Siena, in the heart of Tuscany, is one of Italy's most popular destinations, a great medieval landmark to explore.
It's both a historic site and a vibrant modern city with excellent shopping, many fine restaurants, and beautiful pedestrian lanes throughout town.
We'll show you the busy main streets, always active with lots of people, and take you to those out-of-the-way little lanes, into the quiet residential neighborhoods.
The main piazza, called il Campo, and the Cathedral, called the Duomo, are two of the most important attractions that we will explore in detail.
Siena is so well-preserved that UNESCO has designated the entire old town as a World Heritage Site, not just one building or neighborhood, but all of the old town.
UNESCO describes Siena as an outstanding medieval city that has preserved its character and quality to a remarkable degree. It's a rare example of a medieval historic town of this size. The original urban form of the city, with its 15th century street plan, has been retained along with the Gothic design of its public buildings, palaces and tower houses, which remain unchanged.
Siena is a very livable city. It's built to a human scale, covering about a square kilometer, which makes it small enough that you can easily walk from one end of town to the other in a single day and see almost all of the sites in between. There's an endless variety of interesting things to see along your way.
Siena is a small city, but crisscrossed by dozens of little lanes that provide many miles of picturesque strolling opportunities for the ambitious trekker.
Siena is divided in three districts corresponding to the three ridges it sits on, North, West and East, with the Campo in the middle, the main piazza.
3:01 Main Lane
At the north end of the main shopping lane, via Banchi di Sopra, there is a pretty little square, Piazza Salimbeni, with Europe's oldest bank founded in 1472. This main shopping street is worth walking from one end to the other, perhaps stopping for a bite at one of the attractive little restaurants along the way. And narrow side alleys will attract you with their charms.
Escape the crowds by ducking into the side alleys, as we will be showing you here.
5:32
In the middle of it all is the Campo, the great piazza of Siena. Nearly 500 feet wide and surrounded by shops, restaurants, and the towering Palazzo Publico, this is the very heart of town. It's a great place to have an outdoor meal at one of the many sidewalk restaurants that are around it. You will find the experience of eating an evening meal at twilight, sunset on the Campo, is going to be one of the highlights of your trip,
12:30
Now let's take a walk in all those little back streets of town that are so wonderful, starting on the lower west side.
You'll find that when you get off the beaten track, these little lanes are a lot more interesting. Get away from other tourists and you'll start to feel like a local.
We're going to take you walking off the grid, further away from the tourist areas, further away from views and landmarks and famous churches, and just into this lovely, peaceful, residential neighborhood. There are a few shops, there are certainly always restaurants and cafés, mostly catering to the locals who live nearby.
17:02
We continue through the little side lanes and down to the Piazza Mercato. This place was the ancient market square which still today has an outdoor produce market several times a week. This Mercato is a lovely nook of the city, just two blocks south of the Campo, the main busy square, and yet 95% of the visitors never get here.
20:47
We continue walking on other nearby lanes, especially Gilio and Rossi, and various alleys that will lead us there and take us around.
For those travelers who love to get away from the shops and stroll through quiet residential alleys, Siena offers many more possibilities.
These little byways are your gateway to enter the authentic side of Siena.
22:48 The Duomo Cathedral
The great cathedral of Siena is the Duomo, just a few minutes’ walk from the Campo. It is one of the world's most beautiful and intriguing churches. It's a must-see on your visit, loaded with astonishing architecture, sculpture and paintings. More than just a religious structure of the Duomo is the economic symbol of wealth, international trade and cultural influences.
27:47 How to reach Siena
Getting from Florence to Siena is very convenient by taking the SITA bus. Their bus station is right in the heart of Florence, across the street from the main Florence train station.

Recanati stands on the top of a hill, whose winding crest is almost flat, at 293 m a.s.l., between the valleys of the Potenza and Musone rivers. It is about 20 km from the capital Macerata, 8 km from Loreto and just under 40 km from Ancona.

