Sights of BAIS CITY| Dewey Island | Negros Oriental

Three years ago we were already once in Bais City. Our daughter Jenny had invited us before we left for home in Cagayan de Oro City for a trip to the dolphins and the famous Manjuyod White Sandbar. At that time, we had set sail from the jetty of Dewey Island in a big outrigger boat.

The other reason at that time was to rent the space for another MIRACLE WASH LAUNDROMAT in Door 3, Ark Plaza 2, Juan Luna St., Bais City, Negros Oriental, Philippines - 0917 319 7494

The competent and friendly staff is waiting for your laundry here in Bais City and in three other locations in Negros Oriental.

This time we took a closer look at Dewey Island and visited the Coast Guard, went up the mountain to the lookout point, and finally paid another visit to the pier.

Since I myself am a Knight of Rizal, I have not missed the opportunity to give my respect to the Rizal statue in Bais City.

BAIS CITY DOWNTOWN WALKING TOUR | Metro Dumaguete Negros Oriental | Explore DUMAGUETE

BAIS CITY DOWNTOWN WALKING TOUR | Metro Dumaguete Negros Oriental | Explore DUMAGUETE

This video is a Walking Tour Vlog in Downtowm Area of Bais City, Negros Oriental.

Bais, officially the City of Bais is a 3rd class component city in the province of Negros Oriental, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 84,317 people.

Etymology
In the early days of Spanish exploration, some Spaniards came upon a swampy land and docked their boats at the vicinity of the two small islets that guarded the village. While exploring the place, they saw natives fishing along the coast. The Spaniards approached the natives and asked for the name of the place. The natives could not understand Spanish, and believing that the Spaniards were asking for the name of their catch, the natives answered saying Ba-is; from that day on, this swampy valley of the Old Panlabangan and Talamban Hills became known as Bais.

Geography
Located 45 kilometres (28 mi) from the provincial capital Dumaguete, it has a land area of 31,964 hectares (78,980 acres). There are two bays in the area, hence the name Bais. The shore line is mostly mangroves, which are in danger of destruction due to the increasing population. The richness of marine life in the bays is because of these mangroves.

Bais’s name is derived from the Visayan word ba-is for brackish-water eel – a fish species native to the city and one which has become the city's delicacy. A former barrio and later a municipality, Bais, officially became a city on September 9, 1968 (R.A. No. 5444).

The territorial jurisdiction of Bais includes two islets (Olympia and Dewey) and the Bais Bay. The Bais Bay area holds a diversity of animal life and is a rich breeding and fishing ground for demersal and other fish species, and also invertebrates. South Bais Bay is also famous for dolphin watching.

The Pelarta River runs beside the city center. There is, however, a dispute that the name Bais was taken after the eels locally called bais that used to thrive in this river. The river has been the source of irrigation water for the nearby sugar farms. This has been vital in the success of sugar plantations in this area. This river also has a big influence on the city's geography, as it deposits sediments in the former mangrove areas during the (formerly annual) flood season. These former mangrove swamps have now dried out and become populated with residents. In the late 1970s, under the Genaro Goñi administration, a river control system stretching from the city center toward the low-lying areas was established in order to lessen flooding during the rainy season.

Manjuyod Sandbar: Negros Oriental | Truelocal Philippines

The Manjuyod Sand Bar is considered one of the main attractions of the province of Negros Oriental. ????????????☀

The white sand bar of Manjuyod is a strip of pristine white sand located at about 15 minutes boat ride from the coast of Bias City, in the Negros Oriental Province of the Philippines. The surface of this island emerges only during low tide and there are native wooden houses built on stilts. When the high tide comes, these houses look like they are floating on the water.

Bais Sandbar, Maldives of the Philippines (MUST WATCH)

Bais or Manjuyod Sandbar is one of the most visited Tourist attraction in the Philippines. Bais Sandbar is commonly called nowadays as Maldives of the Philippines. Sand Bar (White Sand) Beach. It is a beach surrounded by water. That means you will have to ride a pump boat in order to get there.
A narrow seven kilometer strip of white beach sand located in the middle of Bais Bay.

The area is visible only during low tide and disappears at high tide.

Manjuyod Sandbar via Bais City in Negros Oriental/ Dumaguete Tour/ Vlog Review No. 69

Dubbed as the Maldives of the Philippines, this sandbar located between Manjuyod and Bais in Negros Oriental is one of the most visited tourist spots in the Negros Island.

According to the locals we spoke to, this white sandbar is about 7 hectares wide. Unfortunately we were not able to see the sandbar on it's full glory, since it was high tide when we get there. We went in the afternoon, so it was no longer the best time to enjoy this spot.

Well the good thing is, we were able to save some money, since they gave us a bit of a discount for our boat ride going to the sandbar, since we won't be able to see the entire stretch.

The best time to visit this place is in the morning, when it's low tide.

From Dumaguete City, we rode a bus going to Bais City. At Bais just take a tricycle to the boat terminal, where you can join group tours or hire a boat of your own.
