L'Aquila is a city and comune in Central Italy, both the capital city of the Abruzzo region and of the Province of L'Aquila.
Close to the highest of the Apennine summits, L'Aquila is positioned at an elevation of 721 meters (2,365 ft) in the Valley of the Aterno-Pescara, situated between four mountain peaks above 2,000 meters (6,600 ft). The mountains block the city off from warm humid air currents from the Mediterranean and give rise to a climate that is cool in comparison to most of central Italy, and dry. It has been said that the city enjoys each year 11 cold months and one cool one.

The modern-day Bolzano was in ancient times a marshy region inhabited by the Raetian Isarci people, traditionally believed to be descendants of Etruscan refugees fleeing Italy from the invading Gauls.
The Romans built a settlement after the area had been conquered in 15 BC by general Nero Claudius Drusus. The military settlement, Pons Drusi (Drusus Bridge), was named after this Roman general.
In 1948 the tomb of the roman citizen Secundus Regontius with Latin inscriptions dating to the 3rd century was found, making him the oldest known inhabitant of Bolzano.

SCAFFAIOLO, il lago montano
Con Eleonora abbiamo percorso un itinerario semplice e adatto a tutti, un vero must dell'escursionismo dell'Appennino Tosco-Emiliano. Dal versante toscano siamo partiti dalla Doganaccia per giungere al suggestivo lago Scaffaiolo dove lì abbiamo piantato la nostra tenda in occasione della notte di San Lorenzo.
