1.Rasmancha-At a distance of 1.5 km from Bishnupur Bus Station, Rasmancha is a historical monument located in the town of Bishnupur, West Bengal. Surrounded by a well-maintained garden, it is the oldest brick temple and the only temple of its kind in the whole country.Rasmancha was built by Malla King Bir Hambir in 1600 CE. The temple has a unique and unparalleled structure. This monument stands on a raised square laterite plinth with a pyramidal superstructure. The temple is surrounded by smaller Bengali-styled hut-like structures. The temple has one inner chamber housing the idols of Radha-Krishna.
2.Shyam Rai Temple -At a distance of 2 km from Bishnupur Bus Stand, Shyam Rai Temple is an ancient temple situated within the fort of Bishnupur. Located near Jor Bangla Temple, it is one of the popular temples in Bishnupur and among the must-see places to experience Bishnupur tourism. Like most of the temples in Bishnupur, this is also dedicated to Lord Krishna. Maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, the temple is an example of the Pancha Ratna (Five gems) architecture and is surrounded by a beautiful garden. This is the most profusely carved temple in Bishnupur.
3.Jor Bangla Temple-At a distance of 2 km from Bishnupur Bus Station, Jor Bangla Temple is an ancient temple located in Bishnupur, West Bengal. It is one of the top historical places in West Bengal and among the best places to experience Bishnupur tourism.It is one of the few temples of Bishnupur which is in good condition. It is richly ornamented with terracotta carvings. The temple is known for its classic chala style of Bengal architecture.
4.Madan Mohan Temple-At a distance of 3 km from Bishnupur Bus Station, Madan Mohan Temple is one of the ancient temples located in Bishnupur town of West Bengal. Built-in Eka-Ratna style, the temple has a square flat roof with curved cornices and a pinnacle over the top. It is relatively a bigger Eka-Ratna temple compared to other similar temples in Bishnupur and one of the most renowned temples in the town. The present temple was built after the original temple was damaged due to a massive earthquake in 1820.
5.Dalmadal Cannon-At a distance of 1.5 km from Bishnupur Bus Station, Dalmadal Cannon is one of the famous cannon located in Bishnupur, West Bengal. Situated near Chinnamasta Temple and Jor Mandir Temples, it is one of the popular historical attractions in Bishnupur. Dalmadal is the biggest one built by the Malla kings of Bengal and has not rusted with time with the outer diameter of 66.5 cm.The canon is kept within an enclosure that attracts lots of tourists from far off places.
6.Chinnamasta Temple-Chinnamasta Temple is a Hindu temple in Bishnupur, Bankura District, West Bengal, India, dedicated to the Goddess Sakti. This is a modern temple where the presiding Devi is still revered. The Dalmadal Cannon/Gun path to the Jor-Mandir collection of temples passes through this temple. Bishnupur Bus Stand is 1.5 km, Bishnupur Junction Railway Station is 4 km, and Bishnupur New Bus Stand is 2 km distant.
7.Lalji Temple-At a distance of 2 km from Bishnupur Bus Station, Lalji Temple is an ancient temple located in Bishnupur, West Bengal. Situated near Jor Bangla Temple, it is one of the prominent terracotta temples of Bishnupur.This temple has been devoted to Radha-Krishna. This temple bears similar architectural concepts like many of the earlier temples. It is built on a square raised plinth, consisting of ornamental stucco decorations on low relief carvings.
8.Radha Gobinda Temple-At a distance of 2 km from Bishnupur Bus Station, Radha Gobinda Temple is an old temple located in Bishnupur, West Bengal. Situated near Jor Mandir Temple, it is one of the ancient architectural marvels of Bishnupur.It is an Ekaratna temple, built of laterite and consists of a square lower storey in the thatched-hut fashion of Bengal Temple architecture with a curvilinear tower above it. The facade of the temple is profusely carved. The decorative motifs include floral patterns, puranic scenes, and many geometrical depictions.
9.At a distance of 2 km from Bishnupur Bus Stand, Nandalal Temple is an ancient temple situated at Dalmadal Para in Bishnupur town of West Bengal. Located near Jor Mandir Temples, it is one of the popular places of heritage in West Bengal and among the top places to visit in Bishnupur.There is very little ornamentation of the lower relief of the arches of the front facade. Currently, there is no deity inside the temple.
10.Gate of Old Fort- This entrance gate is called the Gardarja, which literally means the door of the fort.The fine arched gateway of Old Fort has a central passage for accommodating the Malla Troops.

