Svishtov (Свищов) - home of the Holy Trinity church, filmed with a drone

Svishtov town in Bulgaria, filmed with a drone

Saturday afternoon was favorable for flights and I was able to capture some of the features of this beautiful town. If only Sunday was not that gloomy and rainy we would have shot many more interesting places, at least now we feel an urge to go back. This is the town of Svishtov, a place rich of history and essential for the Bulgarian renaissance and cultural awakening during the late Ottoman rule and after the reestablishment of our sovereign status. This is the first town that has been liberated during the 1877-1878 Russo Turkish war and the city keeps many building and monuments from this era and before it, and only a little part of all we were able to have a closer look at that day. Most prominently, passing peacefully besides the city is the Danube river, separating the country from Romania, which can be clearly seen in the distance with its closest city Zimnicea. The first half of the video is centered around one of the most famous landmarks of the city – the church Holy Trinity, built by the renowned architect Nikola Fichev (Kolyu Ficheto), who gave birth of a number of significant structures scattered mainly in northern Bulgaria. Near the church is the famous High school of Trading “Dimitar Hadjivasilev”, finished in 1895. Going along the main street we land on the northern part, where on a scenic hill once protecting the city stay the ruins of an old fortification, called Kaleto, records say 4th century was when its construction began. The park and amphitheater around provide a pleasant way to relax and look at the city and the river from higher ground, appreciating the town in its whole beauty. Right below the park, the first building is the Academy of Economics “D.A. Tsenov”, attracting students from the whole country with its fame, sadly a bit tarnished in the last years. This academy has always been invigorating the place with young people. We flew over another famous landmark on our way to the center, which is the old Clocktower, built by an architect named Bogdan. Little is known for this gentleman, but the tower stands tall for more than 250 years after its construction in 1763 year. The center area is briefly covered and will be left for future flights, so we go over to another old church, called Holy Transfiguration of God, built in 1836 year. Near that church is the house and museum of Aleko Konstantinov, one of the many famous people born in the town, but my coverage was not extensive of the house, perhaps next time I’m here we will take a spin. It can clearly be spotted by a huge Bulgarian flag waving in the wind. The last church we visit on the way back is the oldest of them all – St. Dimitar (or Demetrios), which is the one I got baptized in an age ago. I ended our aerial walk with this personal symbolic place for me place, with a desire to come back soon and capture more.

Belene Labour Camp ( #Concentration #Camp )

Beni PATREON'da destekleyebilirsiniz / You can support me on PATREON

#Belene Labour Camp (Concentration Camp)

Belene labour camp is located on Belene Island, between two branches of the Danube river. The Belene Prison is still operating as a penitentiary in the western part of the island, while the eastern part is a managed natural reserve. This camp operated officially from 1949 to 1959, though a break in deportations to Belene occurred from 1954 to 1956. In the video you will see the camp and listen to the people who are talking about that severe repression.

Danube crossing, Oryahovo, Vratsa Province, Bulgaria, Europe

Oryahovo is a port city in northwestern Bulgaria, part of Vratsa Province. It is located in a hilly country on the right bank of the Danube, just east of the mouth of the river Ogosta, a few more kilometres downstream from where the Jiu flows into the Danube on Romanian territory. The town is known for the ferry service that connects it to the Romanian town of Bechet across the river. There are also plans by local private companies for a bridge across the Danube. As of December 2009, Oryahovo has a population of 5,400 inhabitants. The town's name has evolved through the course of history, with names such as Vrhov, Orezov, Oreov and Rahovo being mentioned in documents until the current one was officially established in 1886. The area around Oryahovo has been inhabited since ancient times, as archaeological research has proven with findings from the early Neolithic to the Late Middle Ages. A fortress called Kamaka is located 1 km east from Oryahovo, which existed from the 9th to the 14th century. In 1396, the city, already controlled by the Ottoman Turks, was sacked and its Ottoman civilian inhabitants killed while the prisoners massacred by French crusaders heading towards Nicopolis. The troops of Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund and Polish King Władysław III of Varna passed through the fortress during their unsuccessful crusades against the Ottoman Empire. During the Bulgarian National Revival, Oryahovo established itself as an economic and industrial centre and a key point for the supply of the Ottoman Empire with goods through the Danube. The town was mentioned as an important Danube port in a 1762 book printed in Brussels. The St George Church was opened in 1837, a secular school was built in the town in 1857 and a community centre followed in 1871. During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78, the town was liberated on 21 November 1877 by Romanian forces after three-day fighting. A memorial by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Zocchi was erected in their honour. After the liberation, Oryahovo was known for the lively trade and rich cultural life. A provincial centre for three months, it became the centre of an okrag for 10 years (1877-1882 and 1884-1889). The architecture from the period is typically influenced by the one of Western Europe, with many such buildings being preserved today. A railway line linking Oryahovo with Cherven Bryag was constructed in 1926, a new church, the Assumption of Mary Church, opened in 1930, and a new building for the community centre was built in 1936 after a project by two Vidin architects. Some of the first industrial companies in the city, a spare parts factory and a metalworking company, were opened in 1961. Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant, a short drive west of town, is also a major employer. The ferry Oryahovo - Beckett, crossing Danube, is one of the main transport corridors from Bulgaria to Romania. This is the most direct route from Sofia to Romania, Ukraine and other countries.