The Adriatic Sea, beyond which you can see the Dalmatian mountains when the air is clear, is about ten kilometers east of the city. To the north is visible Mount Conero which is lost in the waters and from the other sides of the city, neither closed nor limited by future elevations, the peaks of the Apennines are visible.
Like other towns in the Marche region, Recanati is also the typical balcony city due to the wide panorama that can be seen there: cities and villages are scattered in large numbers in the wide expanse, between floors, valleys and hills. the sea moves away and you can breathe a poetic atmosphere among olive trees and vineyards.
The museum circuit is a happy discovery of great names and places: the Renaissance master Lorenzo Lotto, the poet Giacomo Leopardi, the Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, the great tenor Beniamino Gigli, the beautiful Museum of Music, the breathtaking view that can be admired from the top of the Torre del Borgo and much more.

Curiosity:

✱????Mount Tabor is the Recanati hill that faces south: from it on days with little mist you can see very well the snow-capped peaks of the Sibillini mountains. Mount Tabor better known as the hill of the Infinite is also linked to one of the most famous idylls of Giacomo Leopardi: The infinite.

Mount Tabor today is a park that stands next to the Leopardian Studies Center and Palazzo Leopardi, along a path that crosses the park you reach the point where the poet probably found himself composing the poem, a plaque on the wall shows the verse: Always dear to me was this hermitage hill. Mount Tabor is also part of the poem Alla luna: in fact the poet always went to the hill to admire the 'graceful moon'.

Civitella in Val di Chiana is a comune in the province of south Arezzo in Tuscany. It is one of the best-preserved of the network of Lombard fortresses of the 6th and the 7th century in central Italy, strategically placed to control the whole territory. The characteristic elliptical shape of the military settlements can still be seen in the layout of the town walls.
Already inhabited in Roman times, it was occupied and fortified by the Lombards in the 6th century. In the 11th century it became a possession of the Bishops of Arezzo, and renamed Civitella del Vescovo (Little Bishop's City). In the 13th century the city was destroyed after the battle of Pieve al Toppo, cited by Dante Alighieri and fought nearby between Arezzo and Siena. After the Aretine defeat at Campaldino (1289) the city was annexed by Florence. In 1311 Arezzo regained it, holding until 1348, whenceforth it remained the seat of a Florentine podestà. Civitella enjoys one of the most scenic views of the Arezzo valley.

On 29 June 1944, 244 citizens of Civitella (146),Cornia,Solaia and San Pancrazio were massacred by Hermann Göring Division, in retaliation for the killing of two German soldiers by the hands of partisans.
In 1963 the city received the Gold Medal for Civilian Valour.
The city council has also opened a room of memories.

Buona visione!

BIBBIENA, AREZZO, ITALY (1 of 3)

Places to see in ( Mantova - Italy ) Teatro Bibiena

Places to see in ( Mantova - Italy ) Teatro Bibiena

The Teatro Bibiena di Mantova was made by Antonio Bibiena in 1767-1769 and decorated in 1773-1775 with a facade of Piermarini designed by Paolo Pozzo. Constructed for the Royal Virgilian Academy of Science and Arts (the Accademia Virgiliana), the theatre in Mantua was designed in late Baroque or early Rococo style by Antonio Galli Bibiena and erected between 1767 and 1769. With a bell-shaped floorplan and four rows of boxes, it followed the new style of theatres then in vogue. It was intended to host both theatre productions and concerts, and scientific discourses and conventions. Bibiena also provided the monochrome frescoes in the interior. The theatre is now considered to be his most important work.

It was opened officially on 3 December 1769. A few weeks later, on 16 January 1770, thirteen-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played a concert here, with resounding success. His father, Leopold Mozart, wrote about the theatre: In all my life, I have never seen anything more beautiful of its kind.