Rasmancha : Rasmancha was build by malla king Hambir, this is the oldest structure of Bishnupur. Entry fee : ₹30/ head.
Gumghar :
A sasure structure located on the top of a small mound. Some opine that it was a prison while others believe it was a granery.
Shyamrai Temple : This is popularly known as Panchachura Temple because of its five pinnacles.
Jor Bangla Temple : Locally known as Kestorai Temple.
Radheshyam Temple : Just adjacent to Jor Bangla temple there is a temple with one pinnacle named as Radheshyam temple. There is an Islamic style gate infront of this temple.
Other places are : Lalji Temple, Stone Chariot, Madan Mohan temple, Dalmadal canon, Chinnamasta Temple, Bishnupur Mela, Bishnupur Pora Matir Haat (Every Saturday 1pm onwards), Baluchori Saree Shop and Panchmura Terracotta Village.
Entry fee: ₹30/head for Rasmancha, which can be used for other temples of Bishnupur.

Bishnupur is a town in the Bankura District of West Bengal and located at about 132 km from Kolkata. It is famous for its terracotta temples and Baluchari sarees. The town has a glorious past that is reflected in its rich architecture, music and handicrafts such as pottery and weaving. It prospered in the 17th and early 18th centuries. Ruled by a line of Hindu Rajas of the Malla dynasty, Bishnupur developed a unique form of architecture and has perhaps the most brilliant and detailed terracotta work in Eastern India that has withstood the ravages of time. The Terracotta tiles depict stories from Ramayana and Mahabharata. The Temples like the Shyam Ray Temple, the twin shrines of Jorbangla and the Rasmancha are a must visit. Apart from its heritage, Bishnupur is also known for its traditional handloom sarees. Pottery, artiefacts and even jewellery made of terracotta in Bishnupur are also very popular. Bishnupur is also famous for the School of Hindustani Music which flourished under royal patronage along with the Bishnupur School of Painting. This style of music is still being kept alive in local academies of music. The history of Bishnupur can be traced back to 694 AD, when King Raghunath founded the Malla dynasty. However, it was much later in 994 AD that the place was named Bishnupur. The name is derived from the name of the Hindu God Vishnu. The most powerful king of the dynasty was King Raghunath Singh Dev II, who ruled from 1626 AD. At that time the administration of Bengal was in the hands of Shah Lahan and his son Shuja. He developed a close friendship with the king and there followed a period of peace when art and music already flourishing, reached great heights. It was during this period that the Jorbangla Temple was erected.

