Exploring GERMANY'S Amazing CASTLES: Road Trip Through Mosel Valley (Part 1)

What's the first thing you think of when you think of Germany? Okay, maybe it's not Germany's beautiful castles, but something like beer, bread or the Autobahn. But we think that castles should also be very high up on that list!

In this video (which is part 1 of 2), we go on a road trip in Germany, our home country, to explore Mosel Valley and go on a medieval castle hopping tour. Mosel Valley is a popular travel destination, for Germans and travellers from other countries as well. Mosel valley is one of Germany's 13 wine areas and it's well known for its excellent Riesling wines. The area also played an important role in Roman as well as medieval times, which is when the castles were built that we'll visit on this trip.

First up we visit Eltz castle (Burg Eltz), one of Germany's most beautiful and in our eyes underrated castle. We then drive to Beilstein and hike up to Metternich castle to enjoy a great view of the Mosel river. We also have lunch in Beilstein to eat German asparagus, which is in season right now. It's also one of those foods that German worship and that almost everyone goes crazy about when it's in season. We then make our way to Geierlay suspension bridge. It used to be the longest suspension bridge in Germany and it's publicly accessible 24/7. A more adventurous experience than we expected!

Also be sure to join us in part 2 of this German castle series when we visit Cochem castle and then end our road trip by sleeping in a medieval castle!

Beilstein - A dreamy town along the Moselle river | Rhineland-Palatinate | Germany

Beilstein is a small picturesque town located on the banks of the river Moselle. The town is defined by its medieval townscape. It is located in a cirque with steep wine slopes, crowned by the ruins of the Burg (castle) Metternich.

In the center of the town is a cozy market square decorated in baroque style. High on top of the St. Joseph's Cone is the Baroque church, built in the 17th century on Gothic foundations. At the top, one can view the romantic town with half-timbered houses that stand close together in winding streets.

Beilstein, Germany - Dornröschen der Mosel / The Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle. A Walk in 4K

Go on a virtual walk (ambient sound only) through Beilstein, Germany - a little historic town along the Moselle river, perfectly preserved and with more charming views than permanent residents. They don't call it the sleeping beauty of the Moselle for no reason. If you love wine, you're in for a treat from Europe's steepest vineyard (in-person visits only, cannot be served in 4K...yet).

The small village has one of the best preserved historical appearances on the Moselle and is thus also sometimes known as a miniature Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Dornröschen der Mosel (Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle). Towering above the village, which despite its small size is built to look much like a town, are the ruins of Castle Metternich, which once belonged to the like-named noble family.

Beilstein | Mosel | Rhein-Eifel.TV

Beilstein - Medieval castle, beautiful scenery, tasty wine.

Please join me in a walk around castle Hohenbeilstein which is located in a town of Beilstein. This castle was highly likely build in 11th century, and still has some visible oldest parts, dated by 13th century. The castle has vineyards which provide grape for the vine. You can buy local vine from the shop at the bottom of the vineyards. Castle is known by it's Falcons and Owls, and the shows which take place from March till November.

The small farm shop (or Hofladen) is located in a nearby town. It supplies the locals with fresh bread, fruits, vegetables and milk.

Adorable and Charming Town #2: Beilstein on the Mosel River

It's not for nothing that millions of travelers cruise on the Rhine and Mosel Rivers (Mosel is spelled both Mosel and Moselle - either is correct), drive from town-to-town by automobile, bike, hike and use other public transportation.

Beilstein is another one of those drop-dead adorable medieval towns that has Metternich Castle dating from 1268 perched above. It's only a one-hour boat ride from Cochem which passes the steepest vineyards in the world. If I missed anything, don't you!
