The Pinacoteca Nazionale is a national museum in Siena, Tuscany, Italy. Inaugurated in 1932, it houses especially late medieval and Renaissance paintings from Italian artists. It is housed in the Brigidi and Buonsignori palaces in the city's center: the former, built in the 14th century, it is traditionally identified as the Pannocchieschi (it) family's residence. The Palazzo Bichi-Buonsignori, although built in the 15th century, has a 19th-century neo-medieval façade based on the city's Palazzo Pubblico.
The gallery has one of the largest collections of Sienese paintings with gold backgrounds from the 14th and 15th centuries. Works in the gallery include:

Santa Corona is a Gothic-style, Roman Catholic church located in Vicenza, region of Veneto, Italy. The church contains the Valmarana chapel, whose design is attributed to the Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio.
Construction on the church was begun in 1261 by the Blessed (Beato) Bishop Bartolomeo di Breganze to house a thorn from the supposed relic of the crown (corona) of thorns forced on Jesus during his passion. The thorn had been given to this bishop as a gift from Louis IX of France. The church belonged to the Dominican order until suppression during the Napoleonic era.
The church has an altarpiece depicting, the Baptism of Christ (1500-1502) by Giovanni Bellini. The Thiene chapel has frescos by Michelino da Besozzo, and an altarpiece depicting an Enthroned Madonna and child venerated by Saints Peter and Pius V by Gianbattista Pittoni. Other works in the church include an Adoration of the Magi’’ by Veronese, a Madonna of the Star‘ by Marcello Fogolino, a St Mary Magdalen with Saints Jerome, Paola and Monica, (1414-1415) by Bartolomeo Montagna, a canvas depicting St Anthony and friars distributing alms to poor (1518) by Leandro Bassano, and two canvases with depictions of St Sebastian and St Martin by Battista da Vicenza.
After the death of one of his patrons, Antonio Valmarana, likely in 1576, Palladio designed this funereal chapel. Santa Corona had already been the church were other members of the family had been interred. Ten years earlier, Palladio had designed the Palazzo Valmarana in town for the family. The chapel was constructed by 1597, and family members transferred here. While there is no documentary evidence linking this design to Palladio, it highly resembles his chapels found at the Il Redentore in Venice.

Starting this month 9/8/2012 Chris Anthony Adventures and Valbruna Travel will start to organize bike trips to the North Eastern Part of Italy. We will stay at the Valbruna Inn but ride into Austria and Slovenia. We are going to start with road bikes and eventually have a mountain bike options or a mix.

In June, 2013, Bill and I traveled to Italy. We visited dear friends in Gallarate. We saw 2 beautiful lakes of northern Italy - Maggiore and Como. We followed the steps of St. Francis in Assisi and attended mass on Father's Day at the Basilica of St. Francis. We visited Varese - walking the Sacro Monte di Varese. In Milan we saw Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper and attended Wagner's Siegfried at La Scala. The whole two weeks we feasted on pasta, gelato, espresso, Pecorino Romano, olives and wine. Great trip.

If there is a word to describe Giada and Daniel is fun. They are a fun couple! Their complicity is simply extraordinary. It makes them so pleased to stay with. Their wedding resembled the way they are, no rules, no schedule, just the way you are and have fun!
I've been particularly attached to this wedding as Daniel is a very good friend of mine since our childhood. Having the pleasure to grow with him, being there once he met Giada and capture the wedding moments, it's something that made me particularly proud of!

Notizie sul luogo
La chiesa di San Clemente, isolata su un picco che domina il Lago Maggiore, è oggi raggiungibile tramite una comoda strada eseguita in occasione degli ultimi lavori di restauro. Sono scomparsi quasi del tutto gli antichi sentieri che salivano fin qui da Sangiano, da Caravate e dal San Biagio di Cittiglio, attraverso i quali i pellegrini di un tempo giungevano in questo luogo suggestivo, ricco di memorie storiche e circondato da leggende. Gli interventi eseguiti tra il 1965 e il 1975 per risanare l'edificio hanno portato ad alcune interessanti scoperte archeologiche anche se non sono riusciti a far piena luce sull'origine del monumento.
Canonici, eremiti, pellegrini
Alla fine del Duecento su quello che era definito monte di Leggiuno o semplicemente monte di San Clemente si trovavano, oltre al San Clemente stesso, due chiese rispettivamente dedicate a San Nicola e San Martino. La scoperta durante i restauri di materiali romani di vario genere, tra cui un ossuario, suggerisce l'ipotesi che l'insediamento cristiano sia sorto in continuità rispetto a un preesistente insediamento pagano, dotato di edifici di un certo rilievo. Qui già prima del Mille doveva esistere una canonica regolare con prerogative battesimali. Le visite pastorali del Cinquecento segnalano infatti ancora I’ esistenza delle rovine delle case canonicali e di una cappella dedicata a San Giovanni, con all'interno il fonte battesimale. Il ritrovamento di un pavimento altomedievale nella zona dell'abside rafforza questa indicazione documentaria. In seguito, mutato l'assetto del territorio, i canonici vennero trasferiti a Santo Stefano di Leggiuno, ormai capo di pieve, e gli edifici sul monte andarono lentamente in rovina.
San Martino e San Nicolao, già in cattive condizioni ai tempi di San Carlo, un poco alla volta crollarono e oggi ne restano poche tracce. San Clemente ebbe invece una nuova vita, come meta di pellegrinaggi e processioni provenienti da tutta l'area del Verbano, inclusa la sponda piemontese, e dall'alto Varesotto. Comparve la figura del romito, in parte custode, in parte monaco laico dedito ad una vita di povertà e penitenza, presente anche in altre chiese isolate della montagna varesina come il Sant' Antonio di Arcumeggia. Pellegrini e romiti crearono spesso dei disordini, complicati dal fatto che la chiesa era contesa tra Leggiuno, cui sempre era appartenuta, Sangiano e Caravate. La struttura della chiesa invece non venne sostanzialmente toccata, a parte i normali lavori di manutenzione, la chiusura del locale superiore adibito ad alloggio del romito, le consuete modifiche alle finestre. L'intervento più pesante si ebbe nel 1859 quando l'antica abside semicircolare venne sostituita con un semplice muro diritto posto a chiudere il presbiterio. Per costruirlo furono utilizzati pezzi provenienti dalla demolizione degli altri edifici del monte, tra cui frammenti di una colonna con un bel capitello preromanico. Questo muro fu a sua volta eliminato con gli ultimi restauri, quando si provvide a ricostruire l'abside rispettando i! tracciato originario che gli scavi avevano messo in luce.

