Switzerland is a mountainous Central European country, home to numerous lakes, villages and the high peaks of the Alps. Its cities contain medieval quarters, with landmarks like capital Bern’s Zytglogge clock tower and Lucerne’s wooden chapel bridge. The country is also known for its ski resorts and hiking trails.

Places in these video:

1.Interlaken :Interlaken is a traditional resort town in the mountainous Bernese Oberland region of central Switzerland. Built on a narrow stretch of valley, between the emerald-colored waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, it has old timber houses and parkland on either side of the Aare River. Its surrounding mountains, with dense forests, alpine meadows and glaciers, has numerous hiking and skiing trails.

2. Lauterbrunnen: Lauterbrunnen is a municipality in the Swiss Alps. It encompasses the village of Lauterbrunnen, set in a valley featuring rocky cliffs and the roaring, 300m-high Staubbach Falls. A cable car runs from Stechelberg village to Schilthorn mountain, for views over the Bernese Alps

3. Lucerne: Lucerne, a compact city in Switzerland known for its preserved medieval architecture, sits amid snowcapped mountains on Lake Lucerne. Its colorful Altstadt (Old Town) is bordered on the north by 870m Museggmauer (Musegg Wall), a 14-century rampart. ???? Nice and short cab ride round trip (Switzerland | Thurbo S41 Bülach - Winterthur - Bülach)

Welcome to this short branch line, usually known as Dettenberg-Line, named after the 1.8km long tunnel that we'll see right after the start. It is a direct connection from Winterthur to the northwest, once even used for direct trains Winterthur - Basel. Nowadays there are no long-distrance trains anymore, but it is still frequently used by freight trains and the commuter train that we're in. It's a shorter trip this time, so we made it a round trip. Sit back and enjoy both directions of this short but interesting and beautiful route through the countryside!

BÄCHTELEN BÜLACH 2019 SCHWEIZ

BAECHTELEN / Bächtelen in Bülach
On the 2nd day of 2019, the municipality of Bülach celebrates this public holiday with hot wine and a parade of cow bells. Oh yeah, the Swiss love their cows very much.

Located in Buelach, Switzerland Canton Zurich Zuerich

After living in Switzerland for one year. 3 things I like and 2 I do not.

Unfortunately the contest is now over.????
Berdie Powell takes home the Bug A Salt!
Thank you all for entering!

There are a lot of things to love about living in Switzerlandut there are also a lot of things that are not so great. so today we are talking about three things that I love about Switzerland and two that I do not. Wait I forgot. Today we are also giving away this Bug a Salt gun. Number one. The outdoors. Switzerland is the most beautiful place that I have ever been to. the way the mountains look with the lakes and everything. It is just so pretty. Pictures do not do this place justice. But fortunately, you don't just have to look at pictures in Switzerland there are so many ways to get outdoors. There is hiking there is biking there is rockclimbing everywhere. There are these via ferratas that go up the rock faces also if you are not quite into rock climbing, you can go paragliding. If you name it Switzerland has got it. If you are not into this whole exercising thing you can go on these trams that go up the mountain. or these cable cars or the faries that go on the lakes. There is no reason that you cannot get outdoors in Switzerland it is amazing. If you live in Switzerland and you are not getting outside you are making a bad life decision. Why would you even live in Switzerland if you are not getting outside? that is the number one reason to live in Switzerland. It is so amazing. Switzerland is old. There are a lot of old buildings there are a lot of old towns and old roads, and really old history. If you are from Europe then this is just normal but I am From the USA. And in the US if you just go back a few hundred years history descends into a mystery. We don't really know what was going on in the USA 1000 years ago. History is one of my favorite parts about living in Switzerland. If you are visiting a castle or something it is crazy to think about all of the people that came before you that put in that work to build these structures. We don't remember most of their names. It is kind of humbling to think about.  Number 3. Switzerland is a tinny little country that is l

Top 7 CHRISTMAS MARKETS of Switzerland

From late November till December, Switzerland hosts plenty of fantastic Christmas markets. The tradition of Christmas roots very deeply in the Swiss culture. However, among all these many markets around in Zürich, Basel, Einsiedeln, Stein am Rhein, Lucerne, Montreux, Bern, etc.: Which ones are the most beautiful Christmas markets of Switzerland? Watch the video and get to meet the Top 7 Christmas Markets of Switzerland! Bern – The Stärnemärit at the Kleine Schanze is quite an experience. Visit the one of the most illuminated Christmas markets of Switzerland. At the Stärnemärit, you will have plenty of stars that decorate the market, this place is very family friendly and also perfect for foodie enthusiasts. Bülach – the secret favorite! Bülach is a town that is mainly known about Swiss people, but certainly not for cultural or tourism purpose. Bülach hosts one of the most beautiful Christmas markets of Switzerland and offers the probably best cultural performance with the Santa parade. Lugano – The a bit different Christmas market. In Lugano, Italy is near and this also shows at the Christmas market. If you want to have a different experience after visiting Christmas markets in the Swissgerman and -french part, then Lugano is certainly the right place. The old city is beautifully decorated with plenty of lights. The market hosts numerous artisan stalls and overall feels very traditional and authentic. Stein am Rhein - The fairytale town. The Märlistadt is more than just Christmas! In here, families and kids can experience fairytale performances in a very Christmassy atmosphere. The opening usually on December 1st and that starts with a march of Trychler, men wearing heavy bells. There will be a medieval Christmas market, plenty of lighting decorations, singing and great foodie stalls. Blausee – Christmas celebrated in nature. TAKE NOTE: The Christmas market is not held on a yearly basis! The Christmas market at the Blausee is a very unique one. It is for once not inside a village or city but out in the nature around one of the most beautiful lakes of Switzerland. The market is called Winterzauber am Blausee, which really matches the feeling. When there is a lot of snow, the Christmas market feels very enchanting and cozy. This was one of the most unique Christmas moments I ever had in Switzerland. Basel - The most traditional Christmas Market. Basel’s Christmas markets have the most beautiful stalls in all of Switzerland. It was even once voted the most beautiful Christmas market in all of Europe! What more to say? Take at least 2-3 hours and explore all of the market, enjoy seeing the many decorated stalls with all the unique artisan products. Bremgarten: The never-ending market. This market is the largest market of Switzerland. It is often very crowded while being endless. The market is throughout the entire old city, in front of the school and across the river. It certainly will take you at least 2 to 3 hours to explore this market.

