Places to see in ( Belluno - Italy )

Places to see in ( Belluno - Italy )

Belluno, is a town and province in the Veneto region of northern Italy. Located about 100 kilometres north of Venice, Belluno is the capital of the province of Belluno and the most important city in the Eastern Dolomites region. With its roughly 36,000 inhabitants, it is the largest populated area of Valbelluna. It is one of the 15 municipalities of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park.

The ancient city of Belluno rises above a cliff spur near the confluence of the Torrente Ardo and the Piave River. To the north is the imposing Schiara range of the Dolomites, with the famous Gusela del Vescovà (Bishopric's needle), and Mounts Serva and Talvena rising above the city. To the south, the foothills of the Alps separate Belluno from the Venetian plain. Further to the south is the Nevegal, in the Castionese area, well known for its skiing resorts. The average annual temperature in Belluno is 9 °C (48 °F), and the average annual precipitation is 137 cm (54 in).

State roads lead from Belluno to Feltre, Treviso, Ponte nelle Alpi and Vittorio Veneto. Belluno railway station, at Piazzale della Stazione, forms part of the Calalzo–Padua railway. It was opened in 1912, and replaced an earlier station opened in 1886. Its passenger building, designed by the architect Roberto Narducci, was constructed in 1928. The bus station is also at the Piazzale della Stazione, next to the railway station.

The name of the city is derived from Celtic belo-dunum which means splendid hill. The name was inspired by the favorable position within the valley. It is conjectured that the population of the area that became Belluno was largely Venetic with a strong Celtic minority. However, as the Romans expanded northward into the Alps, the Celtic either emigrated or were absorbed. The people of the area swore friendship to Rome in the 225 BC conflict with the Gauls and again during the invasion by Hannibal in the Second Punic War.

Alot to see in Belluno such as :

The Duomo (Cathedral, 16th century), with the 18th-century bell tower designed by Filippo Juvarra. The church's plan is attributed to the Venetian architect Tullio Lombardo
Palazzo dei Rettori (1491)
The red edifice of the Communal Palace
The Bishop's Palace, erected in 1190 by the count-bishop Gerardo de' Taccoli
The Fountain of Piazza del Duomo
Baroque church of San Pietro (1326), originally in Gothic style. It includes five paintings by Andrea Schiavone, three by Sebastiano Ricci.
Palazzo del Capitano
The 16th-century church of San Rocco
The church of Santo Stefano, housing several 15th-century paintings by local masters. It also includes an Adoration of the Magi, from Tiziano's workshop.
The Romanesque church of San Biagio
The Porta Dojona and Porta Rugo gates in the ancient walls
The 16th-century church of Santa Maria dei Battuti

TOP 3 Circular HIKES in the DOLOMITES Italy

Download the GPX tracks of the hikes!

If you want to support the channel and my adventures :-)

Dolomites are one of my favourite mountain areas, and the best way to discover them is HIKING!
In this video I'm giving you 3 advices about circular hikes (or round trips, loops, whatever..) to do in the Dolomites.
NOTE: you need to have experience with hiking to complete these trails.
The difficulty is increasing, the first one is relatively simple (but still 900m elevation gain which is no joke), the second one is intermediate and the third one is VERY HARD. I highly suggest you to split the itinerary in two days and stopping at one of the huts you find on the trail (booking required).

Croda da Lago Circuit:
Starting from the road from Cortina D'Ampezzo and Passo Giau (Ponte Ru Curto), you will follow the wonderful Val Formin till Forcella Rossa, then you will cross the Mondeval Plateau to reach Forcella Ambrizzola, Lago Federa, and back to the parking lot. Amazing views of Pelmo, Antelao, Tofane, Sorapis and Croda da Lago of course.

Tre Cime/Croda dei Toni:
Starting from Val Fiscalina (after Moso, Pustertal) you will turn right at rifugio fondovalle, and after a couple hours you will reach Rifugio Locatelli, in front of the spectacular Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen). Then you will pass below Monte Paterno and will make it to Rifugio Pian di Cengia, then Rifugio Zsigmondy with an incredible view of Croda dei Toni, and then back to Val Fiscalina.

Monte Civetta Circuit:
Starting from Palafavera, Val di Zoldo, You will reach Malga Pioda and then Rifugio Coldai. You will turn left and follow the amazing Sentiero Tivan, with Civetta on your right and Val di Zoldo (amazing Pelmo) on the left. The trail goes up to Forcella delle Sasse, and then goes down till Rifugio Vazzoler. You will keep hiking around Civetta and you will make it to Rifugio Tissi. Spectacular spot to spend the night. Then following the Western face of civetta you will reach Lago Coldai and then finish the loop hiking back down to Palafavera.

Passo Giau | The Most Beautiful Pass in Northern Italy | Living in Italy | belluno

This is in my opinion the most beautiful pass of the Dolomites. We come and stay here few times per year. We include this location on almost all of our tours.
Passo Giau is simply Breathtaking! It is a high mountain pass in the Dolomites in the province of Belluno in Italy. It connects Cortina d'Ampezzo with Colle Santa Lucia and Selva di Cadore.

It is located at the center of a vast mountain pasture at the foot of Nuvolau (2,574 m) and dell'Averau (2,647 m) from which you can easily reach the Monte Pore (2,405 m). Impressive is the view west towards Colle Santa Lucia with the Pale di San Martino, Cime D'Auta, Marmolada, Piz Boe and Setsass, just to the east towards the valley of Cortina d'Ampezzo, with Tofane, Croda Rossa, Pomagagnon, Cristallo, Croda da Lago, etc.

This video is simply a bunch of clips I had on my phone and put together. Because of COVID, we haven’t been able to visit this year.
Thank you for watching!