Genova-Pop, Cattedrale di San Lorenzo
La cattedrale di San Lorenzo è il più importante luogo di culto cattolico della città di Genova, cattedrale metropolitana dell'omonima arcidiocesi.
È stata consacrata al santo il 10 ottobre del 1118 da papa Gelasio II quando ne esistevano solo l'altare e una zona circostante, riservata alla preghiera, ma nessuna struttura in elevato. Nel corso del XII secolo fu costruita, ma ancora nel terzo quarto del secolo restava incompiuta e priva di una facciata vera e propria.
In base ai ritrovamenti archeologici una comunità cristiana stabile è sicuramente presente nella città di Genova già nella metà del III secolo ed impiega effettivamente come luogo di sepoltura proprio la zona di San Lorenzo. Il cimitero era, in base al materiale rinvenuto, molto probabilmente impiegato già in epoca romana.
Una prima basilica vi sorse intorno al VI-VII secolo Una leggenda vuole che in città si siano fermati San Lorenzo e papa Sisto II, diretti in Spagna, venendo ospitati in una casa sita nella zona dell'attuale cattedrale, dove, dopo la loro uccisione, sarebbero sorte una cappella e poi una chiesa dedicate al santo.
Dal IX secolo, San Lorenzo affiancò, nella funzione di cattedrale, la Basilica dei Dodici Apostoli, dal VI secolo dedicata a San Siro, allora sita fuori dell'antico nucleo della città.
Nel 1007 la sede vescovile venne trasferita a San Lorenzo, e a partire dal 1098 venne iniziata la sua ricostruzione in forme romaniche con finanziamenti provenienti dalle Crociate, da altre imprese militari e tasse comunali. Il cantiere venne affidato ai Magistri Antelami, e rappresenta la base della chiesa attuale (le fiancate e i portali laterali). Il nuovo rango dell'edificio favorì l'urbanizzazione della zona che, con la costruzione delle mura, nel 1155, e la fusione dei tre antichi nuclei urbani (castrum, civitas e burgus) divenne il cuore della città. L'edificio venne consacrato nel 1118 da papa Gelasio II di passaggio a Genova e nel 1133 venne elevata al rango arcivescovile da papa Innocenzo II.
Verso il 1230 si decise una profonda ristrutturazione dell'edificio, in stile gotico. Si iniziò così la facciata dalla parte bassa caratterizzata dai tre portali gotici. Con l'incendio del 1296 l'edificio, assai danneggiato, viene rimaneggiato. Tra il 1307 e il 1312 si completò la facciata e si iniziò l'elevazione del campanile destro. Il progetto originale prevedeva l'elevazione di due torri campanarie, parte integrante della facciata. All'interno vennero rifatti i colonnati, con capitelli e falsi matronei, mantenendo le parti romaniche superstiti; la controfacciata viene affrescata.
Tra il XIV e il XV secolo vennero costruiti diversi altari e cappelle, fra i quali la Cappella di San Giovanni Battista nella navata sinistra, atta ad accogliere le ceneri del santo patrono della città, giunte a Genova alla fine della Prima Crociata. Nel 1455 si realizzò la loggia sulla torre sinistra; e al 1522 venne aggiunto il coronamento manierista a quella destra, completandola.
Nel XVI secolo ci fu un'esplosione del deposito delle polveri, vicino al Palazzo Vescovile, e le coperture presbiteriali e absidali del duomo furono gravemente danneggiate. Verso il 1550 il Consiglio cittadino commissiona all'architetto perugino Galeazzo Alessi un progetto di rinnovazione dell'intero edificio. Tuttavia i lavori non videro mai il compimento. Venne rifatta la parte absidale ed eretta la cupola sulla crociera, ma nel piedicroce si eseguirono solo le volte a botte, in sostituzione delle capriate lignee, e il pavimento. Questo cantiere vide la fine nel XVII secolo, quando l'abside venne decorata con le Storie di San Lorenzo da Lazzaro Tavarone, in un tripudio di stucchi dorati.
Tra il 1894 e il 1900 l'edificio venne restaurato sotto la direzione dell'architetto Marco Aurelio Crotta e con l'alto controllo di Alfredo d'Andrade.
