Exploring Mumbai in One Day - Best Sights in Bombay

We had an awesome day in Mumbai taking in the sights of the city that was previously named Bombay! Mumbai was quite different than other cities we have visited in India so far, mostly because the city is right on the coast. During our one day of exploring Mumbai, we visited the Gateway of India (and almost got robbed), had a coffee inside the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, visited Chowpatty Beach at sunset, tried vada pav for the first time, and got to see the CST train station (chhatrapati shivaji terminus) lit up at night! Oh yeah, and when we arrived in Mumbai we took the local Mumbai train. That was WILD!

If you are visiting Mumbai and are wondering what to do with one day in Bombay, feel free to follow our itinerary! If you are a foreigner visiting India for the first time like we are, be sure to schedule in lots of breaks during your day exploring Mumbai because not only is it very hot, but it's very busy! People at the Gateway to India can be very excited to take pictures with foreigners visiting India, and if you're like us, this can result in a weary traveler! Going for a coffee inside the Taj Mahal Palace hotel (just across the street from the Gateway of India) is a great way to take a peaceful, air conditioned break after your visit to the harbor.

We hope this Bombay travel vlog is both helpful and entertaining! If you haven't already seen it, we also spent Diwali in Mumbai and made a video about it that you should check out!

Tips for Traveling in India + Sightseeing in New Delhi

Today we are exploring more of New Delhi, and as we do we want to share with you many of the travel tips we have for traveling in India. We have been in the country for two weeks now, and have picked up many tips for traveling in India along the way! In today's New Delhi travel vlog we are exploring more of Delhi, including the lotus temple in New Delhi, shopping in Lajpat Nagar market, trying Indian street food (kachori and veg biriyani), and we also give you a tour of our New Delhi airbnb!

We have been really surprised by how much we enjoy sightseeing in Delhi! Before we arrived, quite a few people told us we should probably leave Delhi as quickly as possible to explore other parts of India, but we have truly enjoyed seeing this city over the past two weeks. Delhi has so many places for tourists to visit, and it's world class metro system makes it easy and affordable to explore this huge city.

Delhi is a very busy city though, so we have had to put all our travel skills to use here. After 1.5 years of full-time travel, we have learned quite a lot about how to stay safe and have a great time in a new country, and we hope you find these tips for traveling India helpful if you are planning your own visit to India! This video will also give you a good idea of what to do in New Delhi (in English) but if you want an even better look at things to do in Delhi, we would suggest checking out our first India vlog which shows lots of Delhi's top tourist attractions (and some off the beaten path ones as well):

First Impressions of India - Comparing Old and New Delhi // India Travel Vlog

We made it to India!! Come with us as we explore Old and New Delhi during as we develop our first impressions of India. In this video we really wanted to show the multiple faces of Delhi; a city most commonly known to the Western World as a place of noise, dirt, and poverty. And while that can all be found here, New Delhi and Cyber City showed us that the opposite things can be found here too: quiet, cleanliness, and wealth. There is so much to discover in Delhi!

If you are visiting Delhi soon or this is your first time in Delhi as well, then this video will also help you plan your time in this giant city! To really develop our first impressions of India, we wanted to explore as much of Delhi as we could (without overloading this vlog too much!). Over the course of a couple days (thanks rain), we were able to see India Gate, Delhi's Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid Mosque, Connaught Place, Cyber City and Cyber Hub (which are just outside of Delhi in an area called Gurugram), and of course we rode the top-notch Delhi Metro!

Delhi is a huge city, and the two areas we were primarily in for this video are called Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi is the oldest part of the city and was originally built during the Moghuls. There are incredible pieces of history in Old Delhi and the infamous Chandni Chowk is here. Chandni Chowk is an area well known for being home to many, many shops and residences packed tightly together. Because it was built before cars were invented, the roads are more like small alleyways. There is never a dull moment here! New Delhi was designed by the British during colonial times and tends to attract high-end restaurants, hotels, and shops.

It is very common for travelers to make Delhi the first stop on their visit to India because it is part of the Golden Triangle in India. The Golden Triangle is made up of Delhi, Agra (where the Taj Mahal is), and Jaipur (commonly called the Pink City). For tourists who are short on time, visiting the three cities in the Golden Triangle is a great way to get a small peak into what India is like! Like so many others, Delhi was our first stop in this new country and was a great place to make our first impressions of India!

India Travel Tips | Things You Should Know Before Visiting India

What are some things that you should know before visiting India? How expensive is India? In our India travel tips guide currency tips, transportation, hotels, safety, food and health. We share what we loved about India in terms of travel along with what we hated about India on our trip. Now let's explore travel in India in depth!

