In this episode, we travel in our converted Ford transit campervan, to Benalla, Victoria, Australia. We camped one night at a free camp ground in Benalla right next door to the skate park. •Benalla ceramic mural
•The shed Benalla
•Benalla botanical gardens
•Frank and Irene's pet shop

Benalla Street Art
Benalla is known as the regional street art capital of Australia and is home to approx 85 street art murals. When in Benalla, wander the streets and lane ways of Benalla and discover amazing works by famed street artists: Adnate, Sirum, Kaffiene, Odeith and Dvate. All the street art murals can be discovered throughout the township and majority of them are all within easy walking distance. Maps can be picked up at the Benalla Visitors Information Centre.

Benalla Art Gallery.
Housed in iconic architectural buildings and set among beautiful botanical gardens, the Benalla Art Gallery offers an unforgettable experience of art. Since its beginnings in 1968, the Benalla Art Gallery has become one of Australia’s premier regional art galleries. The collection spans three centuries of Australian art and includes a small collection of European decorative arts.
The Gallery forms the foundation of Benalla’s artistic and creative culture.

Rustik Cafe & Foodstore
Rustik offers a range of foods that allows everybody to enjoy their eating experience. Rustik provides a range of tasty locally and regionally sourced produce that covers multiple dietary requirements and lifestyle choices, such as Vegan, Paleo, Keto, Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Low Fodmap.

Benalla ceramic mural
This community project and public space has intrigued all who have explored it. Created by skilled and unskilled artists alike with recognised input from aboriginal groups the curvaceous terracotta clay Ceramic Mural with its collanades, cave seats, thongaphones and amphitheatre invites the curious to explore its many features. Much of the ceramic work was completed by local artist Judy Lorraine and was begun in 1983 with funding from the Australia Council Community Arts Board. The mural evokes the structures and spaces created by the celebrated Spanish artist Antoni Gaudí.

We hope you enjoy our channel. We often get asked, ‘what is vanlife?’ Van life is a lifestyle of living in a vehicle full or part-time. The names are compound words that derive from the fact that it is typically done in a van that has been modified with basic amenities, such as house batteries, solar panels, a bed platform, some form of the toilet, sink, and storage space. Some van-dwellers live this lifestyle by choice while seeking freedom, self-sufficiency, and mobility without paying for conventional stationary housing, while for others it may be one step from living on the street or in a shelter. Although the term van-dwelling implies living in a van, many types of vehicles may be used for permanent, mobile living arrangements, including former public buses or school buses, campervans, recreational vehicles (RVs), travel trailers, mobile homes, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and cars.

We enjoy part-time van life, creating weekly episodes that are live at 5pm (AEST) Sundays, and sharing our experiences on our travels with our cavoodle, Twyla. In our episodes we stay at free and paid campsites, showing our tips and tricks on how to make life on the road easier and fun. Come join us on our adventures!

It’s great to see Australian tourism picking up with many people traveling around Australia in caravans, campervans, RVs, and camping in tents. If you enjoy traveling within Australia too, make sure you Like & Subscribe to our channel. Thanks for watching!

What to do/see in & around Benalla - Victoria - Silo Arts Trail

Winton Wetlands & Benalla Silo Art Trails

Mansfield was the next stopover on the trip. We took a detour to the Winton Wetlands (which wasn't that wet at this time) but the landscape was magnificent. Throughout the Wetlands, artists have added their own interpretation of the land.
Whilst in Mansfield we took a trip to the picturesque township of Jamieson but unfortunately the weather didn't allow us to get out of the car much to explore on foot.
Our plans were to travel to see family in Melbourne but COVID made us change plan and we opted to head towards the NSW border. This gave us the opportunity to see the Benalla Silo Art trail and we visited the small towns of Goorambat, Devenish, St James and Tungamah. These artists who create these works of art are just brilliant and hats off to these small communities for allowing their silos to be used as a canvas for the artists.

Albury (/ˈɔːlbəri/) is a major regional city in New South Wales, Australia. It is located on the Hume Highway and the northern side of the Murray River. Albury is the seat of local government for the council area which also bears the city's name – the City of Albury.

Albury has an urban population of 49,172[1] and is separated from its twin city in Victoria, Wodonga, by the Murray River. Together, the two cities form an urban area with a population of 93,603 at June 2018.[2] It is 554 kilometres (344 mi) from the state capital Sydney and 326 kilometres (203 mi) from the Victorian capital Melbourne.

Said to be named after a village in England, Albury developed as a major transport link between New South Wales and Victoria and was proclaimed a city in 1946.

The Wiradjuri people were the first known humans to occupy the area, (Wiradjuri northern dialect pronunciation [wiraːjd̪uːraj]) or Wirraayjuurray people (Wiradjuri southern dialect pronunciation [wiraːjɟuːraj]) are a group of Indigenous Australian Aboriginal people that were united by a common language, strong ties of kinship and survived as skilled hunter–fisher–gatherers in family groups or clans scattered throughout central New South Wales.

In the 21st century, major Wiradjuri groups live in Condobolin, Peak Hill, Narrandera and Griffith. There are significant populations at Wagga Wagga and Leeton and smaller groups at West Wyalong, Parkes, Dubbo, Forbes, Cootamundra, Cowra and Young

European settlement
Among the first squatters to follow in the steps of the explorers and settle in the district were William Wyse and Charles Ebden.
The first European buildings erected at the crossing place were a provisions store and some small huts. A survey for a town was commissioned in 1838 by Assistant Surveyor Thomas Townsend who mapped out Wodonga Place (the present Wodonga Place) as the western boundary, Hume Street as the northern boundary, Kiewa Street to the east and Nurigong Street to the south, with Townsend Street being the only other north–south road, and Ebden and Hovell Streets being the two other east–west roads. Townsend proposed the settlement be named 'Bungambrewatha', the Aboriginal name for the area, but when his plan was eventually approved and published in the Government Gazette on 13 April 1839 the name had been changed to Albury.[6]

Football in Benalla, Victoria, and finding vegan food and snacks on the road during van life [CC]

We headed to a van life friendly showground in Benalla, in Victoria, and stopped for some lunch before getting there. The showground had a sports field attached to it where we saw players practising AFL football, and a beautiful bridge and river where we went for an evening walk.

Alexis also discovered a delightful new combination of snacks.
