Montenegro (/ˌmɒntɪˈniːɡroʊ, -ˈneɪɡroʊ, -ˈnɛɡroʊ/ (audio speaker iconlisten); Montenegrin: Crna Gora,[a] Црна Гора, lit. 'Black Mountain', pronounced [tsr̩̂ːnaː ɡǒra]; Albanian: Mali i zi) is a country in Southeastern Europe. It is located on the Adriatic Sea and is a part of the Balkans, sharing borders with Serbia to the northeast, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the north and west, Kosovo[c] to the east, Albania to the southeast, the Adriatic Sea and Croatia to the southwest, and maritime boundary with Italy. Podgorica, the capital and largest city, covers 10.4% of Montenegro's territory of 13,812 square kilometres (5,333 sq mi), and is home to roughly 30% of its total population of 621,000.

During the Early Medieval period, three principalities were located on the territory of modern-day Montenegro: Duklja, roughly corresponding to the southern half; Travunia, the west; and Rascia proper, the north. The Principality of Zeta emerged in the 14th and 15th centuries. From the late 14th century to the late 18th century, large parts of southern Montenegro were ruled by the Venetian Republic and incorporated into Venetian Albania. The name Montenegro was first used to refer to the country in the late 15th century. After falling under Ottoman rule, Montenegro regained its independence in 1696 under the rule of the House of Petrović-Njegoš, first as a theocracy and later as a secular principality. Montenegro's independence was recognised by the Great Powers at the Congress of Berlin in 1878. In 1910, the country became a kingdom.

After World War I, the kingdom became part of Yugoslavia. Following the breakup of Yugoslavia, the republics of Serbia and Montenegro together proclaimed a federation. Following an independence referendum held in May 2006, Montenegro declared its independence and the confederation peacefully dissolved.

Montenegro has an upper middle-income economy and ranks 48th in the Human Development Index. It is a member of the United Nations, NATO, the World Trade Organization, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Council of Europe, and the Central European Free Trade Agreement. Montenegro is also a founding member of the Union for the Mediterranean, and is currently in the process of joining the European Union Montenegro is divided into twenty-four municipalities (opština). This includes 21 District-level Municipalities and 2 Urban Municipalities, with two subdivisions of Podgorica municipality, listed below. Each municipality can contain multiple cities and towns. Historically, the territory of the country was divided into nahije.

Montenegro Travel 2021 - The City of BAR

Montenegro Travel 2021 - The City of Bar.
At this time, we visited another city in Montenegro; Bar. Everyone is talking about Kotor, Budva when they heard about Montenegro, but often missing other towns around. Bar city offers beautiful pebble beaches, stunning sunset views, and the famous the Old Town of Bar or often called Stari Bar by the locals.

Travel to Montenegro is incomplete without visiting this city. I would suggest people visit Bar when travelling in Montenegro. Visit the King Nikola Palace and the grand St. Jovan Vladimir church located in the city centre.

City of Bar - Stari Bar - Montenegro

At the southern edge of Montenegro lies the picturesque city of Bar. With rolling mountains, warm waters and a bustling cityscape, it’s a hugely popular destination for yachters from around the world. For thousands of years, people have been drawn to the intoxicating beauty of Bar’s countryside. The city’s chic, contemporary looks belie a much longer history, rich with romance and excitement. The blend of tradition modernity within the Port of Bar’s city limits make it a huge tourist destination and hub for coastal expeditions. Besides being an important port, Bar is also the final station on the Belgrade-Bar railroad.

Southeast of the city, Stari Bar (Old Town – Old Bar) elevates itself some four kilometers inland from the coast at the foot of Mount Rumija (1.594 m) and at an altitude of 110 m. Just arriving in Old Bar gives you a sense of the old times, with many coloured houses at the foot of the site, decorated with the most amazing colours. It’s a colourful mish-mash of restaurants and souvenir shops that showcases the Turkish influence that 300 years of Ottoman rule had on the area. The cobbled street that leads to the Old town is one of prettiest streets in Montenegro. The Old Town of Bar also known as a Montenegrin Pompeii is the largest urban agglomeration among the ruins in Montenegro.

About Podgorica: Podgorica is the capital city of Montenegro. Its rivers and bridges include the modern Millennium Bridge over the Morača River, and the stone bridge spanning the Ribnica River. The centuries-old Clock Tower, built by the Turks, dominates the old town. In the Zeta-Skadar valley south of the city, Lake Skadar National Park is home to medieval monasteries, beaches, and birds like the Dalmatian pelican. The Osmanagića Mosque and Ribnica Fortress are examples of the citys Ottoman architecture. The Natural History Museum of Montenegro presents the biodiversity of the area through collections of fossils, ferns and mammals. Petrović Palace, a former royal residence now home to the Center of Contemporary Art of Montenegro, is in a forested park. Also in the park is the Church of Saint Demetrius, with carved wood decorations. North of Podgorica is Doclea, an archaeological site with Roman ruins. Nearby, Zlatica Monastery includes the remains of a religious complex built in the early Christian period. // Millennium bridge, Clock Tower, Dajbabska Gora Tower, Podgorica Municipal building, Telenor Centre, Moscow Bridge [Source: wikipedia // Google]
