Belizeans and Guatemalans Are Blood Brothers
Former Benque Viejo del Carmen Mayor Said Badi Guerra affirms Belize and Guatemala are blood relatives and nothing and nobody can alter this relationship. Mr. Badi was speaking at this week's 10K Guatemala-Belize Peace Run held in Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala, under the auspices of the O.A.S.

Benque Viejo del Carmen es un pueblo ubicado en el distrito de Cayo, en Belice, América Central. Es la ciudad más occidental del país y se encuentra cerca de la frontera con Guatemala. Benque Viejo, como se le conoce comúnmente, es un destino turístico popular debido a su rica historia, hermosos paisajes naturales y su proximidad a varios sitios arqueológicos mayas.
El nombre Benque Viejo del Carmen proviene del español y del nombre de una orden religiosa conocida como los Carmelitas. El término Benque Viejo significa banco viejo y se refiere a un antiguo banco de arena que solía estar en el río Mopan, que atraviesa la ciudad.

SOLO EL 1% DE BELICE VIVI AQUÍ BENQUE VIEJO DEL CARMEN
Benque viejo del Carmen un pueblo fronterizo poco conocido, todos los que ingresan o salen de Belice vía terrestre por la frontera de Guatemala, solo pasan por la avenida principal por carro o llegan a la estación de buses y luego directo a la frontera.
Nunca me imagine que había dos gasolineras (una creo que esta fuera de servicio), agencias de bancos (Belize Bank y Heritage Bank), una panadería y encontré un hotel pero parece cerrado.
Supermercados taiwanés por montones la verdad no sé porque, una combinación de casas de madera y de cemento, pocos edificios modernos. Encontré varias iglesias (evangélicas, testigos de Jehová y católica), según me cuenta el parque central del pueblo era el cementerio y que luego fue traslado a otro lugar, hay algunas tumbas todavía pero no se si será verdad.
Se ve como un pueblo tranquilo y con poco movimiento pero como dicen Líbrame de las aguas mansas que de las malas me libro yo uno nunca sabe.

Semana Santa (Easter) in Belize
Alfombras de aserrín, or sawdust carpets, are a traditional part of Semana Santa or Holy Week in Central America. This tradition is widely associated with nearby Guatemala, but it is still going strong in Benque Viejo del Carmen, a town in Belize just miles away from the Guatemala border.

Reserva Arqueológica de Benque viejo se encuentra en Benque viejo del Carmen en Belice, la realidad lo encontré buscando una pizzería en mapas de Google, lo que puedo calcular es que cabe en una cancha de foot ball y creo que sobra espacio.
Creo que es un lugar NO es muy conocido, visitado y hay muy poca información, no hay personal de seguridad, guías (no haría nada). Entre sin ningún problema y lo encontré bastante cuidado, aunque había botellas de plástico y algo de basura.
La visita no puede durar muchas más de 10 minutos, porque realmente no hay mucho que ver y creo que por eso los guías turísticos, no lo ponen en su agenda y prefieren llevar a las personas a Xunantunich que tampoco es muy grande.
Información de esta reservar arqueológica es casi nula en internet.

San Ignacio Belize Air BnB -Ms. Lola's Guesthouse on Benque Viejo Rd
While traveling to San Ignacio Belize we were lucky enough to get to stay with Mrs. Lola on Benque Viejo Rd. Ms. Lola is well known in the area, so although no houses have addresses and no streets have signs, you can just stop at a store and ask for Ms. Lolas Guesthouse on Benque Viejo Rd and its likely someone will be able to show you the way. Truth be told we were lost several times but there were always lots of great people to help show us the way. Ms. Lola's house is right under the pharmacy, next to the pawnshop in a bright yellow building. At $25 a night, the accommodations were wonderful and super private. We had our own private bathroom and entrance and even had use of the garage since we had a rental car. From her house, we headed just 14 km across the border to Guatemala to visit Tikal National Park. After stopping for breakfast at Bennys Kitchen in Benque Viejo del Carmen, we left our car at the border and took a 2 hr taxi ride to the Park because we had rented a car that couldn't cross the border. In hindsight, this was not the best idea so I'd advise against that if you plan to try to see Tikal, get a car that can cross the border. It's a little more expensive, but it saves a ton of time and money in the long run. We ended up having to hitchhike back to the Belize border from Guatalana, but that's another story for another day!

Belize City Tours Video
Belize City Tours Video, does not exactly top the list of Toursist destinations in Belize. In fact, many visitors choose to bypass the countrys only major urban area. This may be because the countrys main attractions are natural and nautical, rendering superfluous a prolonged visit to its only metropolis. An additional explanation is that the city has a bad reputation for poverty and crime.
Even those who admire its raffish charms and cultural vibrancy (and, to be fair, theres plenty of this) admit that -- unlike the rest of the country -- the city is not particularly relaxed. This said, the government has gone to greater lengths in recent years to make visitors feel safer in the city, including increasing the number of armed police and specially uniformed Toursist police in areas frequented by Toursers.
Belize City is the historical (if no longer the actual) capital of the nation, making it an interesting place to spend a day or two. Its ramshackle streets are alive with colorful characters who represent every facet of Belizes ethnic make up, especially the Creoles. The urban scenery encompasses not just fetid canals and grungy slums, but also handsome colonial houses, seaside parks, bustling shopping areas and sailboats that bob at the mouth of Haulover Creek. You might find Belize City menacing, but you certainly wont find it dull.

Xunantunich Mayan Ruin
Easily accessible from San Ignacio, western Belize’s hub for jungle adventures, Xunantunich is accessed by a hand-cranked ferry over the Mopan River.
This Maya site sits across from San Jose Succotz Village, which borders Benque Viejo del Carmen — the closest Belizean settlement to the Guatemalan border.
Xunantunich, meaning “Stone Woman” or “Maiden of the Rock” in Maya, is one of the most popular Maya temples in Belize, and it is unusual in that it grew in importance during the period 700 to1000 A.D. when most other ancient Maya population centers were declining.
.The core of the site has four main groups of buildings, the highest of which is El Castillo, which towers 130 feet above the plaza and has distinctly carved friezes on the east and west sides. From El Castillo, you can see sweeping views of nearby villages and across Guatemala. It is a great spot to just sit and enjoy a nice quiet and peaceful morning or afternoon.

Ráno se loučíme, jedou na výlet po řece a já pokračuji dál do města Corozal, které si projdu a pak jedu na hraniční přechod Santa Elena, Corozal - Subteniente Lopez, Quintana Roo. Překračuji most Subteniente Lopez přes hraniční řeku Rio Hondo a jsem v Mexiku.
