From Saint Petersburg to Moscow by Sapsan train
Moskovsky railway station is located in the center of St. Petersburg, but when it was built in the 40s of the 19th century, this place was the outskirts of the city.
At the same time the other station was constructed in Moscow. Both stations connected St. Petersburg (which at that time was the capital of the Russian Empire) and Moscow and were called Nikolaevsky after Nicholay the First- Russian emperor. The projects were identical, so the stations looked like twins. But today inside they look different.
There you can see the schedule. My train is 771. As usual, I arrived at the station in advance, because I do not like to rush. For me, it's better to wait somewhere in a cafe than to run headlong.
And speaking about the wleather it is really not very good for taking a walk. It snowed all night, and in the morning snow began to melt. Now it has turned into a solid mess. I can imagine what a headache this is for utilities and how they hate this kind of weather. For me, this weather is also hateful, but unfortunately, it is not uncommon in winter in the European part of Russia.
It's better to stay at the station.
This is a map showing rail connections between St. Petersburg and other cities. Recently some places (Ukraine, Europe) are disconnected. But even though, you can go to many places from St. Petersburg.
In the center of the hall there is a monument to Peter the Great, the founder of St. Petersburg. In the Soviet era here was a monument to Lenin, but it was replaced in 1993.
This time I'm travelling with Sapsan. In the last video, during a trip to Minsk, I showed what the “Lastochka” looked like. Now you can see what Sapsan is. Sapsan is the Russian word for the bird perigrine. This is a pretty fast train. It covers the distance of 635 km between St. Petersburg and Moscow in 3hours and 55 minutes. One-way-ticket price is around 2.500 RUB (or 40 USD).
Sapsan is a Siemens development. Now that Siemes has left Russia the future of Sapsan is not clear.
But in China, I traveled with Maglev, which reached speeds of up to 430 km / h. So, I think there are no irreplaceable trains.
In general, the train is quite comfortable and modern, but once again I realize that in Japan trains are more friendly for passengers, because there you can always travel face1 forward in the direction of the train. In Europe or in Russia, manufacturers somehow did not think about this. On the other hand, Sapsan offers seats with a table that are convenient for instance for negotiations, which I have not seen in Japanese bullet trains.
On the way from St. Petersburg to Moscow, my train makes 2 stops - at Bologoye and Tver.
On board you are requested to keep the noise level down. And once again it reminds me of trains in Japan.

Russian railways: railway preserve in Ostashkov. Meet these legendary Soviet locomotives!
January 9, 2022 is the last day of the New Year holidays in Russia. We are going to the old Russian city of Ostashkov, located on the shores of Lake Seliger. The Bologoye-Polotsk railway passes through Ostashkov - this is an inactive historical branch. There is a daily suburban train, represented by a locomotive and two carriages, several times a week there is a local freight train, and on weekends in the summer there is also a train St. Petersburg - Ostashkov.
On the day of our arrival, we caught an unusually large number of trains. A suburban train with a steam locomotive, a local freight train with a Fantomas locomotive, a passenger train to St. Petersburg, a snowplow with Masha, and a wagon being driven for repairs.
In this video, I will show you the Ostashkov station, a railway in Russian dense forests, and you will also get acquainted with famous Russian locomotives that have become living legends: an L-type steam locomotive, 2TE116, 2M62 diesel locomotives, as well as a modern but rare TEP70BS.

18 августа исполнилось 10 лет со дня основания АО «МТ ППК». Компания была создана в 2009 году на базе Московско-Тверской дирекции по обслуживанию пассажиров. Сначала компания работала как агент по продаже билетов, а с 1 марта 2010 года начала осуществлять функции перевозчика на участке Москва – Тверь. В начале 2011 года МТППК стала перевозить пассажиров по всем пригородным железнодорожным маршрутам Тверской области, а затем – по части Новгородской, Ярославской и Псковской областей.

