New Bongaigaon Junction is a major railway junction type of station on the New Jalpaiguri–New Bongaigaon section and New Bongaigaon–Guwahati section of Barauni–Guwahati line, and New Bongaigaon–Jogihopa–Kamakhya line in Bongaigaon of Northeast Frontier Railway in Assam. This is the 2nd biggest railway station with wagon and carriage workshop in north east India after Guwahati railway station. It serves people from surrounding areas like Barpeta, Barpeta Road, Abhayapuri, Basugaon, Chirang district and others.

NTPC at Bongaigaon, Assam (Salakati, Kokrajhar)
National Thermal Power Station in kokrajhar is under construction power project located at Salakati near Kokrajhar in Kokrajhar district in Indian state of Assam. The power plant is one of the coal based power plants of NTPC. The coal for the plant will be derived from Makum coal mines at Margherita, Assam and also from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL).
Kokrajhar Thermal Power Station was the biggest plant situated at Salakati in the district of Kokrajhar in Assam. It consisted of four coal-fired units of 60 MW each.
Major equipment like boiler, turbine, auxiliaries like BFP, CEP, PA fans, bowl mills etc. were supplied by BHEL. In coal handling plant, major equipment like primary and secondary crusher were supplied by TRF and wagon tippler was supplied by Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC).

This train has replaced the 55805/55806 New Bongaigaon - Guwahati - New Bongaigaon CHILARAI PASSENGER (via. Goalpara Town).
The trial run of the first DEMU on this route was done on 6th April, 2017 between New Bongaigaon and Chaparmukh Jn, please do watch that awesome video:
This is a 1600hp X 2; AC-AC (IGBT) type DEMU.
This 10 coach DEMU is powered by two 1600hp Driving Power Cars (DPC) at each end. Each Driving Power Car (DPC) is equipped with a 1600hp Cummins or Caterpillar engine. Moreover, the DEMU coaches are made of Stainless Steel similar to the LHB shells.
The DEMU rake belongs to NFR and is manufactured by Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.
