Ep11 - TOP 6 best things to do in BACALAR, MEXICO! (Lake of 7 colours, is it worth the hype?)

Episode 11 - Bacalar, Mexico
In this episode, we share our top 6 best things to do in Bacalar, Mexico. Also known as the laguna de los 7 colores due to the different shades of the mesmerising water - we had heard about Bacalar from so many different travellers, so we were sure to add it to our itinerary. In this video we try to answer the question - does Bacalar live up to the hype?

Note: this was filmed in April 2021, we read many reports that the lake had lost its distinctive colour due to intense rainy season in 2020. Although not back to its supposed best, we found the lake to be beautiful and mesmerising, with the ecosystem clearly recovering and in a better place than it was!

MEXICO'S HIDDEN PARADISE | Bacalar, Mexico Travel Guide

????WATCH NEXT Best Cancun Tacos:
❤️ Travel Deeper Merch ($20 Tees):
???? PLEASE SUBSCRIBE:

Bacalar, Mexico - About a 4-Hour drive south from Cancun, there’s a paradise that’s relatively untouched by most foreign travelers.

If you're looking where to stay in Bacalar, in my opinion, the best resort in Bacalar is Mia Bacalar

The town of Bacalar in Quintana Roo, sits at the very southeastern tip of Mexico, and its position along the absolutely stunning Bacalar Lagoon makes this place worth the offbeat journey; come on let me show you why. Here are the best things to do in Bacalar, Mexico in one day!

Cenote Azul - Cenote Azul is one of the deepest cenotes in all of the Riviera Maya, at some 90 Meters or 290 feet deep and this beautiful dark blue pool presses right up against the ridiculously tropical turquoise waters of the lagoon, which we’ll jump into next.

Fort San Felipe - Spanish Conquistadors successfully took Bacalar in 1543, but that didn’t stop pirates from raiding and terrorizing this paradise all throughout the 1600’s. They could easily enter up through a canal in the lagoon, so this fort was incredibly important to protect the city from, well, yet another intruder.

Bacalar Lagoon Boat Tour - Now, I promise this isn’t just another boat trip scene, this insanely gorgeous, freshwater lagoon is known as Lake of Seven Colors, as the variety of blue and turquoise hues make this place so unique. A White sandy bottom, cloud coverage and water depth causes colors to morph into varying shades of gatorade like mother nature’s own tie-dye. And we find one incredible inlet sandbar to drop anchor and join the party. This is most definitely the best thing to do in Bacalar!

Best Places to Eat in Bacalar - Then, the only thing that can pull me away from this perfect scene, it’s time to head back on shore, for lunch at Kai Pez in downtown Bacalar, right next to Bacalar Lagoon.

Los Rapidos - Alright, there’s just one more place I want to show you for the day, if you promise to be cool about it. A turquoise-colored natural lazy river in the middle of nowhere! Now, If you come here based on this video, please make me proud and don’t touch the side walls of this river.

This is a very sensitive habitat, made beautiful by one lagoon runoff and those same estromatolitos (Stromatolite) we spoke about early. All of the white exterior are living microorganisms that will die if disrupted, just like coral. The trick is, get in and out and designated locations and just let yourself float down stream. It’s amazing.

We stayed at the beautiful Mia Bacalar, right on Bacalar Lagoon. I highly recommend this resort in Bacalar!

Yes, technically there are alligators in Bacalar Lagoon although we never saw any. How to Travel Bacalar Mexico 48 Hours | BETTER than Cancun

48 Hours in Bacalar, Mexico covers the best things to do. Day 1 we travel to Los Rapidos which is just a short taxi ride from downtown Bacalar. Los Rapidos is located on the narrow channel that divides the lagoon of Bacalar with the lagoon of Xul-Ha. Day 2 we rent a sailing boat and take it out on Lake Bacalar for a full day of fun in the sun. Lake Bacalar is some of the bluest water we've ever seen. It's known as the lagoon of seven colors and the Maldives of Mexico. Bacalar is a hidden oasis that's not known to many but could easily be the next Cancun or Tulum! After 4 hours enjoying the sailing life we head to downtown Bacalar and check out the main square, and Fuerte De San Felipe. We highly recommend traveling to Bacalar, Mexico!

IS THIS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN THE YUCATAN PENINSULA? | Bacalar, Mexico ???????? (A Local's Guide)

Bacalar Mexico really did a number on us! We thought that after visiting Punta Allen we would have a hard time finding anything like it, but Bacalar did not disappoint! Sure, it's not as secluded as a remote fishing village, but Bacalar offers the perfect balance between local and traveler friendly.

The Bacalar lagoon, known as the seven color lagoon is one of the most INCREDIBLE places we've ever seen, and in today's video we share how to watch the most beautiful sunrise from the lagoon (on your own) and the more local side of Bacalar. We were pleasantly surprised to find so many authentic Mexican restaurants in Bacalar!

We hope this beautiful place stays this way! If interested on how to explore Bacalar and all the things to do in Bacalar with costs, links and reviews checkout this post:

Thanks so much for being here. We don't take your time for granted. If you have any questions please let us know! We are always happy to help :)

The Road to Bacalar Mexico(The lagoon of 7 colours)

Bacalar has to easily be my favourite place that I visited during my month in Mexico. We didn't really hear too much about Bacalar until we had heard a few people talking about it. The lagoon of seven colours is what is was known for. It sounded spectacular and after doing some research we knew we had to go check it out!

We really didn't regret with this decision as Bacalar is still one of the only untouched paradises left in Quintana Roo. There are so many things to do while visiting this hidden gem.

So in this video I will take you through going from Cozumel, all the way to Bacalar. Where we explore some of the most popular things to do in the area like exploring the lagoon, and the ever spectacular Los rapidos. Let me tell you this place really lived up to it's name as the Lagoon of 7 colours.
