Bishnupur is a town in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal. It’s known for its Hindu temples made from local terracotta, such as the pyramid-shaped Rasmancha, established around 1600.
Ornate carvings adorn the walls of Jor Bangla Temple. North, Madan Mohan Temple is decorated with scenes from Hindu legends, including the Mahabharata. In town, the Bishnupur Museum displays manuscripts and ancient sculptures.

Bishnupur or Vishnupur is a little town in the Bankura district of West Bengal. The town was the administrative capital under the reign of the Malla kings. It is believed that the town derives its name from the Hindu God, Vishnu. Bishnupur has a rich cultural past, and much of this is evident in the architecture and intricate handicraft that the town boasts of. The town is especially known for its intricate terracotta work. The most convenient way to reach Bishnupur is by train. Bishnupur (Station code : VSU ) is well commented by train from Santragachi, Howrah and Kharagpur.

Best time to visit :
Winter is the ideal time to visit Bishnupur. Although one may visit bishnupur throughout the year.
What to see in Bishnupur :
Rasmancha : Rasmancha was build by malla king Hambir, this is the oldest structure of Bishnupur. Entry fee : ₹30/ head.
Gumghar :
A sasure structure located on the top of a small mound. Some opine that it was a prison while others believe it was a granery.
Shyamrai Temple : This is popularly known as Panchachura Temple because of its five pinnacles.
Jor Bangla Temple : Locally known as Kestorai Temple.
Radheshyam Temple : Just adjacent to Jor Bangla temple there is a temple with one pinnacle named as Radheshyam temple. There is an Islamic style gate infront of this temple.
Other places are : Lalji Temple, Stone Chariot, Madan Mohan temple, Dalmadal canon, Chinnamasta Temple, Bishnupur Mela, Bishnupur Pora Matir Haat (Every Saturday 1pm onwards), Baluchori Saree Shop and Panchmura Terracotta Village.
Entry fee: ₹30/head for Rasmancha, which can be used for other temples of Bishnupur.
Parking fee : ₹30 for each places.
Food : Average meal ₹250 (Lunch, Dinner separately)

Visit to Bishnupur, Bankura, West Bengal
Bishnupur is a town in the Bankura District of West Bengal and located at about 132 km from Kolkata. It is famous for its terracotta temples and Baluchari sarees. The town has a glorious past that is reflected in its rich architecture, music and handicrafts such as pottery and weaving. It prospered in the 17th and early 18th centuries. Ruled by a line of Hindu Rajas of the Malla dynasty, Bishnupur developed a unique form of architecture and has perhaps the most brilliant and detailed terracotta work in Eastern India that has withstood the ravages of time. The Terracotta tiles depict stories from Ramayana and Mahabharata. The Temples like the Shyam Ray Temple, the twin shrines of Jorbangla and the Rasmancha are a must visit. Apart from its heritage, Bishnupur is also known for its traditional handloom sarees. Pottery, artiefacts and even jewellery made of terracotta in Bishnupur are also very popular. Bishnupur is also famous for the School of Hindustani Music which flourished under royal patronage along with the Bishnupur School of Painting. This style of music is still being kept alive in local academies of music. The history of Bishnupur can be traced back to 694 AD, when King Raghunath founded the Malla dynasty. However, it was much later in 994 AD that the place was named Bishnupur. The name is derived from the name of the Hindu God Vishnu. The most powerful king of the dynasty was King Raghunath Singh Dev II, who ruled from 1626 AD. At that time the administration of Bengal was in the hands of Shah Lahan and his son Shuja. He developed a close friendship with the king and there followed a period of peace when art and music already flourishing, reached great heights. It was during this period that the Jorbangla Temple was erected.

The shape of the dam is crown or necklace shape that's why it's name is mukutmanipur. If you visit in Mukutmanipur you can watch Kangshabati Dam,Mushafirana View Point,Pareshnath Temple,Deer Park,Nohadihi Sunset Point,Ambika Temple.

# Biharinath is also a popular hill of Bankura District. This hill bears the ancient jain culture of undivided Bengal. This the highest hill of Bankura District. It's height is 1449 feet. This hill changes it's color according to change of seasons. Here you can find palash and shimul flower in spring season. But in monsoon season the hill becomes lush green. You can watch famous Biharinath Temple in this hill.

Bishnupur, the temple town of West Bengal is ideal for a weekend trip from Kolkata. On 20th Feb 2022, we went to Bishnupur from Kolkata by Car. In the first part of our Bishnupur journey, we enjoyed the journey from Kolkata, a birds' eye view of Joypur Forest, Rasmancha, Gumghar, Pancha Ratna Temple, Radhya Shyam temple, Jor-Bangla Temple, Mrinmayee Temple, Lalji Temple. But in this second installment, you can experience Dalmadal cannon, Chinnamasta Temple, Jor Mandir (Twin Temples), Poramatir Haat, Ravankata Mask, Baluchari Saree making, Dasabatar card, Madanmohan Temple.
We will also know the history of Bishnupur or Mallabhum and the Malla Raj. So, in this Bishnupur travel guide, you will get all information related to Bishnupur tourist spots.
Bishnupur is also famous for its terracotta art. Terracotta literally means baked earth in Italian but Bishnupur has some of the finest terracotta art in the world. The terracotta art of Bishnupur reached its zenith during the period of Malla Kings of seventeen century.

The most convenient way to reach Bishnupur is by train. Bishnupur (Station code: VSU ) is well commented by train from Santragachi, Howrah, and Kharagpur.
