10 Best Mountain Towns in The United States

10 Best Mountain Towns in The United States

I've been asked many times to make a list of the best mountain towns.
These are some of the best I have ever visited. Let me know in the comment section which ones you liked or is there some you think should be on the list?

If you enjoy these videos I would love to hear about it. Most of these videos are made to help people who are thinking about relocating, looking for real estate, or just wanting to learn about the United States. We look at the best and worst cities, states, towns, and neighborhoods in the United States. But, most of the time focus on the negative side of locations. If you only want some happy positive information about a city, town, or state, I would suggest looking up local mortgage and real estate companies or maybe the locations website. They are trying to sell you something so it will be nothing but sunshine, rainbows and a bunch of smoke up your skirt. They won't tell you about crime, poverty, bail bondsmen, or insurance you'll need because of natural disasters. I will. And I will try and make it entertaining.

War, West Virginia | What The Hell Happened?

War, WV....WOW!! This is one of the most poverty stricken cities in the country! Located in McDowell County, West Virginia, this city has an estimated population of 662 and has a poverty rate of 49.5%! Driving through some of these Appalachian areas look like a war zone. On the flip side, the people for the most part were extremely friendly and crime is extremely low in this area. War was a former coal and timber camp, it was nicknamed Miner's City. After the war on coal and collapse of the economy, this place has been left devastated. The average income is less than $16,500 dollars per year. Let's take a drive and check some of it out!

Every West Virginia Airport in Ten Minutes - The Mountain State's Aerial Network

Thanks for joining me on this Miles By Tour tour of all seven commercial airports in West Virginia!

West Virginia's small population and size might normally preclude it from commercial air service, but the mountainous terrain and the many moderate-sized cities throughout the state require air travel to effectively connect these cities with the outside world. As beautiful as West Virginia is, sometimes you need to get in and out fast!

Each airport, even the largest, is modest in comparison to other American cities, so we can cover all of them in one video! All of these airports have interesting origins, histories, and roles they play in the state's infrastructure, making all of them worth a visit, however briefly!

The information contained within this video was accurate and up-to-date as of June 2021, when I visited these airports. The progress of the COVID-19 pandemic may change the routes, schedules, and frequencies I mentioned.

Finally, let me know where you'd like to see next! Now that I've been vaccinated, I'm able to travel with more confidence. Stay tuned for new flight and airport videos every two weeks!

Inside Appalachia - First Impressions ????????

Deep in the mountains of West Virginia, is a world most of us know nothing about. It's a place that's had a huge part in building the country off of the backs of coal miners. Economic decline has hit the region hard, but what remains is a sliver of hope, pride, and some of the most authentic and friendly people in the country.

I went to Bluefield, West Virginia just to watch trains!!!

in this video we go to Bluefield west Virginia just to watch trains in coal country. When I was younger I used to dream about the Pocahontas pokey district in west Virginia. I was excited that I started this journey and I can explore my options with my fellow railfans to share it with me. I had a wonderful time when I was out here exploring the wild and wonderful west Virginia. the mountaineer state. Seeing various trains coming around the mountain. we got to see a couple of heritage units we saw the contrail heritage and the nickel plate railroad. this area of west Virginia is all ex Norfolk and western railroad. I was sad to see all the signals that used to be the old Norfolk and western signals replaced with new ones.

info about the nkp

The New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad (reporting mark NKP), abbreviated NYC&St.L, was a railroad that operated in the mid-central United States. Commonly referred to as the Nickel Plate Road, the railroad served parts of the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. Its primary connections occurred in Buffalo, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and Toledo.

The Nickel Plate Road was constructed in 1881 along the South Shore of the Great Lakes to connect Buffalo and Chicago, in competition with the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway. At the end of 1960, NKP operated 2,170 miles (3,490 km) of road on 4,009 miles (6,452 km) of track, not including the 25 miles (40 km) of Lorain & West Virginia. That year it reported 9.758 billion net ton-miles of revenue freight and 41 million passenger-miles.

In 1964, the Nickel Plate Road and several other midwestern carriers were merged into the larger Norfolk and Western Railway (N&W). The goal of the N&W expansion was to form a more competitive and successful system serving 14 states and the Canadian province of Ontario on more than 7,000 miles (11,000 km) of railroad. In 1982, the profitable N&W was itself combined with the Southern Railway, another profitable carrier, to form Norfolk Southern Corporation (NS)

Bluefield info

Bluefield is a town in Mercer County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 9,658 at the 2020 census.[3] It is the principal town of the Bluefield WV-VA micropolitan area, which had a population of 106,363 in 2020.
The European-American history of Bluefield began in the 18th century, when two families settled in a rugged and remote part of what is now southern West Virginia. Others joined them and they built a small village with a mill, a church, a one-room schoolhouse, and a fort for defending the settlement against invasions by the Shawnee Indian tribe, which had a village on the banks of the Bluestone River.

In 1882, the descendants of the Davidson and Bailey family sold a portion of their land, when Captain John Fields of the Norfolk and Western Railway pioneered the area and began building a new railroad through the hills of Bluefield. The city is traditionally thought to be named after the chicory flowers in the area, which give the fields a purplish blue hue during the summer. Research has shown that this settlement, also known as Higginbotham's Summit in the 1880s, was probably named for the coal fields that were developed in the area of the Bluestone River.