∆BISHNUPUR--
Bishnupur is a town and a municipality in Bishnupur subdivision of Bankura District in the state of West Bengal, India. It is famous for its terracotta temples , Krishna Raslilla and the Baluchari sarees.
∆TRANSPORT--
Bishnupur is reasonably well connected via roads. Due to its importance as a tourism destination, it is connected to almost all major places of Bengal. Long distance buses connect Bishnupur to places like Arambag, Durgapur, Asansol, Kolkata etc. There are regular and frequent bus services available between Kolkata and Bishnupur. The buses usually leave Kolkata from the Esplanade bus stand. The journey takes about 4 hours and 45 minutes.Bishnupur is well-connected by rail to the rest of the country via Kharagpur and Adra. Express and mail trains ply between Kolkata and Bishnupur on a regular basis. The Rupashi Bangla Express, Aranyak Express and the Purulia Express are the most convenient trains to reach Bishnupur from Kolkata; these trains come via Kharagpur(Midnapur) and take approx 3:30 to 4:15 hours to reach Bishnupur from Kolkata.
Within the city of Bishnupur, private auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws are most convenient mode of communication. Recently CNG autos have been introduced plying through various parts of the town. These vehicles are environment-friendly, non-polluting, convenient, less time consuming and cheap mode of travel.
Nearest International Airport is at Dumdum, Kolkata (Netaji Subhash International airport) which is 140 km away.
∆PLACE TO VISIT-
1)RASHMANCHA-The Rasmancha is a historical building , It was commissioned by Mallabhum king Bir Hambir in 1600 CE.During the Vaishnava Ras festival, all the Radha Krishna idols of Bishnupur town used to be brought here to be worshipped by the citizens.The annual festival was held till 1932 and then it was stopped.
2)SHYAM RAI TEMPME-Shyam Rai Temple of Bishnupur was built by Raghunatha Singha in 17th century. The architecture of this Temple is unique and is one of the prioritized monuments on Archaeological Survey of India’s list. It has Panch ratna meaning five tower structures. Curved ceiling of the Temple is influenced by Islamic architecture giving it unique blend. It has beautiful terracotta sculptures on depicting various scenes from Ramayana, Krishna Leela and Mahabharata.
3)JOR-BANGLA TEMPLE-Built by King Raghunath Singha Dev II. The ornate terracotta carvings are set off by the roof in the classic chala style of Bengal architecture.
4)PANCHA RATNA TEMPLE-Built by King Raghunath Singha. It stands on a low square plinth and consists of an ambulatory pathway with a porch opened by three arches on the four sides of the temple. The central shikhara is octagonal, while the rest four are square. The walls are richly decorated with terracotta carvings featuring aspects of Lord Krishna’s life.
5)MADANMOHAN TEMPLE--
King Durjana Singh Deva built the temple in the ekaratna style, a square flat-roofed building with carved cornices, surmounted by a pinnacle. Impressive carvings on the walls depict scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharataand the Puranas.
6)LALJI TEMPLE-Built by Bir Singha II in ekaranta style. It is built on a square raised plinth, consisting of ornamental stucco decorations on low relief carvings.
7)RADHYA SHYAM TEMPLE-Built by Chaitanya Singha in ekaratna style. It was built in a square plan, consisting of a dome shaped shikhara and stucco motifs depicting floral, geometric and depiction of the life from puranas.
8)KALACHAND TEMPLE--
Built by King Raghunath Singha in ekratna style with laterite stone.
9)CHHINNAMASTA TEMPLE--Built by the Guin family of Midnapore.
10)MRINMAYEE TEMPLE--Originally built by Jagat Malla in 997 AD. The Durga puja takes place for 15 days and all the other temples in Bishnupur does not start the puja until the cannon has been fired from the temple.
11)JORMANDIR--
A complex of three temples known as the Jor Mandir. These temples were built by Malla King Krishna Singh in 1726.
12)DALMADAL CANON-Largest canon at bishnupur.
13)STONE GATE-There are two stone gate. A large and a small get.
14)GUMGHAR-Controversy with it.May be it was a prison.according to some other theory it was a granary or water tank.

Bishnupur was ruled under the Gupta period by local Hindu kings who paid tribute to Samudra Gupta. The land is also called Mallabhum after the Malla rulers of this place. The Malla rulers were Vaishnavites and built the famous terracotta temples during the 17th and 18th century at this place. The legends of Bipodtarini Devi are associated with Malla Kings of Bishnupur.
Bishnupur (the distance from Kolkata is 132 km), now the headquarters of the subdivision of the same name in Bankura district, is a seat of crafts and culture.
For almost a thousand years it was the capital of the Malla kings of Mallabhum, of which Bankura was a part, till their power waned during the times when Mughal Empire weakened under the last monarchs of the dynasty.
Bishnupur one of the principal centres of culture in Bengal. Most of the exquisite terracotta temples for which town is justly famous were built during this period. Mrinmoyee temple of kings is treated as a valuable historic place.
Apart from the unique architecture of the period, Bishnupur is also famous for its terracotta craft and its own Baluchari sarees made of tussar silk.
Royal patronage also gave rise to Bishnupur Gharana of Hindustani classical music in late 18th-century and the Bishnupur school of painting.
Since 1997, the temples of Bishnupur is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site's Tentative list.

Bishnupur is the heritage town of Bankura district, presently one of the major tourist attractions of West bengal. In the Early 18th century Bishnupur was the kingdom of the Malla dynasty. During the period of 16th to 18th century a special type of architecture was formed by Mallas named Terracotta - an artistic sculpture made by the burning soil. This Terracotta sculpture and the temples of Bishnupur set special features in the temple heritage of Bengal. Presently both the temples and sculptures of Bishnupur are maintained and undertaken by the Archeological Survey of India. By visiting this historical city you can feel the rich heritage and culture of ancient Bengal.
