Azemmour (en arabe : أزمّور azammūr, en berbère : ⴰⵣⵎⵎⵓⵔ azemmur) est une petite ville située à 16 km au nord d'El Jadida et à 72 km au sud ouest de Casablanca, à l'embouchure du fleuve Oum Errabiaa.
Azemmour, qui veut dire l'olive en berbère, est sans doute établie sur l'antique cité d'Azama, occupée par les Phéniciens avant de tomber sous les mains des Carthaginois et des Romains. Sous ces derniers, Azemmour connut une période de prospérité. Le roi Juba II de Maurétanie favorisa à Azemmour la pêche à l'alose, poisson qui venait frayer dans l'Oum er Rbia.

Coasting in Morocco; Azemmour and the Riad Azama
One of the best off the beaten path destinations in Morocco is the town of Azemmour located along the Atlantic coast just north of El Jadida. It is a small town with few tourists that feels like the real Morocco. There is an exceptional riad here in which to make your base while visiting this overlooked yet charming town.
The Portuguese built the town tow miles inland along the Oum er Rbia river as a fortified trading post in 1513. The Portuguese also built the circuit of large ochre walls around the medina which was heavily damaged thanks to the massive Lisbon earthquake of 1755 that sent a tsunami upriver wiping out much of the town. Azemmour looks like it has been neglected and overlooked for a long time, however, the faded and crumbling aspect of the town are part of its appeal. There is a nearby beach as well as the very interesting city of El Jadida nearby.
Except for two riads there are no tourists restaurants or facilities. One of the riads, however, is reason enough to stay in Azemmour. The Riad Azama is an 18th century traditional home handsomely restored with 6 rooms located around a lovely court yard. This is one of the most beautiful Riads we have seen in Morocco.

The Art of the Wall in Azemmour Morocco
Every year, the city of Azemmour, Morocco, holds an Arts Festival in May. Artists gather to create artworks on the walls of the Medina which themselves provide glimmers of times past. There is year round opportunity to view these artworks for those unable to attend the festival. It's a friendly small city, well worth a day trip from Casablanca or a longer stay to enjoy this town off the beaten tourist track.

What are the best places to see in Morocco you may ask? well, I finally edited this video I filmed a while ago in El Jadida. This is one of the top destinations for moroccan and non-moroccan tourists. I highly suggest to visit this small city, discover its history and enjoy its beaches!
The city is a few Kilometres from Casablanca, so you can take the motorway and spend a day, or two, in this amazing city!

Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, El Jadida, Morocco - Best Travel Destination
This luxury hotel resort offers an outdoor swimming pool, casino and golf course. Mazagan Beach Resort is located a 20-minute drive from the town of El Jadida and is situated beside a 7 km beach. Each of the spacious guest rooms at the Mazagan Beach Resort are air-conditioned and have a contemporary design with Moroccan features. Some rooms have a view of the Atlantic Ocean. All rooms feature a private bathroom and are equipped with a minibar and a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. A buffet breakfast is served every morning at the Olive restaurant. The 8 restaurants and bars at the Beach Resort provide plenty of choice for dining including traditional Moroccan food, as well as international cuisine. أزمّور (بالفرنسية: Azemmour؛ من الأمازيغية أزِمـّور، وتعني الزيتون؛ بالپرتغالية: Azamor) هي مدينة مغربية تقع على ضفة نهر أم الربيع تبعد 15 كلم عن مدينة الجديدة و75 كلم جنوب شرقي الدار البيضاء تشتهر بشاطئها شاطئ الحوزية لركوب الأمواج.
تشتهر أزمور بطابعها المعماري المميز وشوارعها الضيقة ومنازلها القديمة وحكاياتها الأسطورية القديمة. ولذلك، فهي وجهة مفضلة للسياح الراغبين في التعرف على تاريخها وماضيها المجيد وخصوصيتها الاجتماعية والحضارية.
إنها مدينة ضاربة في عمق التاريخ، إلى حد أنه ليس هناك اجماع من قبل الباحثين والمؤرخين على تاريخ بنائها، فمنهم من يرجعه إلى فترة الفينيقيين او الرومان، ومنهم من يرجعه إلى البربر سكان المغرب الاوائل أبناء مازيغ الذين أتوا إلى البلاد من اليمن عن طريق الحبشة ومصر، مثلما يروي التاريخ الرسمي، ولو أن هذه الرواية محط تشكيك من طرف بعض الباحثين الأمازيغيين. كما أن ثمة اختلافا حول أصل اسم المدينة، وإن كان الكثيرون يرجحون اشتقاقه من كلمة آزما الأمازيغية التي تعني شجرة الزيتون البري (العاقر) والأرجح أن هذه الشجرة كانت موجودة في المنطقة.
ومما يدل على عراقة المدينة أنها كانت مرکز تجارة رومانية، وهناك بقايا أثار رومانية تشير إلى تلك المرحلة (برج، كهوف…) لكن هذه الآثار ما زالت بحاجة إلى الدراسة من قبل العلماء المختصين بالحفريات لاستجلاء أسرارها.
مع مجيء الفاتحين المسلمين بقيادة موسى بن نصير، اعتنق سكان أزمور الدين الحنيف، وصاروا من بين المدافعين عنه والحريصين على ترسيخ قيمه وأصوله وعلومه من خلال بناء المساجد والمؤسسات الدينية التي تم تزويدها بعدد من الفقهاء والعلماء.