Official Exchange Rate = $1 USD = 64.14 Indian Rupee (current as of May, 2017)

Transportation in India (City to city)

1) We highly recommend train travel in India over taking the bus
2) Book your train tickets in advance online (we used cleartrip.com)
3) If you don't book tickets in advance check at major train stations to see if they have tickets reserved for foreign travelers under the tourist quota.

Local transportation

1) If you're traveling at a budget or mid-range level you'll definitely be taking your share of taxis, auto-rickshaws and man-powered rickshaws.
2) Try to know what a ride should cost in advance by researching, asking at your hotel or asking a local
3) Be prepared to bargain as rickshaw drivers often try to rip tourists off

Accommodations in India

1) Hostel in India - can start as low as $2 to 3 USD and upwards
2) 3 star Hotel in India - ($20 to $40 USD)
3) 4 or 5 star Hotel in India - (sky is the limit)

We tried to book our hotels around areas of the city we'd be exploring by day and night. Staying on the outskirts means much longer local transportation time.

Health in India

1) Make sure to get all of your recommend shots and vaccinations before going to India. Check online or with your doctor to find out what you need to get specifically
2) Carry hand-sanitizer and wet wipes to clean your hands and dirty objects you may encounter like filthy door handles
3) Drink only bottled water
4) Have Imodium handy in case you get sick to your stomach

Safety in India

1) Dress modestly (especially if you're a female)
2) Don't arrive late at night in train stations
3) Safety in numbers if you're a female traveler

General Travel Tips for India

1) Don't try to do too much or have too fast of a schedule (slow versus fast travel)
2) Pick a particular region and don't try to cover all of India
3) Mix up smaller cities with bigger cities on your itinerary in India

What to eat in India

1) Research restaurants online on sites like tripadvisor or food vlogs
2) Only eat street food or at restaurants that are busy with locals
3) Ask hotel staff or locals you encounter for recommendations

Budget meals in India can be had for roughly $2 to $5 in USD per person and fine dining get really expensive.

Things we LOVED about India(I love India)

1) Incredible train rides
2) Amazing attractions
3) Diversity of regions in India (how different they are)
4) Beautiful temples, mosques and architecture
5) Great value in terms of what you spend for what you get
6) The sense of adventure not knowing what will happen

Things we HATED about India (I hate India)

1) Getting sick and having stomach issues
2) Getting hassled by aggressive touts, rickshaw drivers and vendors
3) Often not arriving on time or as scheduled

Final Thoughts

India is one of the most adventurous countries we've ever visited as travelers. We loved our time there but it can be a polarizing place. Most people love it or hate.

India Travel Tips | Things You Should Know Before Visiting India Travel Video Transcript:

We've been back in Canada for a while now. And we've been editing all of the video footage we've shot in India and now that we're done with that we thought we should share a few travel tips for India and just maybe talk a little bit more about our experiences. So that is what our video is going to be like. We're going to be doing also kind of like a budget breakdown so if you see us staring down at our computers that is what we're doing. Yeah exactly and this will be a little bit different than the city guide tips we did because we're doing this kind for all of India as a country.

This is part of our Travel in India video series showcasing Indian food, Indian culture and Indian cuisine.

The Ruins of Hampi, Karnataka, India [Amazing Places 4K]

Hampi is one of the most impressive sites to visit in India. Inscribed as UNESCO Heritage site (quote from unesco.org): The austere, grandiose site of Hampi was the last capital of the last great Hindu Kingdom of Vijayanagar. Its fabulously rich princes built Dravidian temples and palaces which won the admiration of travelers between the 14th and 16th centuries.

Recorded February 2016 in 4K (Ultra HD) with Sony AX100.

Music:
“The Higher Mind” from the album Embrace The Moment, an album of instrumental yoga and relaxation music.
Composed by Jai and Herrin Larkan. Flutes by Chris Lane.

Visiting South Goa, India - SO Different Than the Rest of India!

After traveling to six different cities in India, we finally made it to South Goa for some beach time! We have heard from so many people that Goa is the best place to go in India if you want to relax, and after visiting so many busy Indian cities we are definitely in need of some relaxation and time away from the crowds!

South Goa was the perfect place for us to enjoy the beautiful beaches and laid back vibe that we have been yearning for. In this video we rent a scooter (which is locally referred to as a scooty) and spend the day driving around South Goa going from Majorda Beach to Cola Beach to Butterfly Beach for sunset. If you are wondering what to do for 1 day in Goa, we highly recommend this routing! We got to spend lots of time on the scooter enjoying the scenery while also visiting some of South Goa's best beaches!