SAPSAN:THE RUSSIAN BULLET TRAIN , Angels in Train.
On my way to from Saint Petersburg to Moscow in a first class of “Sapsan” (Saint Petersburg – Moscow) high-speed train.
The Sapsan (Russian: Сапсан, lit. 'Peregrine Falcon', known as Velaro RUS EVS) is a Russian gauge high speed electric express train. The train is a Siemens Velaro model, known as the Siemens Velaro RUS.
The trains started regular service on the Saint Petersburg–Moscow Railway in December 2009[1][2] at a maximum speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) (a new build high-speed line would allow for speeds of up to 350 km/h or 217 mph).
On 18 May 2006, Siemens and Russian Railways signed a €276 million order for eight high-speed trains[3] with a 30-year service contract worth around €300 million.[3]
OO gauge model railway featuring the Sapsan train on the Moscow – Saint Petersburg Railway and Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod Railway in the Museum of the Moscow Railway, Moscow.
The trains were ordered to connect Moscow with Saint Petersburg[4] and later Nizhny Novgorod at a speed of up to 250 km/h (155 mph). They are derived from the German ICE 3 train but with bodies widened by 330 mm (13 in) to 3,265 mm (10 ft 8.5 in) to suit Russia's wide loading gauge.[5] Four of the trains (EVS2) are equipped for both 3 kV DC and 25 kV 50 Hz AC operation. The total length of each ten-car train is 250 m (820 ft), carrying up to 600 passengers.
Development and construction was carried out by Siemens at Erlangen and Krefeld in Germany. In August 2009, it was announced that the fifth Sapsan had been delivered to Russia, of the eight that were planned.[6]
Four single-voltage (EVS1, 3 kV DC powered, trainsets 5-8) trains entered passenger service at the end of 2009 on the Moscow – St Petersburg route, with the dual-system trains (EVS2, trainsets 1-4) entering service on the Nizhny Novgorod route on 30 July 2010.[7]
Sapsan set records for the fastest train in Russia on 2 May 2009, travelling at 281 km/h (175 mph)[8] and on 7 May 2009, travelling at 290 km/h (180 mph).
On 19 December 2011, a €600 million order for an additional twenty trainsets including eight EVS2 sets[9] was signed in order to facilitate an increased number of services on existing lines and the expansion of new service elsewhere in the system.[10][11] The second-batch EVS1 sets (trainsets 9-20) will be same details as the first-batch EVS1 sets, but the second-batch EVS2 sets (trainsets 21 onward) will have retractable steps to suit for low platforms, unlike the first-batch EVS2 sets.
Since entering service in December 2009, it has been Russian Railways' only profitable passenger service, with an occupancy rate of 84.5%.[12] According to the timetable valid from 30 October 2011, the direct train from Moscow to St Petersburg without intermediate stops needs three hours 40 minutes, the train from Moscow to Nizhniy Novgorod three hours 55 minutes.
Introduction of Sapsan initially provoked cancelling of affordable daytime trains between Moscow and St Petersburg. Since the end of 2012, Moscow – St Petersburg daytime trains other than Sapsan were running again.
There were a series of stone throwing attacks against Sapsan trains. Possible reasons including cancelling of commuter trains, disruption of local transportation in rural areas, and accidents because of poor safety for pedestrians have been suggested.[13] New bridge crossings were built, platforms along the railway were reconstructed and additional track was completed in 2015. New Lastochka commuter trains were introduced on the Moscow – Tver[14] and St Petersburg – Bologoye routes. Local trains in the rural areas were saved.[15][16]
Sapsan is the fastest way to get from Moscow to Saint Petersburg or vice versa.

Roslavl was chartered under Lithuanian rule in 1408. Under Polish rule Roslavl was part of the Smolensk Voivodeship. In the 1667 truce of Andrusovo the town was ceded from Poland to the Russian Empire……

Located in Ivanovo Oblast, Shuya was originally founded ion 1393. From 1403, the area of the settlement was held by a branch of the House of Suzdal. They gained their name from the settlement of Shuysky, the patrimony of the Princes Shuisky.
In 1539, the town was sacked by Safa Giray of Kazan.
In 1566, it was taken by Ivan the Terrible as his personal property into Oprichnina. In 1722, the town was visited by Peter the Great, who launched textile manufacturing there. Town status was granted to it in 1778. By the 19th century, Shuya was developed into a major flax-processing centre, although it has been since superseded in importance by the neighboring town of Ivanovo.

The ancient town of Tarusa is located on high ground at the confluence of the Tarusa and Oka Rivers, 70 km from Kaluga.
There is no railway, and therefore the town was less susceptible to the passage of time and industrialisation. Most of the buildings are one- and two-story houses located on their own plots of land.
The Russian Soviet writer, Konstantin G. Paustovsky wrote of the town:
I live in one small town on the Oka. It is so small that all its streets go either to the river with its smooth and solemn bends, or to the fields where the wind shakes bread, or in the woods, where spring is in full bloom between the birches and the cherry pines ...
First mention of the settlement was in 1246....and was under the influence of Lithuania by the early 15th century. However in 1508, after a long struggle, the Lithuanian prince Sigismund was forced to abandon his claims to Tarusa and other settlements around Kaluga.
By the beginning of the XIX century Tarusa had about 600 inhabitants, there were 70 houses, two churches and one small brick factory, where only 10 people worked!
Paustovsky continues .... Perhaps nowhere near Moscow was not such typically and touchingly Russian in its landscape. For many years, Tarusa has been a kind of reserve for lyrical strength, diversity and softness of the landscape. No wonder since the end of the XIX century Tarusa became a town of artists... .....Here every summer comes young people from Moscow's art institutes. Writers and scientists reached for the artists, and Tarusa became a kind of creative laboratory and a shelter for people of art and science......
