Chiang Mai was founded in 1296 and it's the capital of Chiang Mai Province in northern Thailand. The name means New City in Thai. That's because back then it became the new capital of the Lan Na kingdom (an ancient kingdom that existed in the area). The city was also very important historically. It's strategically located on the Ping River (a major tributary of the Chao Phraya River), and close to major trading routes.

In the past, Amphawa was a small community that prospered in trade and agriculture. Amphawa floating market was used as the communication center of the Samut Songkhram province. A community of people lived by the river. Houses are located along the river to make it easier to transport by boat. People in early times traded on boats and earned a living.
The Amphawa floating market is very natural and there are many old wooden houses. Tourists will see the lifestyle of the locals and you will see the beauty of fireflies at night under the Lampoon trees. This makes people feel that they are going back to the old times.
In the Amphawa floating market, there are many shops such as souvenir stores, restaurants, ice-cream shops, and others. Most souvenir stores usually sell clothes. Tourists can buy many souvenirs in the Amphawa floating market.
It is an afternoon Floating Market by the Canal near Wat Amphawan Chetiyaram (parking area is available). On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, during 12.00 a.m.-8.00 p.m., the Amphawa Canal is occupied by vendors who pack their boats with Food and drinks, such as fried sea mussel, noodles, coffee, O-liang (iced black coffee), sweets, etc
Opening days : Friday-Sunday Opening hours : 2.00-8.00 p.m. About Amphawa Amphawa Floating Market is one of Thailand's floating markets which is old and very popular among tourists. This floating market is also one of the top Samut Songkhram's tourist attractions. Because it is not far from Bangkok, every Friday-Sunday the market will be packed by the tourists who come to enjoy Canalside views or having delicious Food. All visitors can purchase seafood, local Thai dessert or souvenirs for friends and family. Moreover, the visitors can have a boat tour to see views and lifestyles along Amphawa Canal. At night, the visitors can arrange for a boat trip to watch fireflies in cork trees as a fascinating night scene of the day. Places nearby King Buddhalertla (Phuttha Loet la) Naphalai Memorial Park : visitors can see people's way of lives, traditional Thai houses and antiques from early- 19th-century Siam. Wat Bang Kung : a temple where a seated Buddha covered in twinkling gold leaves, an unseen picture of Thailand, was located. The Nativity of Our Lady Cathedral : an ancient and beautiful Catholic church with Gothic style which is one of the most beautiful churches in Thailand. Tha Kha Floating Market : a market located in Samut Songkhram for over 100 years with a lively scene of vendors paddling boats to sell things in the morning. Bang Noi Floating Market : a little ancient market with its charm and tranquility where visitors can experience canalside lifestyles in the morning. Getting There and Away
Car : take Rama II road (Thonburi-Pak Thor), Highway 35 to Km.63 going to Samut Songkhram province. Then, take Highway 325 (Samut Songkhram-Bang Phae) to Km.36-37, turn left to King Buddhalertla (Phuttha Loet la) Naphalai Memorial Park. The market is nearby the park.

One of Chiang Mai's best places if you love Buddhist and Hindu art and culture. Here is a private museum in Chiang Mai, Thailand, that you will love for 2023. It is Roi Dvarapala Ban Devalaya, which translates to Baan Devalai Artist Temple, but is known as the Ganesha Art House. It is truly a hidden gem, tucked away in a quiet neighborhood and down a narrow street. But once you arrive you will be stunned by the beauty of this historic home, turned into a museum celebrating Buddhist and Hindu culture. There are huge carvings of a three-trunked Ganesha and Hanuman, as well as murals and paintings - all carved into wood - not on canvas. The works are by many artists over more than a 15-year period. Admission is free, but donations would be welcome to support this worth passion-project.

Welcome to our temple tour in Chiang mai !!!
Chiang mai temple tour was our last day in this beautiful city. As we haven't showed you much of temples in Chiang mai yet ;) we have decided to explore Chiang mai old town on our last day and show you around.
Temples we have visited in this episode: Wat Chiang man temple Chiang mai, Wat Chedi Luang temple Chiang mai and Wat Sri Suphan temple Chiang mai (Silver temple Chiang mai).
In our opinion these are must see temples Chiang mai and definitely add this to your list of things to do in Chiang mai.
While we were exploring Chiang mai we have met so many lovely people, we were stopped all the time by the locals and other Thai people just because they wanted a chat or practice their English, which we thought it was very nice.
Our favourite temple was Silver temple Chiang mai (Wat Sri Suphan temple).

The night market is the largest in Chiang Mai province, where vendors fill the streets with delicious food, cold drinks, and unique handicrafts. This market is our favorite way to end a Sunday night, and we recommend it to anyone visiting Chiang Mai in 2022.