In 1773, Giuseppe Piermarini, who constructed the neighbouring palazzo for the Accademia Virgiliana, designed and built the façade of the theatre. Still used for its original purposes, it now can also be visited by tourists as one of Mantua's museums. The theatre is relatively small, with a scene 12,3 metres wide and 5,6 metres deep, and a maximum audience of 363 persons.

( Mantova - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Mantova . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Mantova - Italy

⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ ???????? Raggiolo - Hidden Village In Tuscany (July 2022) [4K]

Ortignano Raggiolo was founded when two towns, Ortignano and Raggiolo, joined together in 1873 after centuries of contrasting dominions, and is completely surrounded by chestnut forests. Ortignano was mentioned for the first time in 1247 and the name derives from the Roman person Hortinius, while Raggiolo was initially noted in 967 as Ragiola and comes from the Latin radius, that is, “border line”.

The history of this town dates to the 13th century, when the settlement was under the jurisdiction of the Guidi Counts from Poppi, one of the most powerful feudal dynasties and supporters of the Germanic empire. In the 14th century, the territory passed into the hands of the bishopric of Arezzo, where it remained until 1349, when it was taken over by Florence.

Florence to Siena by bus

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
Siena, in the heart of Italy’s Tuscany regions, is one of the great medieval cities to explore. It's a UNESCO world heritage site. It is so well preserved that it attracts visitors by the millions and yet most people don't spend the night here. They are visiting on a day trip, maybe three hours, half a day. So we’re going to show you some tips on how to get the most out of your visit. Siena has so many attractions we’ll be exploring it in several movies in our series. Most people who visit Siena are staying in nearby Florence just over an hour away by bus or by train or by driving. So we’re going to show you the best way to get from Florence to Siena, to begin your explorations. Like many travelers, you’re probably relying on public transportation to get around, like bus or train. And in getting from Florence to Siena a very convenient way to do it is by taking the bus, the SITA bus line, SITA. Their bus station is right in the heart of Florence across the street from the main Florence train station, and you can easily buy your bus ticket right on the spot at the bus station. Just get to the window, queue up maybe, if you're traveling on a weekend it'll be busier but during the week it's much better, there's fewer people, and you can get on your bus and head to Siena.
You want to be sure to catch the Rapida bus rather than the ordinary bus, because the Rapida is nonstop, it just takes an hour and 15 minutes so that's very convenient. The other bus does make three or sometimes four stops along the way, it could take you an hour and 40 minutes, so get the Rapida, it's the same price and more convenient. There is generally one bus an hour and you can check the schedule on their website. Lately they're leaving it 9:10, 10:10, 11:10 AM for example. And it's usually not too busy, especially if you're traveling during the week and during the off-season. On a weekend it'll be a lot more busy and you might have to stand – some people stand all away, it's possible, but you'd much rather have a seat. The bus seats are quite comfortable and you get a lovely view out the big windows of the rolling hills of Tuscany as you drive along. Most of the route is on a freeway so it's not the most scenic journey in the world but you do get nice glimpses of the vineyards and a few olive trees here and there, and the green hills in the distance. You might even notice of fortified hilltop village off on the right side of the bus. You could travel from Florence to Siena by train but it's really not convenient. It takes two hours, which is much longer than the bus ride, and when you get to Siena the train station is not in the Old Town – it's down below and it could take you a half an hour walking uphill to get to the Siena Old Town, so in this case going by bus between Florence and Siena is the best way to go. Upon arrival in Siena you'll probably want to use the facilities at the bus ticket office. They've got a pay toilet which is very clean and very convenient, and you could buy your return ticket if you didn't already purchase a round-trip ticket back in Florence. And if you're staying overnight in Siena for a few days you'll find that you can ride the bus to some of the other nearby towns of Tuscany. It's a very easy walk from this bus stop into the Old Town – it will only take a few minutes and then right away you're in the pedestrian zone. We have got several detailed movies about the visit to Siena walking the little lanes and bringing you into the great cathedral and explore the main piazza il Campo. Have a look at our YouTube channel and our website where you'll find more than 1000 travel movies.
