A visit to Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany

Welcome to our video of the magnificent city of Regensburg in Bavaria, Germany.

A popular place to visit in Germany. With its layers of history with the remains of Roman times, to medieval Altstadt or 'Old Town' perched on the banks of the River Danube.

Our brief video will look at this Bavarian gem, starting in the old town and wander through its squares & streets (Platz & Straße), taking in Rathausplatz, Haidplatz, Bismarkplatz. Admiring historic buildings like Goliath House, as well had the cities towers, Porta Praetoria, Römerturm and the South Tower on the Old Stone Bridge.

Then possibly my favourite tourist attraction the Historische Wurstküche - The Sausage Kitchen - all too brief. There is a correction to the audio - in the clip, I say it's been serving food since the 17th Century, It's actually the 12th, 1147 to be precise - Thanks to Tobias Leuthold for pointing that out.

We cross the Danube on the Old Stone Bridge to Stadtamhof, before taking in views of the city by crossing back again on the old iron footbridge.

The final look is at some of Regensburg's churches including its Dom or St & finally, the not to be missed Peter's Cathedral Saint Emmeram's Abbey

Thanks so much for watching, and we'd love to hear from you so please leave a comment and don't forget to ????- subscribe so you don't miss any of our travels:

Regensburg (Germany) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Regensburg in Germany.
Regensburg is Germany’s mediaeval wonder and capital of the Bavarian Oberpfalz which is often described as Italy’s most northerly city. Much prized in Europe and designated by UNESCO as a unique cultural and historical monument and also the hometown of Pope Benedict XVI. The mighty dome of Sanct Peter marks the centre of the Old Town and the impressive Episcopal Church stands on the site of a Roman building. An equestrian statue of King Louis The First guards the building which was modelled after various French Gothic cathedrals in around 1250 A.D. The Ancient Town Hall is one of the oldest in southern Germany and was built in the thirteenth century. The city’s wealthy citizens featured grand ballrooms on the first floor of their residences therefore the Town Hall could have nothing less grand and so the Imperial Hall was built. In the 19th Century Regensburg could be described as having been a ‘Sleeping Beauty’ because this city on the Danube lacked industry and therefore the new wealth. The fact is though that both history and the Old Town have made Regensburg a World Heritage Site.

Walking in REGENSBURG / Germany ????????- Thurn & Taxis to Dreifaltigkeitskirche - 4K 60fps (UHD)

The Bavarian town of Regensburg is one of Germany's oldest towns, founded by the Romans in 179 A.D.. Regensburg has a well preserved old town which is UNESCO World Heritage site since 2006 which we visit sometimes here on POPtravel.

On this summer afternoon we our tour starts at the Thurn & Taxis castle. We explore the old town of Regensburg afterwards where we see sights like the Medieval town hall with Baroque & Gothic elements. The Regensburg's St. Peter's Cathedral is also not to be missed.

This time we cross the Danube river, pass the Stadt am Hof towards the Steinweg-Pfaffenstein district where we walk up the hill. There at the Dreifaltigkeitskirche we have a nice view over Regensburg and end our walking tour.

You can find more walks of Regensburg from POPtravel here:

15 Walking tour Regensburg and its Jewish History December 11 2015

15 Walking tour Regensburg and its Jewish History December 11 2015 For Chanukah, Shabbat and my dad’s birthday on Friday December 11, I explored what was the oldest Jewish Community in Southern Germany with Sylvia Seifert of Shalom in Regensburg. The unique memorial Stumbling Stones has small stones on the street were Jews lived. The eldest document in which the Jewish community of Regensburg is mentioned, was written in the year 981.

Porta Praetoria was built in 179 AD and is nearly 2000 years old. In 2006, this town was named a UNESCO site including the bridge which is over 800 years old. After World War 2 this is where Oscar Schindler and his wife lived. We saw brides at City Hall as many people get married on Friday. We had a lovely stroll through this incredible and historic town.

I sailed with Viking River Cruise on the Romantic Danube in December 2015. See all 22 videos from my voyage:

Regensburg in 7 Minuten 4K - SCHÖNSTE BAYERN ???? | Travel Cubed [Deutschland]

Regensburg is a city in south-east Germany, situated at the confluence of the Danube, Naab and Regen rivers. Regensburg is the fourth-largest city in the State of Bavaria after Munich, Nuremberg and Augsburg. The city of Regensburg is the political, economic and cultural centre of Eastern Bavaria and the capital of the Bavarian administrative region Upper Palatinate.

The medieval centre of the city of Regensburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a testimony of the city's status as cultural centre of southern Germany in the Middle Ages. In 2014, Regensburg was among the top sights and travel attractions in Germany. Generally known in English as Ratisbon until well into the twentieth century, the city is known as Ratisbonne in French and as Ratisbona in Italian, Portuguese and Albanian.

Regensburg is situated on the northernmost part of the Danube river at the geological crossroads of four distinct landscapes:
To the north and northeast lies the Bavarian Forest (Bayerischer Wald) with granite and gneiss mountains, wide forests and its national park. To the east and south-east is the fertile Danube plain (Gäuboden) which are highly cultivated loess plains. The south is dominated by the tertiary hill country (Tertiär-Hügelland), a continuation of Alpine foothills. To the West is Franconian Jura (Fränkische Jura).

Regensburg Hauptbahnhof (central station) is connected to lines to Munich, Nuremberg, Passau, Hof and Ingolstadt and Ulm. The city lies also on two motorways, the A3 from Cologne and Frankfurt to Vienna, and the A93 from Holledau to Hof. The local transport is provided by a bus network run by the RVV (Regensburger Verkehrsverbund).

A Day in Regensburg, Germany! | Historic Old Town, Old Stone Bridge + Walhalla

Regensburg is an incredible place to visit, and even though it was a chilly winter day, we still had an amazing time exploring parts we hadn't been to before. Don't think you have to go here only in the Summer, there are plenty of food options and sights to keep you occupied when the snow is flying.

This trip was full of ups and downs dealing with COVID restrictions, our camera and keeping our little one warm. But, we had a great time nonetheless and can't wait to come back during the warmer months to experience more of what Regensburg has to offer.

Befreiungshalle Kelheim, Germany 4K

#greetingsfromGermanyZbyglus The Liberation Hall is a monument on the Michelsberg above the town of Kelheim in Lower Bavaria. Seen from Regensburg it stands upstream of the Danube at the confluence of the Altmühl or the Main-Danube Canal with the Danube. The Liberation Hall was built in memory of the battles won against Napoleon during the Wars of Liberation from 1813 to 1815. The building was commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria.
The mighty-looking round building made of Kelheim limestone rests on a three-tiered base, which is designed as an eighteen-cornered polygon. The outer facade is subdivided by 18 buttresses, which are crowned by 18 colossal statues of Johann Halbig as allegories of the German tribes that took part in the battles. These are: Franconia, Boehmen, Tyroler, Bayern, Oesterreicher, Prussen, Hanoveraner, Maehren, Sachsen, Schlesier, Brandenburger, Pommern, Mecklenburg, Westphalen, Hessen, Thueringer, Rheinlaender, Schwaben (all around in this order with an arbitrarily chosen beginning) .
