Ep 1 Places to visit Rajgir- Bihar, Wildlife safari , Glass Bridge, Jarasandh Akhada,
Rajgir is 100 km from patna- It has many tourist attractions plus it is a holy place for Jains and HIndu’s.
We had spent one and a half day in Rajgir exploring places to tourist interest in and around Rajgir.
Date of journey - 7th feb 2023.
Following are the place we visited as part of this day’s tour of Rajgir - Bihar.
Rajgir Wildlife Safari - It is spread across 191 hectares - entry fee - Rs 100 and Rs 150 for Safari Bus Ticket.
Veerayatan - We had lunch at this place, timings are 12 to 1 pm.
Rs 110 charges for meal, timings. Ginger, Garlic not used in food here.
Breakfast 8 am to 9 am
Lunch 12 noon to 1 pm
Dinner - 5 pm to 6 pm.
Rajgir Nature Safari - We took the bus from the same place from where we started our Wildlife safari. This time we went to see the Suspension Bridge & Glass Bridge. The fee is Rs 150 plus Rs 150 so total Rs 300.
Try to avoid visiting nature safari as it is too crowded, even on weekdays this place is crowded.
Cyclopean Wall - We went to see 45 km long, spread on the 5 mountains in the ancient city of Rajgir.

Jarasandh Ka Akhada - This place has mythological connection from Mahabharat, it is believed that the Jarasandh & Bhima fought the battle at this place.
Sone Bhandar - It is also known as Swarn Bhandar, which is man-made cave, it is believed that it has the hidden treasure behind the wall in the cave.
Brahmakund - This is Laxmi vishnu temple, It has a hot water spring inside.
I went there with the view that i will go and take a bath there but it was too crowded and the kund is relatively small too.

TOP 10 PLACES TO VISIT IN BIHAR
It is the 13th largest state, with an area of 94,163 km2 (36,357 sq mi) and the 3rd largest by population. It is contiguous with Uttar Pradesh to its west, Nepal to the north, the northern part of West Bengal to the east, and with Jharkhand to the south. The Bihar plain is bifurcated by the river Ganges which flows from west to east. Two of India’s most glorious dynasties, Mauryas (321 -185 BCE) and Guptas (320 to 550 CE) flourished in ancient Bihar region which was then known as Magadh. It is in Bihar that the world’s first democracy was in governance by the Lichchivi (the present Vaishali) about 2600 years back.
1) Mahabodhi
It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a Buddhist temple in Bodh Gaya, marking the location where Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment. Bodh Gaya (located in Gaya district) is located about 96 km (60 mi) from Patna. The Bodhi tree at Bodhgaya is directly connected to the life of the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, who attained enlightenment or perfect insight when he was meditating under it. The temple was build directly to the east of the Bodhi tree which is supposed to be a direct descendant of the original Bodhi Tree.
2) Nalanda University
The site is located about 95 kilometres southeast of Patna near the town of Bihar Sharif. Founded in the 5th Century A.D., Nalanda is known as the ancient seat of learning. 2,000 Teachers and 10,000 Students from all over the Buddhist world lived and studied at Nalanda, the first Residential International University of the World. The famous Chinese traveller and scholar,Hieun-Tsang stayed here and has given a detailed description of the situations prevailing at that time.
3) Takht Sri Patna Sahib
It was built in remembrance of the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs on 22 December 1666, and like many historical Gurdwara's in India and Pakistan, this Gurdwara too, was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
4) 80 ft Buddha Statue
The Great Buddha Statue popularly known as 80’ Buddha Statue was unveiled and consecrated on November 18, 1989 with a ceremony graced with the presence of His Holiness the XIV the Dalai Lama, who blessed the 25-meter statue. It was the first great Buddha statue built in the modern history of India. The statue is situated next to Mahabohdi Temple at Bodhgaya
5) Patna Museum
The state museum of Bihar is an important place not to be left out of the itinerary of anybody visiting the State Capital. Located at the heart of the city it boasts of the innumerable heritage collections found in the region replete in glorious historical settings. Built by the British rulers in 1917 the grand building is a fine example of the Indo-Saracenic architectural style.
6) Rajgir Hot Springs
Presently the most visited hot spring is in the eastern slope of Vaibhar hill. As there are multiple Hindu temple structures and tales related to Mahabharata with the main hot spring, it is very popular to Hindu pilgrims. This water is supposed to be healing, especially for arthritis and joint pains.
7) Vishwa Shanti Stupa
The magnificent white marble and concrete stupa dome rises about 125’ high that was built in 1969 at the top of the Ratnagiri hill to commemorate the Buddha. There are four golden Buddha statues around the dome. The sombre sound of the enormous gong emitting from the temple behind fills the entire space with an aura of sanctity.
8) Golghar
It is a granary built by Captain John Garstin, in 1786.After the devastating famine of 1770, which killed nearly 10 million people in regions of Bengal, Bihar and modern day Bangladesh, Warren Hastings, then Governor-General of India, ordered the construction of this beehive shaped structure for the purpose of storing grains for the British Army.
9) Jalmandir Temple
Pawapuri or Pava is a holy site for Jains located in the Nalanda district. Around 500 BCE the 24th Tirthankara Mahavira is believed to have attained Nirvana at this place. Also known as Apapuri meaning ‘no sin place’ is one of the most sought after destinations for the Jains. This cremation ground was considered very auspicious by the devotees and they collected soil from this site as holy relic.
10) Mahatma Gandhi Setu
It connects Patna in the south to Hajipur in the north of Bihar and is one of the longest river bridges in India. The bridge consists 45 intermediate spans of 121.065 metres (397.19 ft) each and a span of 65.530 metres (214.99 ft) at each end. The cantilever segmental construction method was adopted to construct this mega bridge.

