Beaches of the Costa Vicentina, Algarve west coast
When you think of a beach or seaside holiday in the Algarve, you immediately see in your mind the picturesque bays with their typical rock formations, caves and grottos, which are visited by masses of people in the summer months.
However, those who prefer deserted beaches and wild nature to the crowded beaches of the western Algarve will find a wonderfully beautiful natural paradise with natural beaches and magnificent dunes in the south-west of the Algarve in the nature reserve of Costa Vicentina.The barren and rough coastal landscape between Sagres and Odeceixe, especially, is dotted with steep cliffs and headlands, from which one can get an incomparable view down into bays and across endless sandy beaches. Often, the narrow paths from the main roads to the beaches meander endlessly through the countryside towards the sea, until they suddenly provide you with views of a beautiful coast.
Between Carrapateira and Aljezur lies the small fishing village of Arrifana with its beautiful beach, Praia do Arrifana, which is situated in a shell-shaped bay. The beach is narrow, no more than 700 metres, and is protected by imposing black slate rocks. From the northern tip of the beach, you have a panoramic view of the ruins of the fortress of Arrifana..
At the northern end of the beach, next to the fishing port, there are good conditions for diving. The beach is also popular with surfers and bodyboarders.However, the Praia do Arrifana is classified as a beach with limited use, because due to the high rock walls at the back there is danger of falling rocks.

Luring in travelers from around the world, there are certain countries that are known for their collection of picturesque towns. In this video, I am going to present one of the beautiful seaside towns called Azenhas do Mar, Azenhas do Mar is a seaside town in the municipality of Sintra, Portugal. It is part of Colares civil parish.
Azenhas do Mar means Watermills of the Sea and the name derives from a once-powerful stream that moved the watermills as it made its way to the sea. The Mediterranean-looking village is a literal cliffhanger, with white houses tumbling down to the Atlantic, creating a picturesque scenery that inspired painters and graced postcards in the mid-20th century.
At that time, wealthy families from Lisbon and Sintra also decided that the stunning location was perfect for their summer homes, which you’ll see outside the main cluster of houses. Some of them were even designed by Portugal’s leading architects, who attempted to create an authentic “Portuguese Style,” which included the traditional blue-and-white tile panels on the façades. Most of the houses, however, were originally the homes of a fishing community, built close together at the top of the cliff, creating a maze of streets and patios overlooking the coast. Steps at the bottom of the cliff lead down to a small approximately 30-meter wide beach, faced by a popular restaurant. How much space you have to spread your towel depends on the tides (at high tide the beach often disappears), and there’s also a platform meant to trap the seawater and create a pool.

It is located 3km away from Praia das Maçãs beach and 14km away from Sintra historical centre.

Azenhas do Mar is one of the most beautiful pearls of the Portuguese coast, and an indispensable stop on any tour of Portugal. Literally embedded in the cliffs of the coast, this small coastal town looks like a village out of some fairy tale.
Azenhas do Mar means “Watermills of the Sea,” and the name derives from a once-powerful stream that moved the watermills as it made its way to the sea.
In addition to the beautiful landscapes, visitors can also walk along the cliffs and wander through the narrow alleys of the village and appreciate the charming little houses, adorned with tiles, enclosed on the cliff of the coast. And of course don't forget to visit the watermill! After all, she is the one who gives the little village its name.
Azenhas do Mar was a vacation spot for King D. Carlos, his wife D. Amélia and mother D. Maria Pia. The village's main attraction is its wonderful ocean pool where all the picturesque houses converge.
This pool is in almost direct contact with the sea and the sea, from time to time, from wave to wave, rides the rock and cools the water that inside is heated by the rays of the sun.
The beach is small (and can be totally immersed during high tide), but it is usually pleasant because it is somehow sheltered from the wind by the cliffs. Everything here is picturesque and welcoming and one of the most famous restaurants in the region of Sintra - the Azenhas do Mar Restaurant - is also found here. Along with extraordinary views, it offers the best of the sea: fresh fish and seafood.

Tranquil Day Trip to Azenhas do Mar Portugal
Took a train ride to Azenhas do Mar, Portugal. It was truly a relaxing and enjoyable experience. I could watch the waves here for hours. If you go, I'd advise that you pack some food. The restaurants get full quickly. If you are the type of person that can picnic and sit by the waves for hours, you'll love it. I sure did.

EL PUEBLO COSTERO MAS BONITO DE SINTRA (PORTUGAL) - AZENHAS DO MAR - 4K HD
Decidimos pasar unos días en Portugal, pensamos que un buen lugar podría ser Praia das Maças, en Sintra. Nos alojamos en una antigua casa colonial llamada Casal Santa Virginia, situada al lado de un enorme acantilado entre Praia das Maças y Azenhas do Mar. A nuestra llegada llovía y había una niebla densa, paseamos hasta Azenhas do Mar y el sol comenzó a brillar. Llegamos al precioso pueblo costero, desde su mirador espectacular pudimos ver sus características casitas blancas al borde de un acantilado y una piscina natural de agua salada a sus pies. Aprovechamos para comer en uno de sus famosos restaurantes ”Agua e Sal” y degustamos el típico queso portugués, su irresistible bacalao, unas gambitas y todo acompañado de una buena Sagres. Después de mojarnos hasta las rodillas de agua salada, nos dirigimos para ver el fantástico atardecer de Praia das Maças.
Días después visitamos Quinta da Regaleira y Lisboa, pero ese vídeo lo dejamos para más adelante.

Azenhas do Mar is known for its traditional layered houses, close together on top of a cliff, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, in the west coast of Portugal. On this late March afternoon, the sun was occasionally shining through a thick cloak of clouds - Portugal had been affected by dust winds blowing from North Africa, resulting in some very interesting colours during sunset. The perfect conditions for this winter walk. We start outside the village of Azenhas do Mar, and go down its narrow streets, enjoying beautiful vistas over the Atlantic Ocean. As this was recorded during lockdown, there was practically no one around - and this is a very intense touristic area, especially during summer. I take you to a stunning viewing point over the ocean, and wander through the villages streets. We end our walk at the beach, enjoying nice ocean and river sounds, and a gorgeous sunset through the unusual deep fiery clouds.
Sit back, relax and enjoy this 4K winter walk through one of Portugal's wonders, visiting this traditional deserted village, meeting dogs and cats along the way, and relaxing by the Atlantic Ocean, in a walk by the village beach.
As usual at Zen Walks, this was recorded in 3D audio, allowing for a spectacular ASMR soundscape, featuring sounds of footsteps, traffic, birds and wind. A perfect atmosphere for relaxation, study or even sleep. Use your headphones for a deep immersive experience ???? ????
