I am in the Czech Republic again to share with you my 3 favorite hikes, each of which are just a short drive from Prague. Two of the hikes I did with the Tour company Northern Hikes. Krivoklat Castle | Daytrip from Prague
Today we will travel 60 km west from Prague to visit a castle that was used as a prison. Many interesting prisoners were kept within its walls, even the famous emperor and Bohemian king Charles IV. But probably the most famous prisoner was an English alchemist Edward Kelley and it is his story that Valery will tell you today.
Getting to Krivoklat is pretty easy. Take a train from Prague's main train station or Smichovske nadrazi to Beroun and there change to a small train to Krivoklat. Make sure to get on the correct train when changing - either ask the conductor which platform it goes from or quickly check the board in the station building.

Czech food is fulfilling and delicious, especially satisfactory during the winter. I managed to find the Czech lunch place during the break time, the local Czech pub called U tri sedlaku (at three peasants). Garlic soup with melted cheese & Tripe soup marked the great opening of late lunch, followed by pork belly burger & beef goulash containing Czech traditional tastes. Ah, don't forget to enjoy Grog as the winter Czech specialty, a liqueur mixed with hot water.

Karlstejn Castle, Czech Republic Day Trip
We take a guided tour to the legendary Karlstejn Castle, the Czech Republic for a Day Trip. What we discovered totally blew our minds!
Karlstejn Castle was founded in 1348 by King Charles IV, who was then the Bohemian King and Holy Roman Emperor. The castle was used to protect the Imperial Crown Jewels and other sacred holy relics after construction was completed in 1365. Karlstejn castle dominates the skyline with a 60 meter high Great Tower and is equipped with massive fortifications.
This is a magnificent castle to visit, and it is less than an hour from the Czech capital, Prague! Whilst you can easily catch a train there, we decided to take a half day tour through GetYourGuide. It was cheap and thoroughly enjoyable. We rate this as one of the top things to do in Prague.
