Moinak HPP named after U.D. Kantaeva is a hydroelectric power station on the Charyn River in the Kegen district of the Almaty region. The largest hydroelectric power plant in South Kazakhstan. The owner of the station is Moinak Hydroelectric Power Plant named after U.D. Kantaev, which is part of the state energy holding Samruk-Energy.
The Moynakskaya HPP is a high-pressure dam-derivation power plant with an inlet pressure diversion in the form of a tunnel. The installed capacity of the power plant is 300 MW, the design average annual electricity generation is 1,027 million kWh. The composition of the hydroelectric facilities:
- Rockfill dam with a loamy core 94 meters high and 515 meters long;
- a construction tunnel 714 meters long, 4.65×5 meters in section, combined with a mine operational spillway, with a capacity of 198 m³ / s;
- tunnel-type working water outlet with a length of 507 meters and a diameter of 3 meters, with a capacity of 75 m³ / s;
- water intake, combined with the inlet head of the working water outlet;
- inlet diversion tunnel with a length of 4912 km, horseshoe-shaped section 5 × 7 m, in the weakened zones of the rock mass - round section with a diameter of 5.6 m and 4.1 m;
- shaft-type surge tank with an upper chamber, 175 meters deep and 6 meters in diameter;
- turbine conduit with a length of 4301 km of circular cross section with a diameter of 4.1 meters;
- HPP building;
- a counter-regulatory structure, including a rock-and-earth dam, a spillway dam and a water outlet, with a reservoir with a total capacity of 1.2 million m³ and a useful capacity of 0.7 million m³.
In the HPP building, 2 vertical hydraulic units with a capacity of 150 MW each with bucket hydraulic turbines operating at a design head of 471.4 m are installed. The turbines are manufactured by the Austrian company Andritz Hydro, generators are the Harbin Electric Machine Plant from China. From the generators, electricity at a voltage of 15.75 kV is transmitted to two power transformers with a capacity of 200 MVA, and from them through an open switchgear with a voltage of 220 kV to the power system.
The HPP dam forms the Bestyubinsk reservoir with a total volume of 238 million m³ and a useful volume of 198 million m³, which allows for seasonal regulation of the flow, the mark of the normal retaining level of the reservoir is 1770 m, the level of the dead volume is 1736 m.

Мойнакская ГЭС имени У.Д. Кантаева - гидроэлектростанция на реке Чарын в Кегенском районе Алматинской области. Крупнейшая гидроэлектростанция Южного Казахстана. Собственник станции - АО «Мойнакская гидроэлектростанция имени У.Д. Кантаева», входящее в состав государственного энергохолдинга «Самрук-Энерго».
Мойнакская ГЭС по конструкции является высоконапорной плотинно-деривационной электростанцией с подводящей напорной деривацией в виде тоннеля. Установленная мощность электростанции - 300 МВт, проектная среднегодовая выработка электроэнергии - 1027 млн кВт·ч. Состав сооружений гидроузла:
- каменно-набросная плотина с суглинистым ядром высотой 94 метров и длиной 515 метров;
- строительный тоннель длиной 714 метров, сечением 4,65×5 метров, совмещенный с шахтным эксплуатационным водосбросом, пропускной способностью 198 м³/с;
- рабочий водовыпуск тоннельного типа длиной 507 метров и диаметром 3 метров, пропускной способностью 75 м³/с;
- водоприёмник, совмещённый с входным оголовком рабочего водовыпуска;
- подводящий деривационный тоннель длиной 4912 км подковообразного сечения 5×7 м, в ослабленных зонах скального массива - круглого сечения диаметром 5,6 м. и 4,1 м.;
- уравнительный резервуар шахтного типа с верхней камерой, глубиной 175 метров и диаметром 6 метров;
- турбинный водовод длиной 4301 км круглого сечения диаметром 4,1 метра;
- здание ГЭС;
- контррегулирующее сооружение, включающее каменно-земляную плотину, водосливную плотину и водовыпуск, с водохранилищем полной емкостью 1,2 млн м³ и полезной емкостью 0,7 млн м³.
В здании ГЭС установлены 2 вертикальных гидроагрегата мощностью по 150 МВт с ковшовыми гидротурбинами, работающими на расчётном напоре 471,4 м. Производитель турбин - австрийская фирма Andritz Hydro, генераторов - Харбинский завод электромашин из Китая. С генераторов электроэнергия на напряжении 15,75 кВ передаётся на два силовых трансформатора мощностью 200 МВА, а с них через открытое распределительное устройство напряжением 220 кВ - в энергосистему.
Плотина ГЭС образует Бестюбинское водохранилище полным объёмом 238 млн м³ и полезным объёмом 198 млн м³, что позволяет производить сезонное регулирование стока, отметка нормального подпорного уровня водохранилища - 1770 м, уровня мёртвого объёма - 1736 м.