Where to find the markets?
Lugano: Old city,
Bülach: City centre at the cityhall,
Bern: Kleine Schanze
Basel: Basler Münster (Basel Minster), Barfüesserplatz,
Blausee: All around the lake
Stein am Rhein: Old Town
Bremgarten: Old town and across the wooden bridge

Mystic medieval castle ruins Freienstein near Bülach & Embrach | Canton Zurich, Switzerland 2023

The ruins of Freienstein Castle, also called Alten-Teufen Castle, is the ruin of a hilltop castle at 460 meters above sea level in the municipality of Freienstein-Teufen in the canton of Zurich on a hill above a vineyard.
The castle was built around 1250 by a baron of Tengen. In 1254 Conrad de Tengen gave it to his daughter Ita and her husband, Baron Egolf von Hasle (also Egilolf de Hasli). In this context the castle is mentioned in documents for the first time. Egolf and his descendants now called themselves Barons of Freienstein. Thus the village also received the name Freienstein. The hazel branch in the (new) coat of arms refers to the descent of the barons of Hasli, the lion probably goes back to the Kyburg lion.
In 1302 Egolf sold the Meierhof Freienstein to the monastery of Töss with the consent of his sons Heinrich and Johannes. This Heinrich was married to Nertha von Tüfen, in 1282 he was land judge in the Zürichgau and died after 1314.
In 1334 or 1338 the castle was apparently destroyed by citizens of Zurich, but was rebuilt afterwards. In 1360, with Johannes von Freienstein, the Freienstein family died out in the male line. After that, the castle changed hands several times. In 1436 the knight Herrmann Künsch from Schaffhausen was the owner of the castle. Since he had captured a man from the county of Kyburgern in 1443, Winterthur and Diessenofer under the bailiff and later mayor of Zurich Heinrich Schwend marched in front of the castle and burned it down. The prisoner was forgotten in his dungeon and suffocated in the smoke.
In 1485 knight Felix Schwarzmurer acquired the castle. After his death in 1492 the ruins came to Hans Erhart and Urban zum Thor von Teufen. In 1600, the jurisdiction and lordship of Teufen came to the Zurich von Meiss family, in whose possession it remained until it was sold in 1838. The last owner was Lieutenant Colonel Gottfried von Meiss-Trachsler (1785-1862). In 1975, the von Meiss-Trachsler community of heirs donated the ruin to the Canton of Zurich. Thanks to a donation by Franz Xaver Arnet, a friend of the castle, and contributions from the federal government, the canton and the municipality, the ruin was conserved in 1976 and placed under the protection of the Swiss Confederation.
In 1806, a large part of the castle stones were quarried and used to build the Töss Bridge.
The sod well west of the tower was discovered in 1968. In 1981/82 it was completely excavated. From the bottom of the castle moat, the builders had driven a shaft of 2.30 by 2.40 meters side length and 26.40 meters depth into the molasse rock. Tufa blocks at depths of 10 and 15 meters show that the shaft was walled up to the level of the base of the tower. The total depth of the well is 33.5 meters.
The legend about the end of the castle
One winter day, the beautiful daughter of a free man from Embrach, a respected and influential man, went to visit some acquaintances. While doing so, she forgot the time, and she could not start her return until after nightfall. She had to march through the dark forest and suddenly she realized with horror that she was being pursued by a hungry wolf. However, she was able to get to safety in the Kymenhof. After a young lad there offered to accompany her home, the two fell in love and promised to be faithful to each other. At that time, the robber baron of Freienstein also knew about the beauty of the girl. He wanted to have the girl in his castle, but got a refusal every time. One day, when the girl was alone in the forest looking for firewood, the robber baron came and wanted to persuade her again to come with him to the castle. She refused and the knight put her on his horse and took her to his castle where she had to submit to his will. Her father tried to free his daughter with a clever trick - he let himself be hired by the robber baron as a Swabian falconer - and he succeeded. But he himself was discovered by the knight and thrown into the dungeon. The daughter immediately alerted her father's most influential friends in Kyburg Castle. The Landgrave of Kyburg immediately went to the castle of Freienstein with a troop of heavily armed warriors to free her father. After a siege, the castle tower was set on fire and the fortress was taken.