A building in the shape of a beehive, Golghar originally served the purpose of a storehouse. It was built in 1786 by Captain John Garstin and provides a panoramic view of the entire city along with the River Ganga.
2.Patna Museum:
Situated in the city of Patna, Bihar, the Patna Museum, locally known as the Jadu Ghar is a very popular museum, storing more than 50,000 rare art objects, including Indian artefacts from the ancient, middle ages and the British colonial era. It was built in 1917 and was started on 3 April of the same year during the British rule to house the historical artefacts founded in Patna. 3.Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan:
Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan is located off Bailey Road in Patna, Bihar, India. The park was opened to the public as a zoo in 1973. The park is Patna's most frequented picnic spot, with more than 36,000 visitors on New Year's Day alone in 2011.

Takht Sri Patna Sahib also known as Harmandir Sahib, is a Gurdwara in the neighbourhood of Patna Sahib, India. It was to commemorate the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs on December 1666.
5.Mahavir Mandir:
Mahavir Mandir is the second largest religious shrine in North India. It is one of the leading temples dedicated to the worship of Lord Hanuman. Thousands of devotees from different parts of the country flock in here daily to offer prayer to and seek the blessings of Bajrang Bali. It is believed that Sankat Mochan Hanuman listens to the prayers of his faithful devotees hence if worshipped with a pure heart no wishes of yours would be left unfulfilled. Therefore, it is also known as Manokamna Temple.
6.Mahatma Gandhi Setu:
Mahatma Gandhi Setu is a bridge over the river Ganges connecting Patna in the south to Hajipur in the north of Bihar. Its length is 5,575 metres and it is one of the longest river bridges in India, inaugurated in May 1982 by the then Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi.

Buddha Smriti Park also known as Buddha Memorial Park is an urban park located on Frazer Road near Patna Junction in Patna, India. This park has been developed by the Bihar Government to commemorate the 2554th birth anniversary of the Buddha.

We visited this beautiful city on 22-23 April. On 21st April 2023 we board the Magadh Express from New Delhi Railway station at 9:00 pm. and reached Patna Junction at 3 pm next day. (Train was late by 2 hours). I booked a room at Adarsh International hotel (Opp Railway station). Room charge was as low as Rs 450. (Single occupancy). In the evening (22nd April Eid) we visited first five attractions (shown in this video).
Next Day (23rd April, Sunday) we have to return by Bramputar Mail at 12:50 pm. But before returning we visited Patna Sahib Gurudwara in the early morning. There are many EMU trains in the morning which takes only 30 minutes to reach the Patna Sahib Station. Gurudwara is 1.5 kms from the station. I was surprised to see that Langar starts at 6:30 in this Gurudwara. Bus takes much time so we preferred the train for return journey also. You can get a train 8 am, 8:40 am and 9 am.
Nehru Path, Eco Park and Bush Smiriti Park are really very impressive.
Don't forget to taste Litti chokha and Khaja during your Bihar visit.
Golghar can't be climbed because of renovation work is going on.
Metro work is also in full swing here. Official date to start operation is April 2025.

Once the capital of the Magadha Empire which later evolved to become the Mayryan Empire, Rajgir is a valley surrounded by hills. This is a very important seat of Buddhist worship in Nalanda, Bihar. Hinduism and Jainism are also practised by many out here. Rajgir, earlier known as Rajagriha or the King's home is also known to be a winter health retreat. This is because of the number of pools and natural springs here filled with warm water which have therapeutic values and goo for healing many bone and skin diseases too. The Buddha Temple here is also encompassed with a monastery and is a popular place for meditation. The white colour is a symbol of peace and the gold colour used for the spire of the temple is to show eternity and good taste.