If you are visiting India for the first time, we HIGHLY recommend scheduling a visit to South Goa into your itinerary. India is hectic, like, REALLY hectic, and this is even more true for foreigners because visitors are very often approached by locals who are interested in foreigners. It's all part of the India experience, but it can be quite tiring after a while. South Goa offers some reprieve from the fast-paced city life that can be found in Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, Agra, and so many other Indian cities that millions of people call home.

If you are looking for more of a party scene, we hear North Goa is the place to be! We were told by lots of local Indians that North Goa is a great place to meet people and find big beach parties, but if you're looking for a slower pace with great beaches, then South Goa is for you!

Visiting India's Holiest City (Varanasi Travel Vlog)

Varanasi, India is a place we have wanted to visit for as long as we can remember. We have seen many pictures and videos of Indians and foreigners visiting Varanasi, and we were drawn into the colours, customs, rituals, and significance of this place. Although we do not belong to any of the religions that find meaning at the Ganges River, we have always wanted to travel to Varanasi and learn about the importance of this area.

Although we did not bathe in the Ganges River ourselves, watching people dip themselves in the River and cleanse themselves with rituals that we had never seen before was such a great experience. It is easy to feel the importance of Varanasi for those who believe in the purification of the Ganges River and the privilege of being cremated at it's banks. We are so grateful that we were able to visit India's holiest city and witness people partake in rituals that hold such importance for them.

For foreigners visiting Varanasi, our advice would be to come prepared to learn, and give yourself enough time to take Varanasi slowly. For our first time in Varanasi, we found that we needed to take breaks from the crowds and busy streets to allow ourselves the space and time to really take in what we were experiencing. The ghats are definitely the best place to spend time sitting, watching, and learning, and we would highly recommend Dashashwamedh Ghat and Assi Ghat. Of course, seeing the famous Aarti performed at the Assi Ghat is a must do during your time in Varanasi.

We hope you are able to get a feel for what it's like to visit Varanasi from this Varanasi travel vlog. We had such a great time exploring this city and ticking a sunrise boat ride along the Ganges River off our bucket list!

What to do With 1 Day in Jaipur

We only had one day to explore Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, so we were sure to make it count! Visiting Jaipur is one of the most common travel destination in India and it really is for good reason! There are a lot of things to do in this city so we had to carefully choose what we wanted to fit into our one day in Jaipur.

Our first stop in this travel vlog is the famous Amber Fort (or Amer Fort), which we learned was a palace for previous Maharaja and is a beautiful place to spend a couple of hours. Not only is the architecture at Amber Fort stunning, but the accessibility to so much of the fort makes it a really fun place to explore.

The next place we visited in Jaipur was a famous photo spot called the Panna Meena ka Kund Stepwell, and man is it stunning! It's so photogenic, even if the water colour is a little iffy :p

After a quick look at Jal Mahal (which makes for a nice quick pit stop), we visited the most anticipated tourist attraction of the day; Hawa Mahal! The incredible Wind Palace is everything we imagined it to be, although we didn't anticipate just how loud it is! The street in front of Hawa Mahal is very busy, and when you add all the tourists and shop keepers into the mix, it can quickly become overwhelming. We loved seeing Hawa Mahal and could have stayed for hours taking various photos and videos; it really is an amazing structure and is Jaipur's number 1 tourist attraction for good reason!

Last but not least, we toured around the City Palace to see how the modern day Royalty live. Surprisingly, this is actually the stop that we would suggest you skip if you're short on time in Jaipur. Unless you pay extra for entry into special rooms, the palace itself doesn't offer visitors as much to see or do as we expected. If you only have one day in Jaipur like we did, maybe skip a visit to the City Palace and check out another fort or explore the Rajasthani cuisine a bit more!

If you are headed to Jaipur soon and need an awesome tuktuk driver, we highly recommend reaching out to Dinesh to see if he's available :) He can be reached by What'sApp at +91-9314870222 or email at dineshdhap@yahoo.com

We hope this video helps you plan your visit to Jaipur, especially if you only have one day in the Pink City!

10 Best Cities To Visit in 2020 | THE TOURIST

Here's your new year vacation guide, this video features the top 10 best cities to visit around the world in 2020, according to Lonely Planet.

This top 10 travel list, is a happy mix of well-known spots and hidden gems: popular cities already getting attention for their attractions and events; lesser known towns worthy of your attention or a second look; and wonderful places to visit that need our help.

Here's a look at the Top 10 best cities to visit in 2020. By the travel site Lonely Planet.