Neszebar Bulgária ősi városa. /Old Town of Nessebar/

Neszebar Bulgária ősi városa. (Old Town of Nessebar). A Fekete-tenger partján fekvő Neszebár óvárosa egy örök szerelem számomra. Volt szerencsém többször sétálni ódon falai között a köves kanyargós kis utcáin, amit átitat a történelem illata. A jellegzetes bolgár faburkolatú építkezés uralja a város arculatát, a közöttük kígyózó köves utcácskák igazán romantikus hangulatot teremtenek. A városka felfedezése közben szerettem megpihenni, felfrissülni valamelyik taverna teraszán és nézni a tengerpartot, a hullámok táncát, a sirályok civódó csapatait a levegőben és a parti sziklákon. A felvételeket június végén készítettem az óvárosban.

Neszebar, a bolgár tengerpart legrégebbi városa. Neszebar, the oldest town on the Bulgarian coast. Old Nessebar – „legszebb óváros”
A bolgár tengerpart déli részének leghívogatóbb városa Neszebar, melynek óvárosát 1983-ban avatták a Világörökség részévé. Az óváros eredetileg egy kis szigeten fekszik, amit egy keskeny földszoros köt össze a szárazfölddel, ettől aztán félszigetté vált.
A település rendkívül egységes, a kis utcákban hagyományos építészeti stílusban épült apró házakat találunk.
- A félsziget bejáratánál lévő, török korban épült szélmalom,
- 4.-5. századi bizánci kapubástyák
- Eleuszi Szűz Mária templomának romjai, 5.-6. század
- Sztarata Mitropolija, régi püspöki templom, 5.-6. század
- Keresztelő Szent János-templom, 10.-11. század
- Szent István-templom, új püspöki templom, 10.-11. vagy 12.-13. század (az építési idő vitatott)
- Pantokrátor-templom, 12.-14. század
- Mihály- és Gábriel arkangyal-templom, 12.-14. század
- Aleiturgétosz (fel nem szentelt) Szent János-templom, 14. század
- Megváltó-templom, 17. század
- Szent Paraszkeva-templom
- Szent Tódor-templom, 18. század
- Műemlék házak: Szkuliev-ház, Hadzsi-Tranosz-ház, Kjucsuk-ház, Csimbulev-ház, Vasziloglu-ház

Today the old part of the town has regained its original romantic atmosphere: narrow cobblestone lanes, tiny squares, two-storeyed period houses with stone-built ground levels and wooden upper floors jutting above the streets and external staircases, gift shops, pubs, tavern and lovely flower gardens.

The Devil's Bridge | Bulgaria

I heard about this bridge some time ago and decided that during our stay in Bulgaria this June 2019 ...

Enjoy the flight and find below some more information about this old arch bridge

The 'Dyavolski most' is an arch bridge over the Arda River situated in a narrow gorge. It is located 10 km (6.2 mi) from the Bulgarian town of Ardino in the Rhodope Mountains and is part of the ancient road connecting the lowlands of Thrace with the north Aegean Sea coast.

Dyavolski most was rebuilt between 1515 and 1518 by the Bulgarian Master Dimitar under the Ottoman occupation of Bulgaria. The legend has it, the bridge was built by the Romans to link the Aegean Sea and the region of Thrace in Bulgaria. The bridge, the largest and best known of its kind in the Rhodopes, is 56 m long and has three arches, but also features holes with small semicircular arches to read water level. The Dyavolski most has a width of 3.5 m and its main arch is 11.50 m high. A stone parapet, 12 cm in height, is preserved on the sides, and breakwaters are placed opposite the stream.

For the legend, it is said that you can see the devil's head when tilting your head and looking at the reflection of the bridge in the water on a sunny day ...

For the rest of the legend about this bridge, you can check this website:
