Is Batangas worth visiting? Meeting friendly Filipinos in Balayan, Philippines.
What is there of interest for tourists in Batangas? The friendly to foreigner vibe that I'd picked up in Nasugbu was even more prevalent in Balayan. Like, why would anyone want to tour or stay in Balayan? There’s literally nothing here.
I stayed in Casa Ilustre, a lovely hotel for 4 nights. I also tried Lomi, the speciality dish of Batangas province. It’s amazing how as a foreigner - as soon as you walk off the beaten track, people will pay more attention to you. Walking around Balayan people were really friendly, wanting to engage with me. But the best part of staying there was working in a comfortable hotel room.
I'd stayed in Tagaytay for 6 nights. One night at that horrible OYO place with the thin bedsheets and threadbare towels. Then 5 nights at the AIrBnb in at Cityland. I booked for 2 nights initially, then kept extending. When I arrive in a place I don’t really know how long I’m going to remain there. I just stay until I feel ready to move on. I don’t wanna journey to a different destination every night as that becomes a drag. Also when I arrived in Tagaytay I wasn’t feeling good, so I was glad to stay in a comfy condo although I didn’t even get to use the lovely outdoor swimming pool there.
Many expats settle in Tagaytay City. Well, it’s hardly a city, it’s just a few streets. Sure it has the population of around 90k giving it City status, but a city for me has to have a centre, a plaza, a soul. The beauty of Tagaytay lies in the surrounding areas and if I had a family, and a car it would be a great place to set up shop with it’s a beautiful lake and scenery.
But I haven’t got a family, nor a car and I’d get bored there quite quickly as it’s not really a proper city like Cebu or Manila that has a lot more going for it.

It was a 3-hour 40-minute hour drive thru #Startollway, #SLEX, and #C5 from #Marikina. This beautiful city's roads are fast filling up with vehicles.
