Top best places to visit in Cork, Ireland
Cork, the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland, lies in the south of the country.

In reference to the city’s role during the Irish Civil War Corkonians often refer to the city as “The Real Capital”.

The center of the city forms an island between two channels of the River Lee.

There are about thirty bridges over the North and South channels.
On the banks of the river is the National Monument.

On the island are located also many important buildings, such as:
The Courthouse.

The Holy Trinity Friary, a Roman Catholic church affiliated with the Capuchin.

The Triskel Arts Centre, an 18th century Church turned into the Center for Contemporary Arts.

The Opera House which has always housed performances of all types and the Crawford Art Gallery a museum dedicated to the visual arts.

And finally the City Museum, which is mainly focused on the history and archeology of the Cork.

Adjacent to the museum Fitzgerald’s Park is a perfect place for a walk and a rest.

There are important landmarks outside the main island as well, such as:
The City Hall, the administrative headquarters of Cork.

The magnificent St Finbarr’s Cathedral, a fine 19th century neo-Gothic church.

The central bell tower of the Red Abbey, one of the last remaining visible structures of Cork.

And the castle-like City Gaol, a restored 19th century former prison, which is now a museum.

Everybody can enjoy the variety of architecture at the University College Cork being open to the public.

A great example of modernist style is within the grounds of University, the Lewis Glucksman Gallery.

Having been active military and police barracks for more than 400 years, the Elizabeth Fort was a 17th-century defensive fortification on high-ground.

From there you can enjoy the beautiful view of the city.

Another good place to see the city from high up is from St Anne’s Church, which is on the other side of town.

This Is Bandon (HD)

This Is Bandon (HD)
Droichead na Banndan, meaning the bridge of the Bandon River, is just 20 miles west of Cork city and lays claim to the title of being the gateway to West Cork.

It is close to Ireland’s second city, is in the heartland of some of the richest and most beautiful farmland in the country, and is just a 10 minute drive to some of Ireland’s most spectacular coastline.

Be you a visitor, a resident or someone doing business in Bandon, the town has a lot to offer.

The town is also a mere 30 minute drive from Cork city and the airport.

One of the town’s biggest assets is the Bandon River. Judges in the national Tidy Town’s competition once commented; “Bandon, more than any town in the region has an abundance of natural habitat for wildlife. The majestic Bandon River is a haven for wildlife.”

The town has seen a huge amount of development take place over the last few years.. With such development, the population of the town has almost doubled, but Bandon still manages to retain a tight community spirit.

This spirit is shown through the Bandon Music Festival which attracts some of Ireland’s most talented musicians, and the stunning Christmas light display, which illuminated the town for the first time in 2007.

Not just a Mecca for shopping, Bandon is also a business hub with some well known national and international companies based here including car dealerships, property developers and financial services

They say nobody can be all things to all people. In Bandon, they certainly give it their best to cater for all people.

Give Bandon a try, you’ll be pleasantly surprised

Castle Bernard - Bandon

Castle Bernard lies west of the town of Bandon, in County Cork in Ireland.

The first building at this site was a medieval castle that had belonged to the O'Mahoney family. In 1715 that castle was named Castle Bernard after its then owner.

In 1788, Francis Bernard, the 1st Earl of Bandon, demolished much of the old castle and erected a new building in front and slightly to the east of it. It is the ruin of that new building that we see today. So, this isn't a real castle but a castellated mansion.

In the early 20th century Castle Bernard was inhabited by the 4th Earl of Bandon; James Francis Bernard and his wife. They regularly held large parties at their castle.

On June 21, 1921 the IRA came to Castle Bernard with the objective to kidnap the Earl. The Earl and his staff however, had taken refuge in the cellars. As they could not find the Earl, the IRA then set fire to the castle. Then the Earl and his party came out of the cellars and he was kidnapped nevertheless. Castle Bernard completely burned down and was never rebuilt again. Three weeks later the Earl was finally released.

At present the area around Bernard Castle is a golf course. The ruin of the castle itself is fenced off due to danger of collapse, so not accessible. A very nice ruin.

Walking Tour - (4k) Old Town Bandon, Oregon

Bandon is a small town located on the southern Oregon coast and has a population of about 3,000. It was named by George Bennett, an Irish peer, who settled nearby in 1873 and named the town after Bandon in Ireland, his hometown. It is also sometimes called Bandon-by-the-Sea.

Bandon has a lovely beach with interesting 'sea stacks', a marina, the Coquille River lighthouse, and is the home of the famous Bandon Dunes golf course. It has a variety of lodging in all price ranges as well as a number of restaurants. Face Rock Creamery is located in town. South of town you'll find miles of cranberry bogs, as 95% of Oregon's cranberries are grown in Bandon.

The core part of Bandon is called Old Town, although it's not really very old! Nearly the entire town was burned in a massive 1936 fire which spread rapidly via the oily gorse bushes which ironically were imported by George Bennett.

Bandon was named one of the Coolest Small Towns in America by BudgetTravel. The Old Town Marketplace Farmers/Artisan Market is open Fridays and Saturdays 10am to 4pm, from the first of May through December. Enjoy a leisurely walk through a piece of Americana discovering boutique shops, art galleries and tasty treats.

Bandon

In 2016, I had to leave my beloved San Diego, which had been home to me for almost 20 years. My husband and I decided to move to Bandon, Oregon, where I have lived for the past four years - well, except for a seven-months stint in Arizona....

I wanted to make this video for my friends and family so they could see the beautiful scenery of the Oregon Coast, specifically the little coastal town of Bandon-By-The-Sea.

All drone videos were taken in accordance with State and local law.