10. Denver, USA
Denver’s elevated position as one of the USA’s most charming boomtowns has reached new heights as the Mile High City enters its latest phase of growth, creative energy and damn good food.
Denver is rising. It's one of the fastest growing cities in the US. It's got beautiful weather and beautiful people, good restaurants, even better bars, and a pretty lively arts and music scene.

9. Dubai, UAE
Dubai is a stirring alchemy of profound traditions and ambitious futuristic vision wrapped into starkly evocative desert splendour. The future is now in Dubai as the superlative-craving emirate launches several boundary-pushing marquee projects in 2020.

8. Vancouver, Canada
Explorable neighborhoods, drink-and-dine delights and memorable cultural and outdoor activities framed by striking natural vistas – there's a superfluity of reasons to fall for this ocean-fringed metropolis.

This natural playground – squeezed majestically between the blue waters of the Pacific and the forest-clad mountaintops of the North Shore 7. Kochi, India

Set on a magnificent estuary, serene Kochi has been drawing traders, explorers and travellers to its shores for over 600 years. It’s a delightful place to explore, laze in arty cafes and relax at some of India’s finest homestays and heritage hotels.

6. La Paz, Bolivia
A mad carnival of jostling pedestrians, honking, diesel-spewing minivans, street marches, and cavalcades of vendors, La Paz surrounds you: you'll love it, you'll hate it, but you can't ignore it. Standing hotels are remodeled at a manic pace, and new boutique hotels are springing up like rows of altiplano corn.

5. Bonn, Germany
It has a healthy economy and lively urban vibe. For visitors, the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven has plenty of note, not least the great composer’s birth house, a string of top-rated museums, a lovely riverside setting and the nostalgic feel of the old government quarter.

4. Galway, Ireland
Brilliantly bohemian Galway is arguably Ireland’s most engaging city. Here brightly painted pubs heave with live music and cafes offer front-row seats to watch buskers perform. Expect street spectacle, live and digital art as well as world-class music, theatre and dance.

3. Cairo, Egypt
Cairo is chaos at its most magnificent, infuriating and beautiful. Head here to marvel at a mind-boggling collection in what will be the world’s largest museum entirely committed to one civilisation.

2. Washington DC, USA
The USA’s capital teems with iconic monuments, vast museums and the corridors of power where politicos roam. Washington is the showcase of American arts, home to such prestigious venues as the National Theatre, the Kennedy Center and the Folger Theatre. As a visitor, there’s a thrill in seeing the action up close – to walk inside the White House, to sit in the Capitol chamber, and to drink in a bar alongside congresspeople.

1. Salzburg, Austria
Beyond Salzburg’s two biggest money-spinners – Mozart and The Sound of Music – hides a city with a burgeoning arts scene, wonderful food, manicured parks, quiet side streets where classical music wafts from open windows, and concert halls that uphold musical tradition 365 days a year. Everywhere you go, the scenery, the skyline, the music and the history send your spirits soaring higher than Julie Andrews' octave-leaping vocals.

Which cities are in your bucket list? Comment them in a comment section below.

Gangtok is located at an altitude of 5,410 ft in East-Sikkim. Distance from NJP (the nearest major railway station) is 126kms, from Bagdogra airport 124kms (takes 4.5 hours from both), from Siliguri 114kms and from Darjeeling 98kms (4 hours). Private and shared taxi services are available in plenty between Gangtok and these places. There is also bus service from Siliguri SNT bus stand and helicopter service from Bagdogra airport to Gangtok. The name Gangtok means the 'Top of the Ridge'
Between 1894 to 1975 it was part of the Namgyal kingdom and a center of Royal administration. After that Sikkim became a state of India and Gangtok became the Capital of Sikkim.

Over the years Gangtok has experienced booming economy and advancement of lifestyle. However it has remained as a peaceful place with a mix of different cultures & ethnicity. Gangtok spreads over a forested mountain that faces the Kanchenjunga snow peaks. There are many vantage points in and around Gangtok from where you get magnificent views of Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan snow peaks. In fact every spur extending from this hill town offers a setting of a great sight.
The heart or the main hub of Gangtok town is M.G. Marg (i.e. Mahatma Gandhi Road), which has been converted into something like a long stretch of open promenade and a mall area. It's a pedestrian only zone and vehicles are not allowed here. This litter & smoke free zone has many glittering shops, restaurants & bars lined up on both sides.

There are benches laid out along the middle and both sides of the road (MG Marg) where you can relax and see the pedestrians passing by or tourists shopping around. When the natural light fades, the beautiful Victorian lamps on the street are lit up. It's a great place to hang around for a while and experience the bustling carnival like atmosphere.
