Catania & Etna - Italy | Sicily | 18 Things to Do | Travel video | GoPro 11 & DJI Mini 3 Pro
The island of Sicily and its city of Catania is amazing. I really enjoyed my 5 days trip there. And of course, I spend one day to go to the mount Etna. Etna is really intresting vulcano and it is intresting to visit this huge area. I was surprised how huge is the park around the volcano Etna. I spent practically the whole day there and it was a really amazing experience. I used the city bus from the center for 6 EUR and then used the cable car for 30 EUR. I had a lot of time and it didn't make sense to buy another bus ride for 36 EUR. Plus it was nice to walk around Etna.
I enjoyed classic summer days in Catania and stayed longer to enjoy the sun. Catania is the perfect city for autumn days in Europe. During my stay in Catania the temperature was around 24 degrees and I could walk around in t-shirts and shorts again. Catania is a small city, worth visiting the Piazza del Duomo with Fountain of the Elephant, Catedrale Sant'Agata and Castello Ursino. Of course I had many pizzas in Catania. Italy and food always are best combination.
Sicílie s městěm Catania jsou úžasné. Já jsem do Catanie vyrazil na 5 dní a samozřejmě jsem jeden den využil na návštěvu sopky Etny. Etna opravdu stojí za návštěvu. Byl jsem překvapen velikostí parku kolem Etny a na jednonnení výlet je Etna ideální. Využil jsem městský autobus z centra za 6 EUR a následně lanovku za 30 EUR. Měl jsem spoustu času a nemělo smysl kupovat další jízdu autobusem za 36 EUR. Pokud však budete mít méně času, je možné použít i poslední autobuse, ale nemyslím si, že to za tu cenu stojí.
V Catanii jsem si užil slunečné letní dny a zůstal jsem déle, abych právě načerpal sluneční energii během podzimu. Catania je z mého pohledu úplně ideální město pro podzimní dny v Evropě. Během mého pobytu v Catanii byla teplota kolem 24 stupňů a já jsem si chodil krásně v tričku a kraťasech. Catania je malé město a z mého pohledu stojí za návštěvu hlavně Piazza del Duomo se Sloní fontánou, Catedrale Sant'Agata a hrad Castello Ursino. Samozřejmě Italie a jídlo jdou vždy super kombinovat a já ochutnal několik místních pizz.

The Castle of the Baroness of Poira - Paternò - Sicily to Discover - Trekking in Sicily
We are in Sicily, in the hinterland of Paternò, in the province of Catania. The ruins of the Castle of the Baroness of Poira rise on a spectacular hill overlooking a vast hilly area characterized by barren gullies and wide valleys. The area, sparsely populated, is very suggestive, immersed as it is in the silence of its boundless spaces. The Simeto, the longest river in Sicily, is not far away. Etna, to the north, looms majestically.
The castle of Poira is actually not a real castle but an ancient fortified farm, built on previous buildings of probable medieval origin or perhaps even more ancient, as evidenced by the archaeological excavations that have brought to light a Greek necropolis and Roman structures .
The remains of the defensive walls, the cisterns, the ancient chapel have the desolate charm of abandonment and history that here borders on the crime story. In fact, at the end of the nineteenth century the place was the scene of an assault by a band of brigands from distant (for the time!) Palermo. The criminals entered the fortress thanks to the complicity of the baron’s campiere and kidnapped the Baron and his family inside for a whole day. It is estimated that the loot of the raid was very rich (around one million euros today). But the story does not end with the escape of the bandits. All the members of the gang, except one, were in fact exterminated in an ambush in the mountains of Palermo shortly after. The action was attributed to a rival group but it is believed that the principal was the Baron himself with the connivance of the Bourbon government.
Beyond the history, the place is certainly worth a visit. It is a piece of authentic Sicily, far from the most famous tourist destinations and little known even by the locals. Its scenic beauty makes it perfect for a day outdoors, preferably in Autumn or Spring when Nature gives its best. To reach the Castle you have to take the road that connects Paternò to Centuripe, leaving it at the old roadman's house and following a branch that climbs towards the hills. The road is not in excellent condition but with a little patience and prudence you can reach the district called Poira.

Cominceremo il nostro tour nella magnifica Piazza del Duomo, il cuore della città, dominata dalla maestosa Cattedrale di Sant'Agata e circondata da eleganti edifici barocchi. Da qui, ci dirigeremo verso l'Anfiteatro Romano, una testimonianza straordinaria dell'antica Roma.
Proseguiremo la nostra avventura nell'animato Mercato del Pesce La Pescheria, dove potrete assaporare i sapori autentici della cucina siciliana. Poi, visiteremo il Castello Ursino, un'imponente fortezza normanna che oggi ospita il Museo Civico, raccontando la storia della regione.
Amireremo la maestosità dell'Etna, il vulcano attivo che si staglia imponente all'orizzonte di Catania, offrendo spettacolari panorami e avventure uniche. Cammineremo lungo Via Etnea, la via dello shopping della città, e ci fermeremo a Villa Bellini, un'oasi di tranquillità nel cuore di Catania.
Esploreremo l'arte e la storia del Monastero dei Benedettini, oggi sede dell'Università di Catania. Poi, visiteremo il Teatro Romano, un antico teatro che offre una vista straordinaria sul Monte Etna, un'esperienza indimenticabile.
Infine, ci sposteremo ad Aci Castello e Aci Trezza, due incantevoli borghi costieri con il castello normanno di Aci Castello e una vista panoramica mozzafiato sulla Riviera dei Ciclopi ad Aci Trezza.

Exploring SICILY, TAORMINA and CATANIA

Exploring Sicily, Taormina, and CataniaIn this video. We stayed in Taormina at the beautiful Grand Hotel Mazzaro 'Sea Palace. With stunning views and a great breakfast, this is one really unforgettable hotel.
From the hotel, we went to explore the city center and mainly Teatro Antico di Taormina.
Made sure to try traditional granita and brioche from Bambar.
Got Sicilian cannolis from i dolci di Nonna Rosa.
Ate lunch at Ristorante Al Duomo with stunning views of the center.
From Taormina, we took a day trip to Catania.
Went to the famous fish market.
Ate a delicious lunch at Vuciata Kitchen Market.
