★ 4K ????????Mainline cab ride in a 60 year old diesel, Münchenstein - Birsfelden Hafen [06.2020]

Welcome to another video. This time we accompany a diesel shunting veteran onto the mainline - a rare occurrence for any shunting locomotive, let alone an old one. The last time I saw a Bm 4/4 on a mainline was in 2014 while I was trainspotting:

The Bm 4/4 is a Swiss designed and built diesel electric which has been in service for 60 years now. They have only been recently been taken out of SBB Cargo service due to the arrival of newer locomotives, however in their last years, they were extensively used while the newer Am 843s sat around because they used less Diesel. Today there are still a handful in use with private companies and one example has been preserved in working order by SBB historic.

What intrigues me is how smooth they are to drive. You'd expect an aged locomotive to smoke a bit more, but these wonderful machines just keep doing their job reliably day in and day out.

So, we're heading to Münchenstein (a few stations from Basel on the line to Laufen) where some wagons were stored due to a capacity shortage in Birsfelden. We take them down to the harbour after the compulsory change of direction at the Basel marshalling yard. To get to the marshalling yard, we take a section of track that is rarely used, forming a direct connection from the Laufen valley (Laufental). This avoids us having to change directions at Basel SBB or Basel GB (freight yard).

The clicking noises while driving are the 2 Hasler speedometers in the cab, a fine feat of engineering found in most older locomotives in Europe. The other occasional rattling sound is the compressor.

???? Picturesque morning mist cab ride in eastern Switzerland (Thurbo S10 | Romanshorn - Wil)

Welcome aboard the S10 service in Romanshorn, located directly at Lake Constance. It is the start of a beautiful day, the sun rises behind us and the light mist on the trip fits just perfectly into the quiet and peaceful morning. Our trip takes us to Weinfelden with stops at all stations. From there, we'll turn south, the curvy route follows the lines of the landscape. In this rural area, all stops are only on request. On our trip, we will drive past the Stadler commissioning and startup centre Erlen, where all new Stadler trains are thoroughly checked, finished and prepared for delivery to the customer. Stadlers headquarters and main facility are located just a few stations further in Bussnang, where the train we find ourselves in was once built. Sit back and enjoy this peaceful and picturesque cab ride!

A evening walk in the summer in Basel. This Swiss city has its charms! Walk by the main shopping lane to the red town hall and town square known as Rathaus. 17.07.2021 Hochwassersituation im Dreiländereck Basel

Die Hochwassersituation im Dreiländereck Basel hat sich entspannt. Aber es ist immer noch Vorsicht geboten. In der Region war der Pegel der Flüsse hoch, jedoch nicht so dramatisch wie in vielen Teilen in Deutschland wie zum Beispiel in Nordrhein Westfalen und Rheinland-Pfalz. MIt dem Stand vom 17.07.2021 zeige ich das Hochwasser des Rheins, der Birs und der Wiese.

P.S. :
In meinem Film (auch auf der Infokarte gezeigt) mit dem Velo auf dem Weg nach Rheinfelden Schweiz sieht man auch das Inselchen von Rheinfeden nicht überflutet, also mit normalem Pegelstand des Rheins. Das ist ein schöner Vergleich.
