and culture.
Sangti valley is a nice village- it is advisable to spend one night at this village.
