Billerbeck, North Rhine-Westphalia, ???????? Germany, Walking Tour 2021

Billerbeck is a municipality in the district of Coesfeld in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.

Billerbeck is an important centre of tourism as it is only half-an-hour away for the 7 million people of the Rhein-Ruhr-Area and it is also a place of pilgrimage as Ludger, the first bishop of Münster, died there in the year 809. Last but not least cycling is very popular in the region which is manifested in 800 kilometres of bicycle and pedestrian streets. For these reasons the gastronomy is well developed and offers a great variety related to the city's number of inhabitants.

Billerbeck is located on the train line from Münster to Coesfeld, the so-called tree hills line (Baumbergebahn). The modernised station building offers a café for cultural Events and a bicycle rental station.

A further train station in Billerbeck is located in Lutum, which is a countryside train station. The town of Billerbeck is part of the public transport association of the Münsterland VGM. Therefore, some bus lines also stop at Billerbeck, connecting the town to its neighbouring towns and cities.

Münster in 5 minutes ???? Beautiful student city with a historic city center

Münster is a destination for young people. The city has been honoured several times for its high quality of life. Most people travel here by bike, for example on the five-kilometer-long promenade or around the lake Aasee.
The historic city center around Prinzipalmarkt is a popular postcard image. Münster's historic town hall is known as one of the most beautiful Gothic buildings in Germany. St. Lamberti is the city's landmark. From the church tower, Münster's tower keeper, Martje Saljé, watches over residents and visitors.

The people of Münster are very warm and cheerful. You can feel this throughout the city. Just outside the city is the Allwetterzoo. Almost 3,000 animals live here.

Our visit to the city of Münster in Germany

A quick look at a historic city, in the northwest of Germany, in the Westphalia region, that is full of charm & culture.

Our walking tour is a look at the highlights of Münster from the Rathaus with its Hall of Peace (Friedenssaal), across to 13th-century Münster Dom, also known as St. Paulus Cathedral, with its 16th-century Astronomical Clock that we can hear chiming. A short stroll before we reach the Überwasserkirche, and the streets that double as the set of the popular German TV detective series “Wilsberg”.

We then explore the lanes of Kreuzstraße with its many bars before heading back to St Lamberti Church, and discover more of the city including stunning views from café “1648” before checking out the exquisite interior of Clemenskirche.

We then return to Prinzipalmarkt and onto the Carillon (glockenspiel) on Nonhoff House. Then we touch on the places of interest you will want to visit if you are staying in Münster, such as the LWL - Museum for Art and Culture, Stadtmuseum Münster and the Pablo Picasso museum.

We end up our visit with the Tower Keeper of Münster and climbing the 300 steps of St Lamberti Church, but it was well worth it.

Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia, ???????? Germany, Walking Tour 2021

Paderborn is a city in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, capital of the Paderborn district. The name of the city derives from the river Pader and born, an old German term for the source of a river. The river Pader originates in more than 200 springs near Paderborn Cathedral, where St. Liborius is buried.
Paderborn was founded as a bishopric by Charlemagne in 795, although its official history began in 777 when Charlemagne built a castle near the Pader springs. In 799 Pope Leo III fled his enemies in Rome and reached Paderborn, where he met Charlemagne, and stayed there for three months. It was during this time that it was decided that Charlemagne would be crowned emperor. Charlemagne reinstated Leo in Rome in 800 and was crowned as Holy Roman Emperor by Leo in return. In 836, St. Liborius became the patron saint of Paderborn after his bones were moved there from Le Mans by Bishop Badurad. St. Liborius is commemorated in Paderborn every year in July with the Liborifest.

The bishop of Paderborn, Meinwerk, became a Prince of the Empire in 1100. The bishop had several large buildings built, and the area became a place for the emperors to stay.

Paderborn in 1647.
The city was taken by Prussia in 1802, then by the French vassal state Kingdom of Westphalia from 1807 to 1813 and then returned to Prussia.

Native Friedrich Sertürner, a pharmacist's apprentice in Paderborn, was the first to isolate morphine from opium in 1804.

In 1914 the Paderborn military camp was turned into a prisoner of war camp named Sennelager.

In 1930, the See of Paderborn was promoted to archdiocese.

During World War II, Paderborn was bombed by Allied aircraft in 1944 and 1945, resulting in 85% destruction, including many of the historic buildings. It was seized by the US 3rd Armored Division after a pitched battle 31 March - 1 April 1945, in which tanks and flamethrowers were used during combined mechanized-infantry assaults against the city's southwestern, southern and southeastern approaches.

After the city was reconstructed in the 1940s and 1950s, Paderborn became a major industrial seat in Westphalia. The British Army has retained a significant presence in the area, and uses the nearby Sennelager Training Area.

Walking in MÜNSTER / Germany ????????- 4K 60fps (UHD)

Münster / Germany (engl. also: Muenster) is a city North Rhine-Westphalia. It originated as a monastery founded in 794. Now Münster is known for its university and as an administration centre. The city has a13th-century St. Paulus Dom cathedral and a reconstructed city center with the historical city hall and the Prinzipalmarkt.

We start our Münster tour at the central train station which is located East of the city center. We walk around 5 minutes westwards and see the Dom another 5 minutes later. The nice Prinzipalmarkt is busy on this September afternoon.

We walk further West and finally up North to see the outskirts of the center. In the more residential Buddenturm area we see more of the non-touristic side of Münster before we return to the cathedral. The eastern area of Münster with Alter Steinweg has many restaurants.

We complete our route by returning to the central train station and end our autumn / fall walking tour through one of the nicest cities in Germany.

Castle Dyck Jüchen Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia, ???????? Germany, Walking Tour 2020

Castle Dyck (German: Schloss Dyck) is a moated castle in the Rhineland region of Germany. It is located in the municipality of Jüchen in Rhein-Kreis Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia, between Grevenbroich and Mönchengladbach.
The history of the castle began in 1094 when the knight Hermannus de Disco was mentioned in a record of the Archbishop of Cologne as the lord of a simple fortification. Over time the site was converted into a fortified moated castle. In 1383 the castle was besieged by the cities of Aachen and Cologne, as well as by the archbishop Friedrich III von Saarwerden and Duke William I of Guelders and Jülich. They accused Lord Gerard van Dyck of being a robber knight. When Gerard van Dyck died without male offspring, the castle was inherited by Johann V von Reifferscheidt, the ancestor of the counts and princes of Salm-Reifferscheid. This family owned the castle for more than 900 years until it became the Centre for Garden Art and Landscape Design in 1999. The last heiress of the family, Countess Marie Christine Wolff Metternic, turned it over to a foundation to secure the future of the castle.

The castle is the center of Salm-Reifferscheid-Dyck, an independent territory located between the Electorate of Cologne, Guelders and Jülich. The small territory was called Dycker Ländchen and is still recognizable for its unique cultural landscape.
The main building, the forecourts, and the outbuilding and the stables are spread over four islands. In the 17th century the castle was turned into an early baroque residence. Count Salentin of Salm-Reifferscheid extended the main building into a four-wing complex; stables, watch rooms, and the brewery were renewed. In the 18th century, Schloss Dyck became a Rococo residence, with fine tapestries and exquisite furniture. Unfortunately not everything has been saved: the famous library was sold at an auction in 1992, as was the armory and weapons collection.

The complex is surrounded by an English landscape garden created by prince Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck. The castle and the park are open for visitors. The complex also includes a hotel that hosts many venues and meetings. Schloss Dyck Classic Days is a cultural heritage festival started in 2006. Its proceeds are used for the maintenance of the castle.
